The Wright Stuff: Farrakhan “one of the most important voices” of the last century’ Update: Wright’s security provided by Nation of Islam
posted at 2:50 pm on April 28, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Barack Obama’s torment continues as more excerpts from Jeremiah Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club today hits the Internet. This question and answer attempts to rehabilitate Louis Farrakhan by pretending that everything negative the Nation of Islam leader said about Jews was meant in the context of Zionism only:
Really? The ADL has a few more quotes than just the 1988 speech that Wright mentions, and a lot more recent as well:
“Do you know some of these satanic Jews have taken over BET?… Everything that we built, they have. The mind of Satan now is running the record industry, movie industry and television. And they make us look like we’re the murders; we look like we’re the gangsters, but we’re punk stuff.”
“Justifiable Homicide: Black Youth in Peril (Part 3)” speech at Mosque Maryam, 11/11/07
“The real anti-Semites are those who came out of Europe and settled in Palestine, and now they call themselves the true Jews, when in fact, they converted to Judaism.”
Al Jazeera TV interview, 3/18/07
“These false Jews promote the filth of Hollywood that is seeding the American people and the people of the world and bringing you down in moral strength…It’s the wicked Jews the false Jews that are promoting Lesbianism, homosexuality. It’s wicked Jews, false Jews that make it a crime for you to preach the word of God, then they call you homophobic!”
Saviours’ Day, Chicago, Illinois, 2/26/06
“I’m not an anti-Semite, I never have been one. I do not hate the Jewish people; put that down! What I hate is the degree of control that they exercise over Black intellectual, cultural expression. I do not think that no human being should determine how high we can go, that can only be determined by God and by us; not by no white man, no black man, no human being [crowd cheers].”
Millions More Movement rally, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 8/31/05
Wright has to be kidding if he thinks that people can’t find Farrakhan’s public speeches on Jews and see for themselves his rampant anti-Semitism. And Team Obama has to wonder when Wright will stop shooting his mouth off in public.
Update (AP): No wonder he’s fond of Farrakhan. The man provides him with his security.
In front of 30 television cameras, Wright’s audience cheered him on as the minister mocked the media and, at one point, did a little victory dance on the podium. It seemed as if Wright, jokingly offering himself as Obama’s vice president, was actually trying to doom Obama; a member of the head table, American Urban Radio’s April Ryan, confirmed that Wright’s security was provided by bodyguards from Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.

Thomas Sowell, National Review Online, March 18, 2008:
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=YTQ0MDI5ZDE5MTcyYjBmMjI0MmVhZjhiOTM2MDI5NzM=
“Spin number one is that Jeremiah Wright’s words were ‘taken out of context.’ Like most people who use this escape hatch, those who say this do not explain what the words mean when taken in context.
In just what context does ‘God damn America’ mean something different?”
Django on April 28, 2008 at 5:25 PM
Keep in mind that Obama spend some very formative years (ages 6 to 10) being raised in the world’s most populous Muslim nation (Indonesia).
Keep in mind that Obama can recite Muslim prayers perfectly and thinks the sound of the Muslim call to prayers (broadcast by loudspeakers from the mosques) is “the most beautiful sound on Earth”.
Now it is revealed that his “pastor” is provided security by Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.
This man seeks the highest office in our country, but he, his wife, and his “pastor” want to “bring [this] empire to it’s knees”.

Well, I guess Rev. Wright answered the question about Louis Farrakan: Louis Farrakan is black. So there!
This is the same answer that Barak Obama gave in his “historic” speech on race in America concerning Rev. Wright: Rev. Wright is black. So there!
Do you think Jeremiah and Barak are going to criticize a black person, when there are millions of white people who are historically responsible for putting them in “slavery” available to criticize?
Not any more than you are going to criticize Rev. Wright’s “Mama!” (applause, laughter, whoops)
This is where affirmative “action,” excuse me, “racism,” has taken us.
As Don Imus found out, just because you use black English doesn’t make you black.
Stepan on April 28, 2008 at 5:45 PM
I think Mr. Wright has every right to feel the way he does. After all, I would likely be a bitter anti-American racist too if I had become so successful and wealthy as a black American through the luxury of my freedoms of speech and religion.

Until he criticized them.

Wright is bigger news than Obama, at a crucial time. One wonders if Bill undermines Hillary, and if Wright undermines Obama…

Obama’s spiritual mentor of 20 years is a stark raving mad lunatic, racist, who doesn’t care much for Israel…and is also closely linked to one of the biggest racists in the country. Yet millions of Barack supporters see no problem with this.
I’m sorry, folks, but it can no longer be discounted (as some have). A great deal of Obama’s support is race-based, plain and simple. How else do you explain the support after all the racism, race-obsession, etc. with Obama’s close associate? The man sat in a pew for 20 flippin’ years, don’t tell me he doesn’t share some of the racist ideology himself! Wouldn’t it be ironic if the first black president was also probably sort of racist himself?
20 years of Sundays, I see no other logical explanation.

