The Wright Stuff: Farrakhan “one of the most important voices” of the last century’ Update: Wright’s security provided by Nation of Islam
posted at 2:50 pm on April 28, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama’s torment continues as more excerpts from Jeremiah Wright’s appearance at the National Press Club today hits the Internet. This question and answer attempts to rehabilitate Louis Farrakhan by pretending that everything negative the Nation of Islam leader said about Jews was meant in the context of Zionism only:
Really? The ADL has a few more quotes than just the 1988 speech that Wright mentions, and a lot more recent as well:
“Do you know some of these satanic Jews have taken over BET?… Everything that we built, they have. The mind of Satan now is running the record industry, movie industry and television. And they make us look like we’re the murders; we look like we’re the gangsters, but we’re punk stuff.”
“Justifiable Homicide: Black Youth in Peril (Part 3)” speech at Mosque Maryam, 11/11/07
“The real anti-Semites are those who came out of Europe and settled in Palestine, and now they call themselves the true Jews, when in fact, they converted to Judaism.”
Al Jazeera TV interview, 3/18/07
“These false Jews promote the filth of Hollywood that is seeding the American people and the people of the world and bringing you down in moral strength…It’s the wicked Jews the false Jews that are promoting Lesbianism, homosexuality. It’s wicked Jews, false Jews that make it a crime for you to preach the word of God, then they call you homophobic!”
Saviours’ Day, Chicago, Illinois, 2/26/06
“I’m not an anti-Semite, I never have been one. I do not hate the Jewish people; put that down! What I hate is the degree of control that they exercise over Black intellectual, cultural expression. I do not think that no human being should determine how high we can go, that can only be determined by God and by us; not by no white man, no black man, no human being [crowd cheers].”
Millions More Movement rally, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 8/31/05
Wright has to be kidding if he thinks that people can’t find Farrakhan’s public speeches on Jews and see for themselves his rampant anti-Semitism. And Team Obama has to wonder when Wright will stop shooting his mouth off in public.
Update (AP): No wonder he’s fond of Farrakhan. The man provides him with his security.
In front of 30 television cameras, Wright’s audience cheered him on as the minister mocked the media and, at one point, did a little victory dance on the podium. It seemed as if Wright, jokingly offering himself as Obama’s vice president, was actually trying to doom Obama; a member of the head table, American Urban Radio’s April Ryan, confirmed that Wright’s security was provided by bodyguards from Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam.

I watch more of those videos at the Red Lasso site. They’re all about the same. He acts like a kid playing some kind of game where he’s the smartest person in the room, and everyone’s trying to get him with a “gotcha” question.
In one he complains that the government has never officially apologized for slavery.
Is he under the impression that this government or any other “European” government created slavery? Does he not realize that if his ancestors came here through a slave ship that they were already slaves over in Africa?
Does he want an apology from the African tribes who sold blacks to America?
Esthier on April 28, 2008 at 3:25 PM
Yes. If Her Majesty gets the nod in Denver it’ll occur there. If Barry gets the nod, it’ll come during and after the general election. Tie that to the Detroit mayoral mess, Sharpton, Jackson, the Black Congressional Caucus, BLT and the black ministers who are selling it,…there is going to be some major disruption.

I watched this thing this morning and felt like I was having an out-of-body experience… I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing and seeing. This man tries to pass himself off as a learned scholar of scripture when in fact his application of the material is woefully inept. What’s more — HE’S A NUT! I thought I was watching an SNL skit. I also liked how he passed on a question about Bill Clinton’s remarkes throughout the campaign because he was not there to make “political” statements, yet he was all to happy to mention Vice President Cheney in a quip about military service, or lack thereof. What an a-hole.

