Wright: Obama criticized me in order to get elected

I gave him the benefit of the doubt last week when he danced around this question with Moyers. No more. Here’s his clarification, making it very clear that he meant just what his critics thought he meant, that one shouldn’t take the Messiah’s not-so-high dudgeon over his sermons too seriously since he’ll say whatever he needs to say to get elected.
Geraghty, among others, thinks he’s sinking Obama’s campaign. My pessimism makes me skeptical, but Ambinder argues that Wright has Team Barry boxed in: The nuttier he sounds, the fewer options they have except to hope that he eventually comes off as so nutty that no one would seriously think Obama agrees with him. Is a Sistah Souljah moment in the offing? If it is, it means The Speech That Saved America didn’t really save America since he’ll have needed a second take to get it (w)right. Exit question: Is it time to suspend Operation Chaos?

Definitely time to suspend operation chaos. Not many open primaries left anyway.

Reverend Run is the gift that keeps on giving. If you guys wanna see some dem on dem violence, check out ZsaZsa Huffington’s post. I kept telling them that Dr. Evil(George Soros)plans for global domination are imploding. Then they scrubbed every one of my posts like I was an employee at Chernobyl….Censorship at it’s finest…The Dhimmis are too funny……
adamsmith on April 28, 2008 at 1:31 PM
I don’t understand this at all. Rev Wright almost seems bent on destroying Obama’s chances. The only explanation that seems plausible to me is outright stupidity. Could Wright really be this clueless? Or am I missing something?
thuja on April 28, 2008 at 1:32 PM
Assuming that Operation Chaos exists! Hmm.
geckomon on April 28, 2008 at 1:32 PM
The libs love this stuff…you can say whatever you want, words and promises doesn’t matter, whatever it takes to get elected.
Wright better hope that God isn’t white or Jewish when he gets to those pearly gates…
right2bright on April 28, 2008 at 1:32 PM
No. It’s mathematically impossible for Hillary to catch up, and the Dems are too invested in black identity politics to give it to anyone but Obama.
If we can somehow help stretch this insanity out all the way into August, there will only be a few months before the GE. This is good for McCain, because he’s a Bush-like verbal bumbler, and Obama is going to clean his clock in the debates. The best we can hope for from our side is that the ’soft bigotry of low expectations’ works in our favor — hopefully people will not take kindly to a full blown media assault on a vet and former POW.
My bottom line: the shorter the GE campaign is, the better off McCain is.
Blacksheep on April 28, 2008 at 1:33 PM
I believe Obama’s comments to Canada regarding NAFTA are already proof positive that he will say anything to get elected.
Blake on April 28, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Makes you wonder if Wright thinks he is the one who is running for Election.
upinak on April 28, 2008 at 1:34 PM
I think he got his message out there - that he’s a crazy old man who appears hurt that Obama deserted him, therefore he’s going to get even.
He sounded so unwrapped and so self lauding, I really think anyone with a brain could see that, which is probably a good thing for Obama.
It’s obvious Wright is now out for himself, becuase in his mind he feels he was wronged.
He’s also has a book to sell.
AprilOrit on April 28, 2008 at 1:36 PM
McCain may not be a silver tongued devil, but all he has to do is keep bringing up Saul Alinsky, Marxism, Chicago politics and there’s no way the “Empty Suit” can cruise through any debate. Marxist philosophy is Barry’s Achilles Heel……….

RobCon on April 28, 2008 at 1:38 PM
But he never said those comments, that was lying Hillary who said them.
Absolutely, this guy wants so much to be the center of intention, you would have to be blind not to see that. He’s a publicity whore.
And - he’s got a book for sale.
AprilOrit on April 28, 2008 at 1:38 PM
Just to clarify, I respect Rush and listen to him often. I just think that there are so many factors involved (not withstanding the which minority card to play dilemma that have the democrats gnashing at their choppers) that to blame this mess or give credit to one radio talk show host would be naive. Or is it I who is naive?
geckomon on April 28, 2008 at 1:39 PM
If Senator Obama were running for anything other than the Democratic nomination I’d agree that he’s sunk. I’m sure somehow they’ll cast him as the victim of years of hate-speech and praise his ability to rise above it in order to save America.
In the Obama house “BLT” is not served on white bread. Ever.
blankminde on April 28, 2008 at 1:40 PM