Watching the Dem primary campaign is like watching the Titanic try to weave through an obstacle course. The whole reason they’re in so much trouble is that they spooked early on Hillary. Somewhere during the days when Edwards and the other B-listers were still in the game, the Democrat power structure panicked and thought Hillary was their inevitable nominee, and a guaranteed general-election loser. Nervously eyeing Hillary’s terrifying negative polling figures, they seized on Obama as an appealing mirror image: no baggage, genuine charisma, superior position on the aggrieved-minority totem pole… They should have checked harder for baggage, but you can’t really blame them – would you have wanted to be the DNC staffer who suggested investigating a black church to find out if the pastor was a drooling lunatic? Now the Titanic is trying to pull a three-point turn and tack back to its original course, away from the suddenly unelectable Obama. Today’s Wright shockers have the fingerprints of Clinton loyalists and party elders all over them. This is an opening move in the dance that ends with Obama tearfully ending his campaign a week or two before the Dem convention, and encouraging his followers to support the wonderful Hillary Clinton, who will lead the fight against the forces of intolerance and divisiveness, et cetera, ad nauseum. Barack Obama: dead man walking.
Doctor Zero on April 28, 2008 at 9:12 PM
Bravo. Give that man 2 microphones and four camera’s. It is absolutely comical that Obama’s own people, from his wife to his preacher seem to be doing everything they possibly can to torpedo Obama’s campaign.
Something to take notice of, the people Obama surrounds himself with now. Now think of what his Cabinet, ambassadors, and jurist selctions will look like….. (shiver shiver shake shake)

You know what’s really nice? James Carville and Mary Matalin can talk politics at home again. Obama–the post-partisan candidate?

Hog Wild yep, he’s not made much of an effort to hide these folks at all, so if he wins, he is justified in appointing them and nomnating them to positions of real power.
But, but McCain’s bad on immigration, so he’s just as dangerous to the country, right?

Does anyone think the “Rev.” Wright is in for a rude awakening when he receives his judgement at the gates of Heaven?
I question his Christian credibility.

Lou Dobbs on Imus this morning said Wright should shut up and disappear. I heartily disagree. He should continue his speaking tour through early November!

No, McCain changed his position because of the will of the American people. Name another politician who did so. Over a year ago I was a McCain guy, then Shamnesty came along and I was a Romney guy as much as it pained me to leave a fellow veteran. Well Romney isn’t running anymore, my other two choices are Shamnesty proponents who won’t close the border either. At least McCain has promised to shut off the open borders.
Running every last illegal immigrant out of the country is probably unrealistic. I would like to see that happen, but I can accept reality. Shut of the spicket at least, we can absorb 20 million, close the borders, and make current illegals start paying taxes is something Obama or Clinton do not offer.
You can only bet on the horses that are in the race. Right now there are only 3 left. Who’s the closest to what you want? That’s reality.
Hog Wild on April 28, 2008 at 11:33 PM
Hog Wild, I’m a military wife. I’m voting for McCain, as is my husband and all of our parents. My comment was just a poke at all of those who come on here and say it won’t matter who wins the election, because McCain’s the same as Obama.
funky chicken on April 28, 2008 at 11:45 PM
I have thought all along he would be the weaker candidate, the dream of the GOP. Looks like he will be the one, or the media and the elitists and the minorities will destroy what’s left of the Democrats.
I think he’ll get 40% of the popular vote.
What do you think?

The Clintons need to release one of their vacation “dancing on the beach” videos (with them smiling and love-dovey) immediately.
Only this time it’ll be for real.
Both getting happier by the day.
To show the contrast between uptight Barry and Jerry and the serene Clintons.

Another nail in the coffin for Wright’s and Obama’s credibility.” When it comes to this: “Wright’s security provided by Nation of Islam”…it’s more like a big slab of concrete.
…”attempts to rehabilitate Louis Farrakhan by pretending that everything negative the Nation of Islam leader said about Jews was meant in the context of Zionism only”…Is there a databank somewhere that lists Zionists, do they carry a card, is there some way you can identify them by skin color or facial features?…The ‘Zionist’ thing has always been a big fat conundrum for me.

Geronimo on April 29, 2008 at 1:48 PM
I am warning everybody now. This latest dust up with Rev. Wright is all a coordinated setup by the Obama campaign staff!
Obama tried for the “It was all a mischaracterization of Rev. Wright. He’s a nice guy. I won’t denounce him.” That didn’t sell. His internal polling and focus groups showed that the public was not buying the story since Obama had been a loyal church member for 20 years. Obama was losing ground. And it would hurt him in November!
Obama needed to find a “quick exit”. But how do you denounce Wright when you have already refused to do so????? Well, you need Wright to say something even more outrageous and then denounce that. As Obama’s loyal counselor, mentor and Pastor who presided over his wedding and the baptism of his children, Rev. Wright was willing. So Pastor Jeremiah came out of hiding (where he had passed up some honorary awards) and calls a series of press conferences and issues some more outrageous comments.
Quick like a rabbit, Obama denounces the “latest statements”. He then denounces Sharpton. Then Obama calls a press conference to “answer the questions about Rev. Wright”. Gee. Would would have guessed?!?!?!?!?!?!
Thi is such an obvious sham, it is hilarious that anyone is buying into it! Obama merely wants to dispose of the Rev. Wright issue by denouncing him. But he needed a new provocation in order to justify it. And Wright gave him the opening. And undoubtedly they planned it together!
Gingrich is the funny one in all of this. He is asking, “Is Rev. Wright trying to undermine Obama”? Of course not! the Pastor is doing Obama a favor. Its a coordinated kabuki dance. Obama gets to dispose of Wright six months before the election and then refuse to discuss it till after the election. Then who do you think will be holding the bible when he is sworn in?
Why are you all missing this? Obama has the nomination locked. This is the final move to prepare for the general election. Dump Wright. Dump Sharpton. Dump Jesse. Then they all meet after the election and toss back a few scotches and call for women and cigars! Big con job on America! How else could Obama unload the “Rev. Wright scandal” from around his neck? He had to have a premise! So he asked Wright to fall on his sword, and Jeremiah complied!. Anyone buying into this is simply blind!
tehehehe on April 29, 2008 at 3:26 PM
Obama is a racist at heart.
Wright is a racist.
Neither can stop pointing out their “blackness”, which is no way to unify a country nor to open any dialogue, which neither wants.
End of story.
