New DNC ad: McCain wants 100 years of war in Iraq

Au contraire, says the Times, rushing to defend the spot: “In the commercial, Mr. McCain’s words speak for themselves, not misstated as they have been on the campaign trail as though he called for 100 years of war.” Really? 100 years of war versus 100 years of peaceful occupation on the German and Japanese model: If you didn’t know which one McCain had proposed, what would this ad lead you to believe he’d said?
Exit question: When does the first RNC ad targeting Tony “A century, hopefully” McPeak drop?

I assume Obama will denounce this old politics out of hand.

Oh, for cryin’ out loud…
Is this the best the Dem’s can come up with? All McCain was saying was we stay in Iraq until the job is done. 100 years, if it’s necessary.
Now, I’m no fortune teller, but I’ll take a stab that McCain won’t be President in 100 years.
JetBoy on April 27, 2008 at 3:10 PM
McCain campaign = the exciting, vital dynamism of…Bob Dole, Part Deux.
He’s going to “high-class” his way straight to defeat.
Django on April 27, 2008 at 3:12 PM
Sometimes the most blatant lies can be told by telling only half of the truth, as is the case here.
RBMN on April 27, 2008 at 3:15 PM
Anyone with even an ounce of intellect knows precisely what McCain meant. But, considering the types of people the Democrats are attempting to reach this add may be effective, even though it is utterly stupid.
rplat on April 27, 2008 at 3:16 PM
It would be a damn good time to start a duct tape business.
I’ll be rich by the end of October.
Django’s Bob Dole comparison isn’t far off the mark. All respectful will get Johnny Mac is an also-ran appearance on the Tonight Show.

Could all of those images be termed as “fear mongering”?
Vizzini on April 27, 2008 at 3:19 PM
Ah but no one knows when the peaceful occupation along German and Japanese lines will begin. Therefore its entirely possible that 100 years could mean 34 years of war and 66 years of peaceful occupation. When the fighting is over the talk about peaceful occupation gains credence.
In other words, the
sciencefighting is not yet settled.aengus on April 27, 2008 at 3:19 PM
They forgot to include the pictures from Abu Ghraib, to indicate that McCain endorses torture. Would go well next to his line “that’s be fine with me,” you know, for the subliminal effect. Maybe next time… /sarcasm
tagryn on April 27, 2008 at 3:21 PM
McCain deserves this. His naive and stubborn belief in taking the “high road” has opened the door for continued twisting of his words and positions. The DNC knows Juan will not fight back, he has handed them carte blanche to do or say whatever they want. You go Juan, you the man!
dmann on April 27, 2008 at 3:26 PM
Of democrats, we can expect a century of higher taxes, bloated governments bureaucracy’s and unnecessary entitlement programs.
You don’t even need a commercial for that. It’s their platform.
Kini on April 27, 2008 at 3:28 PM
Missing the point entirely.
What matters here is that the DNC (and Hilldog/Obama) and their lackeys will attack McCain. They will continue to distory what he says – the actual subject matter is irrelevant.
All the while McCain stands by and attack his own party reps in other states for running ads he has never even seen, about a race which has nothing to do with the Presidency!
McCain can run “an above board” campaign all he wants to.
His opponenets will not. They are not as this ad shows.
Dems attack McCain.
McCain attacks Republicans and conservatives.
How does that translate to a victory in November?
catmman on April 27, 2008 at 3:28 PM
or it might win him the middle of a polarized electorate and the Presidency
windansea on April 27, 2008 at 3:31 PM
Wasn’t there a movie in which Chris Rock ran for President?
I think I remember his opponent claiming that he was “pro-cancer” by taking one of his statements out of context.
blink on April 27, 2008 at 3:32 PM
I’m going to vote for Ron Paul or Mike Hucabee here in NC…it doesn’t matter which one…because I want McCain to get less than 50% in the primary. I’m tired of defending McCain. Exhausted.
SouthernGent on April 27, 2008 at 3:34 PM
Don’t worry SouthernGent, McCain’s the nominee of the Republicans, and the Democrats will get Hillary. That’s going to make it Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Clinton, in the History books.

They will never alienate the Black vote.
The white woman vote will have no where to go and will vote the party line.

Considering the rapidity at which the centre shifts left it ought to be the conservatives doing the wondering.
aengus on April 27, 2008 at 3:46 PM
Yeah, that worked so well for Bob Dole. I remember wondering when the Dole campaign was going to get started. It never did. It was all about being polite and formal and low-key and he got his ass handed to him like it was an Arkansas chicken fried steak.
I’m not saying McCain should go completely bonkers with negative campaigning but if crapping on North Carolina Republicans and licking Obama’s shoes is his idea of a vigorous campaign then it’s “Congratulations President Obama”.
Django on April 27, 2008 at 3:53 PM
I just really really hate John McCain. I’d take Lucifer over McCain as President. Hillary would be better, slightly, than Obama, so I’m pushing for Hillary.
McCain would be the worst President this nation has ever had. He’d do more damage to the nation than any Democrat. The reason is simple, he’d destroy the Republican party as well as the nation.
Snake307 on April 27, 2008 at 3:53 PM
Which is really the funny part. Even if McCain wanted us to be there for 100 years, it doesn’t really matter, now does it? He’ll be dead in 10-15 tops.
Seixon on April 27, 2008 at 4:01 PM
If one man can destroy the party, it wasn’t much of a party, was it?
RBMN on April 27, 2008 at 4:03 PM
It simply means that the DNC is just as corrupt as the MSM.
Travis1 on April 27, 2008 at 4:14 PM
527 Dem ad: Johnny Mac is a hack.
Dem candidate response: It wasn’t my ad.
527 Rep ad: Obama is a hack.
Rep candidate response: I condemn that ad (meaning it isn’t true and Republicans are hacks).
If you have faith that the plebs (there goes Lim being elitist again) will see it differently you’re nuts.
Limerick on April 27, 2008 at 4:25 PM
With McCain, conservatives will have a two-front war. The old front against the liberal Dems and a dangerous front in our rear and flanks with liberal McCain and his RINOs on the attack.
With McCain, America and the “loyal” Republicans posting here will be more willing to socialize large sectors of the economy because of blind trust. Hillary would have a much harder time bringing us socialized medicine than McCain and those forced to go along with him.