Apparently Obama can’t secure his attic access.
geckomon on April 28, 2008 at 1:41 PM
I suppose these are plausible explanations for Wright’s statement, but still I would think that Rev Wright would feel obliged to fall on his own sword to get Obama elected. It’s what I would do if I were Wright. Surely, Wright must have some nobility about him–which is why I suggest stupidity as the best explanation for his statements. Of course, I have never thought well about the mental processes of theologians or preachers with pretences to that description.
thuja on April 28, 2008 at 1:44 PM
Obama has Wright to bring him down, Hillary has Bill and McCain has McCain. I would have to agree with the comment above that the longer McCain can keep out of the spotlight the better it is for him as long as he puts his name out there every now and then.
SkyWatch on April 28, 2008 at 1:45 PM
Wow.
Anyone have the ETA on Barry O’s response? No reporter worth spit would resist saying “Wright, your former pastor and mentor, just stated that everything you say is said solely to get elected.”
TexasDan on April 28, 2008 at 1:47 PM
Wright will eventually learn that all he has to say is that he did it for the lulz. That’s the current get out of any reponsibilty for one’s words and actions card and shifting the blame to those who are offended.

He’s basically saying what many on the Left believe, but are afraid to say in public. If they feel like he’s impacting the Messiah’s election chances, then they might get a little worried. But I think they cheer him everytime he speaks.
You won’t see anything reported about the ‘left-brain’ ‘right-brain’ stuff, though. That’s Jimmy the Greek territory and it might confuse the bitter clinger-ons out there.

The part of the Press Club appearance I thought was even more outrageous was when he was asked to explain the “chickens coming home to roost” comment. He once again called us a terrorist nation that deserved to have terror visited on us and then said those weren’t his words, they were Biblical words. So is he saying Osama Bin Laden was just doing God’s work?

Anyone else notice Obama, his operatives and his egg-sucking MSM pals are now calling Rev. Wright his former pastor?
Former pastor? When did that happen?
I thought Barry did not disown him, he only denounced his racist comments from the pulpit.

Re: Rev. Wright’s comment about biological weapons
The allegation that we gave Saddam Hussein biological weapons is a lie. They got theirs from the Soviet Union, or they made them themselves. The only thing we gave Iraq, at their request, was some non-weaponized anthrax samples from the CDC, that they wanted for “veterinary research.” There’s a world of difference between naturally occurring anthrax and weaponized anthrax.

Exit Answer: No it is not.
We want a Hillary to be barely losing going into the convention. She needs to have the momentum, but not the lead. Then the superdelegates will have to decide either for or against Obama. Either choice will destroy them.
But she needs to win the remaining primaries to do this.

I am so damned tired of everyone dancing around this issue. It is NOT a crime to say that Obama’s association with Wright is problematic. Wright himself said this a year ago. And I quote:
“If Barack gets past the primary, he might have to publicly distance himself from me,” Mr. Wright said with a shrug. “I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen.” (source: New York Times - April 2007)
So tell me, WHY is it bad to claim guilt by association when Wright himself already beat us to it?
My head is about to explode…
cannonball on April 28, 2008 at 1:59 PM
He said this a year ago.
cannonball on April 28, 2008 at 2:00 PM
a friggin’ year ago.
cannonball on April 28, 2008 at 2:01 PM
Maybe, but I think it’s getting a little late for that. Nothing Wright is saying now is any crazier than what he said in front of his congregation for the past 20 years. Obama “disowning” him over these kinds of statements would be an extraordinarily transparent move that would most likely backfire on him.
No. We want the Democratic primary to be as close as possible, so it drags on as long as possible. Obama’s going to win the pledged delegate count, so as long as Hillary stays in, the primary will continue. I think the best strategy now is to begin the task of making Obama answer for Wright’s pronouncements. Maybe start with getting him on record as to whether or not he thinks the government created AIDS. It’s a theory worthy of ridicule, but he can’t really say “no” too forcefully, since so much of his base believes it. The best way to defeat a politician is to ridicule them, and there are many opportunities to do so with Obama.

Is there a “White Church”, and if so would any of its members have any chance of ever winning a national position?
WisCon on April 28, 2008 at 2:01 PM
I’d say no. While Obama is a weak candidate who is getting weaker every time Wright opens his mouth, his supporters still cry “racist” every time anyone says anything negative about him, and I’m already sick of that.
I sincerely hope we don’t have to put up with that in the general election.

faraway on April 28, 2008 at 2:02 PM
ok, here is the passage regarding Obama dis-inviting Wright to his candidacy announcement:
Senator Obama has been in your congregation for 20 years, yet you were not invited to his announcement of his presidential candidacy in Illinois.
Oh, I was not invited because that was a political event. Let me say again: I’m his pastor. As a political event, who started it off? Senator Dick Durbin. I started it off downstairs with him, his wife, and children in prayer. That’s what pastors do.
So Wright contradicts Obama’s statement that Wright was dis-invited. He was there, downstairs, giving Obama last minute encouragement, advice and spiritual strength.

