Minnesota Spring, Day 37: Global warming you can still shovel

Earlier this week, it almost felt like summer had arrived. The temperatures soared into the mid-70s, birds were singing, and the grass turned green. Unfortunately, the summer departed, and it looks like winter has either arrived really early or it has decided to take an encore. After two days of rain and temperatures in the mid-40s, this morning brought even cooler temperatures and changed rain to snow:

Day 37.

It’s a perfect day to interview Iain Murray about his new book, The Really Inconvenient Truths: Seven Environmental Catastrophes Liberals Don’t Want You to Know About–Because They Helped Cause Them, on the NARN broadcast today. I don’t think I could have planned this any better.

I feel your pain.

I moved to Chicago a couple of years ago, and I made the mistake of putting in my air conditioning unit back in mid April after a few days of 80s temperature. I should have known better.

The very next week we got hit with couple of inches of snow.

ColtsFan on April 26, 2008 at 10:07 AM

Its been snowing in Wyoming this week, had snow on the ground yesterday. Its definitely been a colder and wetter winter in the northwestern US.

But, lets not fall into the trap the GW proponents get into. While we know they trumpet GW anytime its hotter than normal which is not valid, a colder than normal winter doesnt mean anything either really, other than different weather patterns going on

Heh. Good one.

President McCain will fix it for you as a proponent of man-induced climate change.

The fact is they’re getting wise to that. They are starting to realize how stupid they sound talking about “global warming” when it snows in Spring or their GW conferences get snowed out. Now the buzz phrase is “Climate Change,” which basically means that any weather outside accepted norms can now be blamed on evil capitalist pigs like us.

We(MI) are supposed to get that storm Ed! I got my tan going earlier in the week, got all my closets changed from winter to spring and now I need to dig out those t-necks again! My poor flowers!

Buenos Aires and Saudi Arabia got hit with some snow this year too. Maybe the bears would like the weather there. China may have been a good choice this year too.

It’s just been good and cold most places for at least a year and a half.

But never mind that, the internationalist-socialist plans to save the world from warmth carry on, and people will starve and economies will go in the toilet.

I was mocking global warming this week because it snowed 6 more inches. A lady I work with said that in Florida they had a frosty morning. I asked her how it being COLD in Florida had anything to do with the claims that the earth was warming up.

No answer so far.

I prefer the snow of cherry blossoms, and Bradford pear and magnolia petals we’re getting in my neighborhood.

I feel a haiku coming on, I’d better stop.

Although temperatures have been dropping since 1998, governmental enviro-whacks are going to wring money out of you like a sponge. IMO, Algore should be charged with fraud and locked up in Leavenworth.

MCPO Airdale on April 26, 2008 at 10:30 AM

Thanks for the warning, Ed. Last time you said 6 inches and we got nearly three times that due to ‘lake effect’.

You’ve heard the old joke,

Here in New Hampshire, our “orricial” snowfall record at the state capitol is 2 inches shy of the alltime record set in the 1870s, about 120 inches. I am 30 miles north and 700 feet higher in elevation, and I measured 179 inches. The last pile of snow should melt today. We had the official ice-out on Lake Winnipesaukee Wednesday, which is about normal.

One would think with all that melted snow that we would have moist soil, but we have had red flag fire alerts all week, because the ground is so day!

It’s “climate change” during the winter(unless it’s an off year, and warmer than “normal”) and global warming during the summer..

Yeah, this latest episode of GW caused my oldest kid’s pre-season softball tourny to be cancelled. Wonder how the Goracle explains this one?

Oh yeah, I forgot. It’s Bush’s Fault.

Blue-eyed Infidel on April 26, 2008 at 11:28 AM

CurtZHP on April 26, 2008 at 10:12 AM

They are going even further than that and saying that short term trends of 20 to 50 years does not disprove the long term 100 plus year warming trend. They are trying to save the future generations from global warming not the current one from weather variations and everything they propose to solve the problem will not have any noticeable effect during our life times. It will be interesting because you have to remember that they have just about every egg in the UN IPCC basket but the UN is starting to edge off the bandwagon because they are finding out that the solution may be killing current populations.

jmarcure on April 26, 2008 at 11:29 AM

Oh but this spout of cold weather is due to climactic epicycles. You know, the same epicycles, wheels within wheels, that the scientific and educated believed was the model of the solar system (and the universe) for much of recorded history. That is, until Kepler came around and mathematically proved that the sun had to be at the center of the solar system.

Colder weather, especially continuing colder weather is absolute proof that man made global warming is TRUE! And you’re a heretic if you don’t agree!

Article in this morning’s paper says jumbo (7-foot) squids are now surging up the west coast, threatening salmon fisheries. The cause: GW, of course.
Also heard the Inconvenient Truth people admitted their prize shot of melting arctic ice was computer-manufactured. Any confirmation?

What’s she talking about? Frosty morning in FL? Not in the last couple of weeks anyway and I’m in North FL. Unless there’s another Florida besides the one I’m in.

Right now my thermometer is reading 92 in the shade of my back patio.

I cling to my snow-blower, I cling to my shovel, I cling to my broom. Just got in from cleaning up my driveway and steps from the 6 – 8 inches of blowing snow up here in the Park Rapids area of MN. Gonna get a couple more inches of this stuff. I thought I would be able to plant some palm trees his spring. I think someone lied to me about this global warming.

You WY guys will get a kick out of this:

Global warming has created a perfect climate for these beetles — Milder winters since 1994 have reduced the winter death rate of beetle larvae in Wyoming from 80% per year to under 10%, and hotter, drier summers have made trees weaker, less able to fight off beetles. [Picture shows forests turned red by beetle.]

New reseach published in the journal Nature, “Mountain pine beetle and forest carbon feedback to climate change,” (subs. req’d, abstract reprinted below), quantifies the current and future impact just from the beetle’s warming-driven devastation in British Columbia:

From an alarmist AGW article published in a very highly respected science journal. Hahahahahahahah … cold fusion, anybody?

I just left the comment below for Newt Gingrich at his blog.

I won’t call you stupid, your not a stupid man. You know as well as anyone that global warming is total fraud. So how much of the “action” did they cut you in for? Please tell us Newt, when we all have to start paying three times as much for energy because you sold us out, what is your percentage?

Maxx

Ouch.

Bob's Kid on April 26, 2008 at 10:10 PM

Cheer up Ed…. at least you don’t live in Anchorage.

Anchorage digs out after record snowfall

We’ve had several small earthquakes here in Missouri over the past week and Drudge is currently running a story about several slightly bigger ones out in Nevada.

I expect Al Gore will be telling us global warming causes earthquakes any day now.

Maxx on April 26, 2008 at 11:10 PM

Spent two winters in Minot N.D. (80-81)and May 31 of each of those winters we received 2-3 inches of snow. Mother Natures way of saying I am in charge and I will let you know when it it safe to go swimming.
