Ah, yes. Perhaps I can be of some assistance. As a native and continuing resident of Scotland (hence time delay in contributing to these messageboards)I can honestly say that I think most Scots would struggle to remember who Craig Ferguson was. If indeed they ever knew. (I’ll test this hypothesis at work tomorrow and get back to you). I have a vague recollection of him having been on the TV in Scotland some time ago but for the life of me I couldn’t tell you the name of any programme he appeared in or whether indeed it was a sitcom, chatshow or children’s show (or all or none of the above). I can’t remember ever being struck by how funny he was. Billy Connolly he was not.

That he has gone on to great things in the US is a source of bemusement to me (and, I suspect, to most other Scots). Without wishing to appear condescending to you Yanks (being as how you’re so bitter and attached to your guns and religion ‘n’ all) I have a feeling that Mr Ferguson’s success owes a little to the “Gee, I love your accent” factor.

(Tracy Ullman’s success in the States also leaves me bemused, by the way. She was significantly better known in Britain than Craig Ferguson, however.)

This is the first time I think I’ve ever enjoyed listening to this guy.

I smile thinking about them viewing/reading this post and these comments.

GWBush gave a great encore comedic performance, himself.

The Press will miss GW more than they’ll ever admit. There hasn’t been another POTUS ever so willing to poke such good fun of himself. When the joke’s not on us, GWB is great!

Look at the faces in the crowd, they didn’t know whether to laugh or wind their watch (you never know who’s watching).

The New York Times unfortunately did not buy a table.

They felt this event undercut the credibility of the press.

It’s funny, you see I thought Jayson Blair and Judy Miller took care of that.

I agree with him 100%. The NYT doesn’t like the event solely because they don’t like the current president. Put BHO in office, and they couldn’t attend fast enough.
