Allahpundit, please! You can say North Carolina, or South Carolina or the Carolinas. You certainly have a 1st Amendment right to refer to “Carolina,” but nobody in my part of the Carolinas will take you seriously if you do. Other folks are touchier. The dividing line between the states is not just a geographical marker!

I respectfully disagree, AP. Obama’s finished among the general electorate, and has been since the Speech That Saved America. The latest Wright Hook to the Jaw just makes it worse. To put it baldly, the number of non-blacks who would be willing to vote for Obama just dwindled past the point of irrelevance – we’re down to the same hardcore Dems that would vote for Hugo Chavez if he was the nominee, and you can’t win elections that way. The interesting question is, do the Democrat power brokers think Wright inflicted fatal damage on Obama? I suspect a good chunk of them do, and the opening moves in securing Obama’s voluntary resignation from the race are under way. If the power elite have concluded the guy is unelectable, they’ll find something short of a nasty floor fight at the convention to get rid of him. They need him out of the race before the convention, so it can be Hillary’s joyous coronation. Right now, a lot of sweaty guys in blue shirts and power ties are staring at internal polls and electoral maps that show the entire South as a solid red block, and places like California coming into play… and, like the Martians at the beginning of “War of the Worlds,” they are making grim and terrible decisions.

Slightly off topic, but the NCGOP must feel extremely vindicated today…McCain should come to NC…I fear hope he does very poorly in NC’s primary this coming Tuesday.

Agreed. She’ll be ruthless. And she is prepared to defeat McCain. What she didn’t expect was a challenge for the Democrat nomination from the man she hand-picked to be her VP. If she wins that battle, she’s ready to defeat McCain and take office as “President Rodham”.

But while she is prepared to defeat McCain, she is not prepared to beat Huckabee. She tried to stack the deck against Huckabee four times as he ran for office in Arkansas. He won all four times.

Nebraska could be a weather vane – it’s the kind of state Obama’s been cleaning up in among white voters. If he loses there, the magic may be gone.

Omaha has a fairly large black population and Ernie Chambers, who is a spittin’ image of Wright, except he is a legislator. Lincoln has the university, and there are a few smaller colleges scattered around. The third highest population center is Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoons in autumn. The rest is rural, Bible lovin’ and gun totin’. They like Ben Nelson and Mike Johanns. Bob Kerry, not so much. Hagel doesn’t dare venture out into the sandhills ranch country, we’ve still got some cowboys.

Hillary currently trails him in total delegates by around 140; if that margin holds, she’d have to win 220+ of the remaining 300 supers — 73 percent — to overtake him at the convention.

What’s to stop some of the superdelegates from changing their minds as it becomes/seems more clear that Obama is too damaged and weak in key states to win in the general? The question is a good one: the the supers care more about winning or fracturing the party? To me, if more come to the conclusion that Hillary has the better chance of winning, Barry will be tossed aside and offered the VP. A long shot for sure, but this relationship with Wright isn’t going away and I can’t see the supers sticking with a fatally wounded candidate.