(To the tune of “Loch Loman“) [sung by Johnny Mac]:
Oh, I’ll take the High Road
And they’ll take the Low Road,
And they’ll be in Office

‘Kos me and the White House
Will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks of
Potomac!

Listening to weird Howard Dean on one of the Sunday shows, I wanted to ask him why he said we shouldn’t believe an Arab country would be able to peacefully coexist just as well as Germany and Japan have. He sounded like a closet anti-Arab racist.
raybury on April 27, 2008 at 5:05 PM
America and the “loyal” Republicans posting here will be more willing to socialize large sectors of the economy because of blind trust.
You assumption of our “blind following” is rather ironic given that your post read like a Limbaugh transcript.
Squid Shark on April 27, 2008 at 5:07 PM
Hey, when the rest of the Republican folks attack you for opposing McCain, just tell them you’re a Maverick, and the best way to be appreciated is to attack your own side.
Snake307 on April 27, 2008 at 5:13 PM
War, of course. Which is what he effectively proposes.
freevillage on April 27, 2008 at 5:14 PM
The DNC is lying. Howard Dean is lying. He tried to weasel out of it this morning when Russert asked him about it this morning, but he just made himself look even slimier.
juliesa on April 27, 2008 at 5:14 PM
Now you know how we feel being “Mavericks” to you guys for the last 20 years.
Squid Shark on April 27, 2008 at 5:16 PM
This a tactic I have seen before. Asking someone if they don’t think Arabs are capable of building a stable democracy. “What are you some kind of closet racist?”
The issue, realistically, is Islam. Not “Arabness”. While is true that the Arabs use Islam as a vehicle for Arab supremacy over non-Arab Muslims, the fact is that the reason they and their societies are so screwed up is due to the mental atmosphere created by their total belief system.

I’ve written a post detailing the many lies told by Dean, the DNC, and the NY Times regarding this new ad-
Disgusting dishonesty once again. First Obama distorts McCain’s words over and over, now his backers at the DNC are doing it! Amazing.
TheBlueSite on April 27, 2008 at 5:53 PM
Oops. Screwed that up. The text in blue is the link to my post on the matter.

Thanks for your honesty. There is already a party that follows your philosophy. Check out DNC.org. Please stop messing with the Party of Reagan.
Valiant on April 27, 2008 at 6:00 PM
Because their current CULTURE is nothing like that of Germany circa 1945. It’s not about race, it’s about culture. But thanks for being a stupid imitation of a stereotypical Democrat.
freevillage on April 27, 2008 at 6:12 PM
Downright dishonest. Everything I’ve come to expect from the Democrat party.
MCPO Airdale on April 27, 2008 at 7:24 PM
Disgusting and hopefully obviously deceptive. What’s next? “I…McCain…am…Bush’s…love…child. Obama…is…a…Muslim…and…a…terrible…man. My…brain…has…turned…to…rot…because…I…am…old.” The fun never ends!
calbear on April 27, 2008 at 7:59 PM
You see the problem is that although I don’t think that foot-in-mouth McCain actually wants 100 years of war, Iraq by no rational stretch fits the German or Japanese “model”. It doesn’t even come close. It comes much closer to the Vietnam war/occupation/whatever “model”. Therein is the problem. I suggest reading H.R. McMaster’s book “Dereliction of Duty”.

This a tactic I have seen before. Asking someone if they don’t believe in Global warming. “What are you some kind of denier or flat earther?
Same kind of show as Al, just under a different tent.

I was quoting you, i know the quote blocs were messed up. I am part of the Reagan Coalition just as much as you, snooty elitist crybaby.
Squid Shark on April 27, 2008 at 10:04 PM
It’s pretty sad and quite telling that all the Dhimms can come up with is an add based on a total lie and misquote. I just hope that McCain hits back hard, he’s got tons of material to chose from.

Kinda makes anything fair game now, doesn’t it? Whine about gutter politics and pull this, I actually predicted this on another forum 2 days ago, the Dim’s impressed me with their speed on making the prediction come true. I actually didn’t think it would happen until the Dim’s had a nominee.

Gee, do you think that the Maverick might hit on someone from the left? Judging from McCain’s history, he’ll blame the far right conservatives for creating an atmosphere of intolerance between McCain and his good friends from across the aisle.
Snake307 on April 28, 2008 at 2:03 AM
McCain looks like the Hunchback of Washington, DC in this video. Do you think he’ll have a bell tower installed in the White House.