I know you in particular Esthier - hate Obama, many here do, but I am not so sure this is a done deal.
AprilOrit on April 28, 2008 at 2:14 PM
I think if Rev. Wright discovered a super-8 movie of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr’s 1968 assassination, made standing behind James Earl Ray, looking over Ray’s shoulder and down the barrel of his rifle as he shot King, he’d burn that movie. It wouldn’t fit his view of what happened to Rev. King–no US Government conspiracy. It’s the same reason he doesn’t want Obama to be President. Wright is afraid whites will vote for Obama, and nobody will assassinate him, and then blacks will stop listening to black racists like Wright.
RBMN on April 28, 2008 at 2:15 PM
Forget about Operation Chaos, the liberals on the SCOTUS dissented in the Indiana Voter ID ruling on the basis that it deters voting. Why would ensuring that elections are fairly conducted by verifying identity be deemed a bad thing by anybody? Why are blacks, Hispanics, and the poor unwilling to show positive ID before voting? What exactly do they have to hide if they are legal registered voters???

With a little luck, McCain can beat either Barry or Hillary. I’m hoping Hils steals the nomination, so the black backlash can be directed at her (and the dem party) instead of McCain and the GOP.
In any event, the longer the Obama-Clinton fight persists, the better for McCain. Long live Operation Chaos.

——————-
Too far, AP.
Hill cannot catch Bambi in pledged delegates. We should make it as close as possible, in order to make it as easy as possible for the superdels to screw Bambi out of the nomination.
Then, those dreams of riots in Denver (which would have absolutely no part in producing said riots), or at least total chaos, would be most likely. And the prospect of large numbers of blacks either staying home or voting McCain would be assured.
misterpeasea on April 28, 2008 at 2:22 PM
If it looks like he might do that, the best thing to do is to force his hand by bogging him down in the details. So far he’s been able to get away with a generalization about “some” of Wright’s “controversial statements” without identifying his positions on any specific one of them. As I said above, he needs to be asked if he thinks the government created AIDS, if he thinks the CIA is behind the proliferation of drugs among African-Americans, if the U.S.A. really “deserved” 9/11, etc. He’s sure to make himself look foolish answering most of those questions, and for good reason.

I don’t see any downside to sustaining Hillary into the convention if Operation Chaos can really make the difference. While I now think Obama would be a highly damaged candidate in the general election, Hillary would also be highly damaged if she manages to snag the Dem nomination. I really think a large piece of the black vote would be in no mood for reconciliation of Hillary “stole” the nomination from Obama.
So who’s worse for McCain: Obama, with his racist/terrorist/fringe-kook coterie of friends, wife and mentors in the background, or Hillary without the black vote (and with Billy Jeff popping off intermittently)?
I say it’s a draw.

RJW (Rev. Jeremiah Wright) the white hater, who paradoxically is building a 10,000 square foot mansion in a classy white neighborhood, has a vested interest in BHO’s defeat. Wright’s church thrives on divisiveness and hatred.
RJW is one rich dude. If BHO loses, he will be an even richer dude delivering hate-filled perorations explaining why BHO lost. A BHO victory, however, would marginalize RJW and his church.

Dash on April 28, 2008 at 2:38 PM
That about sums it up, though I still think Hill would be the weaker candidate no matter what. Remember, she started with 45-50% of the country saying they woulnd’t vote for her under any circumstances. Now add the lack of the black vote.
Bambi is a little more of an unknown. He’d still be the stronger candidate, though it’s looking more and more like not strong enough.
Close enough to a draw.
misterpeasea on April 28, 2008 at 2:39 PM
Wright seems to be engineering a massive backlash, should Obama be denied the nomination or lose the election. He’ll have plenty of complicity from ‘progressive’ whites, whose mission of course is revolution from within. Almost any way the chips fly, it looks like hard times ahead.
Possibly Wright looks forward to replacing Sharpton and Jackson as Race-Hustler-In-Chief.
petefrt on April 28, 2008 at 2:46 PM
Keep up the good work, Reverand Wright, and keep those numbskull torpedos comming toward the USS Obama.
You have set the Black Church back 50 years already, maybe more.
You just don’t understand that America pulls for the underdog, but America expects results. You can blame the lack of social and economic progress effecting too many blacks on whitie, but you need to look in the mirror for the real reason. The acknowledged “Black culture” in America is all about excuses and victimism. No call for people to “step up” and exercise the theory that you can’t keep a good man (or woman) down. You often make your own luck and usually get what you earn. Welfare checks are no substiture for effort and accomplishment.
Wize up.