It’s not self-aggrandizement, IMHO. I think Wright is trying to act as Obama’s accountability mentor. It’s something several of our churches have done, where groups of men/friends form small groups to help them live up to their own standards of Christian husbands and fathers. The guys remind each other of the high standards and philosophies that they subscribe to and provide support and correction when needed.
Obama has told Wright for 20 years that his ideals match with Wright’s, and that Obama will fight for those ideas when elected. I think Wright is just trying to hold Obama to the philosophy that he espoused for so many years.
funky chicken on April 28, 2008 at 3:27 PM
You’re probably right. If this were a setup for a “Sister Soldjah moment” it would have happened already, or maybe Obama would have decided to take Hillary up on her debate pledge to get an opportunity to do it in front of everyone. Instead, he’s hiding from the media. It’s at the point where denunciation of Wright will lead people to ask why he didn’t do so sooner, when Wright’s arguably more inflammatory remaks came to light. There’s not a whole lot he can do about Wright anymore.

He does not bother me as much as Hagee, saw him again Sunday morning with his Zionist pushing. Wanting to protect Israel is one thing, but saying that the justification lies in a book written by people who thought the earth is flat…and then saying that those flat earthers then predicted the end of the worlds because of a hallucination in the last chapter is beyond retardation. Of course the ones pushing it really don’t believe it. Must be a shortage of straightjackets.
LevStrauss on April 28, 2008 at 3:36 PM
How could any Christian minister support Louis Farrakhan? If you believe Christian theology, you must believe Farrakhan is leading people straight to hell as his faith denys the divinity of Christ. Surely you would have to believe that the eternal salvation of your fellow man is more important than any earthly gains for the African-American community made by Farrakhan leading people away from Christ. This leads to the only possible conclusion that Wright and his church cannot possibly be considered Christian. This point needs to be made as often as possible.

It’s clear to me that BO joined this church for street cred and now the good reverend is sending the message to BO that I made you and I can break you. Some Obamists, like Joe Klein, now say that Wright is intentionally trying to destroy Obama’s candidacy.
It does seem like it. Think about that.
Rather than lie low and be subdued indefinitely into the future, Wright is prancing around and being himself, going over the top, with obvious joyous feeling of release, talking his crackpot shtick, also saying that he’ll go after Obama if Obama becomes President.
Couldn’t Wright’s current words and behavior be in order to make it easier for Obama to sever their ties? Then they can be free of each other, and Wright can reap lots of financial rewards. I suspect that that’s where this all is headed.
ForNow on April 28, 2008 at 3:50 PM
That was probably part of the reason, but judging from Obama’s race-obsessed books and his America-denigrating wife and friends (e.g., Ayers), I’d bet that Obama shares a lot more of Wright’s views that he’d ever be willing to admit to in public.

Indeed. I think both of them are racist Marxists. And neither is Christian. Having security provided by Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam is a HUGE giveaway.
A candidate most certainly does not have to be Christian to run for President, but if they are going to publicly claim to be Christian (in order to win more votes) then I think we have every right to ask them to prove it by publicly confessing “Jesus is Lord”.

Looks like someone is setting himself up to be the leader of the Obama Outrage 08 movement…something that doesn’t materialize if Obama is the white man’s nominee. Rev Wright engineering a media coup at the height of Obama’s popularity thus might serve a greater strategic goal to bring about real and abrupt societal change as we saw in the 60s. Did he calculate that a suddenly soft-spoken candidate who disowns his black radical faith and friends suddenly can’t be trusted to be “the one we’ve been waiting for”?

If I Don’t Succeed Then You Won’t Either
Years ago, my first out-of-college job was a temporary stop onto another career, but provided an experience of intensive contact with African-American street kids and their families.
I remember my frustration when the success of one student would draw hostility from their peers and outright attempts to sabotage their potential rise. One day, the department head, an older black women, told a story to help me understand the dynamics of street culture:
A man encountered an old fisherman with a bucket full of crabs on the way to the market. The bucket lacked a lid and the crabs were attempting to crawl out. The man admonished the old fisherman that he was about to lose the crabs fighting to get out. The old man laughed and replied; “Buddy these crabs ain’t goin nowhere”. The other man insisted, “no, look right there, one is almost over the top”. The fisherman explained: “every time one of these crabs gets its leg over the top– another one reaches up with a claw and draws it right on back down with the rest of them”.
