See today’s NY Times “fertilizer shortage” story by KEITH BRADSHER and ANDREW MARTIN. They report, on behalf of the fertilizer industry and the subsistence level VietCong peasant, that there just aren’t enough chemicals to go around unless we “build scores of new factories”. I found it interesting to note Bradsher-Martin’s claim that “Agriculture and development experts say the world has few alternatives to its growing dependence on fertilizer.” Agriculture and development experts! That’s right, university agriculture departments are now part of the School of Real Estate Development within the College of Engineering! Again, Bradsher-Martin’s source? “Jeffrey D. Sachs, the Columbia University economist who has focused on eradicating poverty.” So now an economist is the NY Times expert on agriculture and development who promotes unleashing the chemical industry to reproduce chemicals ASAP.

Bradsher-Martin failed to consult an agriculture professor to garner the full picture regarding crop production, relying instead on an economist as the expert on crop production as if the economist is the expert on the overall agricultural effects from total reliance on industrially produced chemical fertilizers, particularly when freely used by uneducated and illiterate peasants. That the economist’s research funding is provided by the chemical industry is also not mentioned. But heck, “That’s the difference between life and death.”

So, Her Majesty gets the nod, Fat Al retains his crown as number one hater, and the black backlash is somewhat diluted in Denver. Sounds reasonable.

So the race hustler capos got together and decided to feed Obama to the fishes? Verrry interesting. What a great Sat Night Live sketch THAT would be. The only problem for the capos is that they only control NY NJ and LA. The black community, even the wacky-lefty black community is very multi-valent, and they don’t by any means take orders from “the family.” Just one problem, though. They feed Obama to the fishes so that his natural constituencies can’t vote for him, but they sure can’t make them vote for Hillary. I think she loses a big part of the Obama vote, and McCain wins in a walk. What happens down the ticket matters as much as anything else.

My feeling is that the only way that this election can be good for Republicans win the General and we maintain the filibuster and do not allow the Dems to override the McCain’s’ veto. If the Repubs lose the General then they need to be able to at least maintain the filibuster to try and head off crazyness and do all they can to block SCOTUS appointments of the Ginsburg type till 2012. Repubs need to really focus on the Senate races and House races.

In fairness to Sharpton, his own anxiety on this point hasn’t stopped him from threatening the DNC on Obama’s behalf, but then he hasn’t spent six weeks watching Obama distance himself from him at every turn.

Come on Allah think about it, what would benefit Sharpton more than publically supporting Obama while working behind the scenes to kneecap him? You think if he and Wright succeeded in forcing the Democratic Party to dump Obama Sharpton wouldn’t still be leading those marches and protests? His visibility and fundraising would go sky high, not only that but what could he and the other race hustlers extort from the Democratic Party in order to keep the black vote in the fold? A Sharpton or NAACP coming out after the Supers deliver the nomination to Hillary would really do a lot to tamp down on the bitching from Obama who, seeing the writing on the wall and knowing he’s going to be feeding from the Sharpton/Conyers/Rangel trough for the rest of his career, might be brought to heel at considerable cost to the Dems. From the point of view of a race huslter like Sharpton the best case scenario is the Dems having to use the superdelegates to give the nomination to Hillary.

Obama tried for the “It was all a mischaracterization of Rev. Wright. He’s a nice guy. I won’t denounce him.” That didn’t sell. His internal polling and focus groups showed that the public was not buying the story since Obama had been a loyal church member for 20 years. Obama was losing ground. And it would hurt him in November!

Obama needed to find a “quick exit”. But how do you denounce Wright when you have already refused to do so????? Well, you need Wright to say something even more outrageous and then denounce that. As Obama’s loyal counselor, mentor and Pastor who presided over his wedding and the baptism of his children, Rev. Wright was willing. So Pastor Jeremiah came out of hiding (where he had passed up some honorary awards) and calls a series of press conferences and issues some more outrageous comments.

Quick like a rabbit, Obama denounces the “latest statements”. He then denounces Sharpton. Then Obama calls a press conference to “answer the questions about Rev. Wright”. Gee. Would would have guessed?!?!?!?!?!?!

Thi is such an obvious sham, it is hilarious that anyone is buying into it! Obama merely wants to dispose of the Rev. Wright issue by denouncing him. But he needed a new provocation in order to justify it. And Wright gave him the opening. And undoubtedly they planned it together!

Gingrich is the funny one in all of this. He is asking, “Is Rev. Wright trying to undermine Obama”? Of course not! the Pastor is doing Obama a favor. Its a coordinated kabuki dance. Obama gets to dispose of Wright six months before the election and then refuse to discuss it till after the election. Then who do you think will be holding the bible when he is sworn in?

Why are you all missing this? Obama has the nomination locked. This is the final move to prepare for the general election. Dump Wright. Dump Sharpton. Dump Jesse. Then they all meet after the election and toss back a few scotches and call for women and cigars! Big con job on America! How else could Obama unload the “Rev. Wright scandal” from around his neck? He had to have a premise! So he asked Wright to fall on his sword, and Jeremiah complied!. Anyone buying into this is simply blind!

Has there been some momentous 2-day surge in McCain’s poll numbers in the last 2 days? I know Republicans are freaking out about this, but is it translating to actual votes for McCain (or Clinton, for that matter)? Obama’s “bittergate” remarks hurt him more than Wright ever will. The Wright connection wasn’t even serious enough to warrant the obligatory -gate suffix. Obama, if nothing else, is a master politician. Think it was really a gaffe when admitted the Wright controversy as a legitimate campaign issue? Go ahead and take his invitation to the briar patch, I’m sure everything will work out fine.

The Wright scandal has already outlasted the short attention span of your typical American swing voter. Republicans can’t afford the perception that the Wright issue will be the main line of attack against Obama, lest they be accused of protesting too much.

The real scandal here is that Obama cynically manipulated race to build a political base in Chicago. That’s bad, but it’s not exactly Watergate. It’s the sort of political gamesmanship Americans have come to expect and accept, really. I know a few commenters here want McCain to hit harder on Wright, but seriously, be careful what you wish for…

I look at it as positive. Get this BLT thing out in the sunlight and examine it. I had never heard of James Cone before this came about. This is the best way to attack the hate industry.

Wright’s been the gravy-train of anti-Obama coverage and having such a high profile conservative admit that might eventually lead to this story drying up over the next few months.

Don’t think so. Newt has lost a lot of traction recently. Very few want to follow where he is trying to lead. Wright can’t help himself. He’ll milk this thing for all it’s worth, and he’s only got until November to make his mark.