Rev. Wright:
Someone needs to read Black Rednecks and White Liberals by Thomas Sowell.
For Wright to say the attacks are not against him, but against the black church tells me all I need to know. A statement like that is designed to get and keep blacks stirred up, enraged, and hating whites. The attack is against Wright and the inflammatory things he has said. I’ve been to many black churches, including Trinity, and the vast majority of them focus on scripture (as they should) with a little politics thrown in every once in a while. Which is why I never went back to Trinity. There was way too much focus on politics and not enough on scripture.
I say “Rev. Wright, take your lumps like a man, and stop trying to drag black churches down with you.”
But, he won’t, for the very reason below
macblanegirl on April 28, 2008 at 3:39 PM
I think Faraway may be on to something. Wright is so heavily invested in the grievance industry that for him, getting a black man elected President is not only impossible but also undesirable. Probably the only good thing to come out of an Obama win would be that the Wrights of the world would have nothing left to whine about.
In response to Allah’s question, it is emphatically not time to call off Operation Chaos. At this stage, the only way Hillary can possibly secure the nomination is to lose a close race among pledge delegates while persuading the superdelegates to “steal” the election for her. It will be Sore/Loserman all over again, only this time it will pit half of the Democratic Party against the other half, with party bosses facing the impossible task of convincing the two warring camps to quickly unite against a common enemy who most Democrats never perceived as much of an enemy in the first place. Hillary can’t possibly beat McCain under those circumstances, which today’s polls do not take into account.
Further, when picking one’s poison (as if it were ours to pick anyway), it’s a mistake to consider only the relative probabilities of two undesirable outcomes without also considering how much worse one scenario would be than the other if either were to materialize. An Obama nomination may be less likely to result in the Dems taking the White House, but an Obama loss in the general is by no means a sure thing. I’d almost prefer to take my chances with four more years of President Billary than give President Obama have any chance whatsoever.
Xrlq on April 28, 2008 at 3:53 PM
Has anyone ever enjoyed the “spotlight” more than Reverend Wright? All of this only serves him and his ministry. Think of how many more angry, militant, establishment-hating, anti-government individuals will flock to him and feed off the negative fairytales while his coffers grow. Say hello to the newer, bigger church, the newer, bigger car and the bigger than life presence of the “made it to the big time” Rev. Wright.

Clinton knows she can’t win and won’t win, but she is trying to bloody Obama for the general election so she can run as the presumptive 2012 nominee against an incumbent McCain.
Either way, Obama is not going to win the general and may be finished as a presidential contender. I suspect the rage merchants will be selling a lot of stuff in the aftermath but will be test marketing between now and then.

That clip should be the only thing needed to run for a Mav win.

DING DING DING…We have a winner!!
My thoughts exactly, if Obama is elected then Wright and his fellow race baiters will be out of business.

What amazes me is how this sleazy b**** can talk about being held accountable to God, and then turning around and supporting a candidate that supports abortion 110%. Unfathomable.
As another Hotair reader pointed out, black abortions have killed more african-americans since Roe v. Wade than AIDS, cancer, and car accidents combined. And this punk “preacher” supports the vessel that ensures that this trend continues.

Wright is bigger news than Obama. Can’t be apprciated by the Obama camp.

I talked to a cousin the other day who mentioned she’s really political. I asked who she’s voting for (assuming the worst) and she said she and her brother were voting Obama. When I asked her why, she said they both want a change and that he’s fresh. (Yes she actually said that) I asked her about Wright and she said Obama wasn’t there when the controversial comments were made and she believed him. I asked her where she got her news and guess what?! She said CNN! I told her she needed to get another news source.
PS She also said she HATES Hillary because she’s mean to Obama.

Thanks to Operation Chaos, or we would not be enjoying all these drama. We should keep going until the end. I would love to see both Dems tearing each other and even the media cannot seem to do anything.
