Video: Arms and the man

A mid-day palate cleanser dirtier, to reflect how I’m feeling after five hours at the dentist. It’s very, very obviously a fake but still just gruesome enough to warrant a reaction in the squeamish, so please observe this, your official content warning.

Gross!!!

Lance Murdock on April 25, 2008 at 3:35 PM

I’m not easily squeamish but that was gross. I didn’t even watch the whole thing.

peacenprosperity on April 25, 2008 at 3:35 PM

that was awesome!

RMC1618 on April 25, 2008 at 3:35 PM

five hours at the dentist

Holy COW Allah, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy! But I have to go back to get cavities filled… I feel your pain :(

Hmmm maybe we should drop in a bunch of dentists on Iraq and Afghanistan… just a thought thou.

upinak on April 25, 2008 at 3:35 PM

I did that once.

From the “why use a flyswatter when you can use a grenade launcher?” school of advertising.

That made me hungry… BRB.

He just wanted a Luke Skywalker arm.

Most of the major video streaming sites are filtered out here at work, so I can’t see it. Can the firewall-impaired among us get a synopsis?

wearyman on April 25, 2008 at 3:43 PM

He must of been watching the democratic debate

SoCalInfidel on April 25, 2008 at 3:43 PM

I didn’t think it was that gross, especially with the obviousness of fakery. But it just seemed really pointless. I kept wondering if anything else would happen and glancing at the time remaining.

A guy is on pavement and he starts lightly sweeping his fingers over it. After a little while apparently the skin rubs off and then he keeps on grinding and more and more skin is gone, with blood getting on the pavement. He keeps at it until half his arm is gone. (I don’t know what happened to the bone.)

He rubs his arm across the asphalt until it wears off

Can you dig it?

The point is that this guy is a conservative, and he is showing what he would rather do to his right arm than use it to pull the lever for McCain. Hee hee.

Weight of Glory on April 25, 2008 at 3:58 PM

for a palate cleanser to this palate dirtier, you can watch the video alien dancing tectonic from the same Youtube user.

wise_man on April 25, 2008 at 4:00 PM

Well, I do track days with my Subaru WRX, so the message is spot on, why I have my helmet and 4 point harness. My tax rebate is going to pay the bulk of the tab for a Nomex suit.

I read some place long ago that banging your head into concrete at more than 12 mph risked concussion besides the obvious lump, ache and angst.

IMO, some bikers need something this blunt to communicate the risks they run, so I sort of like it.

Or here’s another palate cleanser for your viewing pleasure:

Say, brother, you’re spending a lot of time at the dentist. I seem to remember you mentioning having your wisdom teeth out, and maybe even another dental episode. Wish you a healthy and happy mouth. Lucky for us you don’t type with your face.

mikeyboss on April 25, 2008 at 4:06 PM

Dude, you go to the dentist a lot.
Did you not floss when you were a kid?

That vid is pretty funny actually, considering breaking my neck or back is my biggest fear on the bike, not having my arm removed by pavement.
Worst strawberry I’ve ever seen.

SouthernDem on April 25, 2008 at 4:07 PM

Gruesome! I love it!

rockmom on April 25, 2008 at 4:09 PM

An intensely graphic message promoting wearing protective gear while riding a motorcycle.

This video doesn’t begin to convey what can happen to the human body in a motorcycle accident. Ask Law enforcement, medical folks, and wrecker drivers.

Very well done, IMO.

My favorite is seeing guys on their scoots with shorts and flipflops and no shirt.
Doing 80 on a busy highway, no less.

SouthernDem on April 25, 2008 at 4:13 PM

When I talked to my mom last weekend, she mentioned that they had a meth addict come through her hospital that was missing a few fingers because he had chewed them off. I think she mentioned that he also was involved in some sort of feces flinging incident in his hospital room. He may have been an artist from Yale.

It’s supposed to be an ad about wearing protective gear while riding a motorcycle on paved streets. It goes on to stress the abrasivenesses of pavement by showing some dude rubbing his hand and then arm on a street until it’s worn down to a stump. Strange when you consider no one slides to a stop after a bike wreck on one hand. It would have been more realistic if they had thrown him out of the back of a pick-up going 60 miles an hour going down an interstate and then shown the aftermath.

I’ve been in a couple of nasty wrecks on bikes, none of which was my fault. I only ride a dirt bike now since trees never pull out in front of me. :)

Guardian on April 25, 2008 at 4:15 PM

That was pretty gross. I try and always wear my leathers, most times I do unless it’s unbearably hot out.

Geronimo on April 25, 2008 at 4:17 PM

SouthernDem on April 25, 2008 at 4:13 PM

Give it time. Statistics will catch up to them eventually. Ever notice there are not many older bikers on the highway? I used to work at a shop in the 90’s where the owner was a member of a biking club. Originally there were 6 members. 3 are dead, one is permanently disabled and his wife made the guy sell their motorcycle after her best friend died and biking wasn’t “fun” anymore. Sad. I miss my street bike but it’s just too dangerous for me.

Recent dental work, eh?

Hey. Has anyone ever seen Allah and Lileks together?

Just askin’….

When I saw the screencap, I thought it was going to be another one of the David Blaine parodies.

It almost was one.

RobCon on April 25, 2008 at 5:27 PM

Oh, and if the dentist took five hours just to clean your palate, I think you’re getting screwed.

mikeyboss on April 25, 2008 at 5:29 PM

Don’t worry about it guys, it’s just a flesh wound.

Eric12470210 on April 25, 2008 at 5:31 PM

Considering it’s YT quality I thought it looked pretty impressive. Love to see how it looks in a higher quality vid.

The foley work was pretty gruesome too.

I’ve heard Lileks enough to know he’s a conservative. They aren’t the same people.

peacenprosperity on April 25, 2008 at 5:35 PM

Couldn’t watch it. Can’t watch any gore since I heard the story of what happened to our captured soldiers in Iraq, who were systematically dismembered while alive and fed their body parts, eyes and private parts first, while still alive.

eaglesdontflock on April 25, 2008 at 5:44 PM

Chili!

Ropera on April 25, 2008 at 6:48 PM

It makes the point that asphalt is very, very abrasive.

I’ve known riders that wore construction grade denim that fell off their bikes at 20 mph in gravel that basically tore off their pants. Denim lasts about .2 seconds at even low speeds before it’s basically gone and you’re grinding your flesh.

Ballistic nylon, like an Aerostich is better, but well fitting leathers are the best. Poor fitting leathers will tear off your skin when you land.

Asher on April 25, 2008 at 7:52 PM

You gotta hand it to him…

…and his prostate.

That’s a lot of dental work Allah. Hope you’re feeling better soon and that they can cure you of whatever it is that keeps sending you back there. It’s what, more than a year that this has been bothering you?

Zorro on April 25, 2008 at 8:52 PM

Y’know, as gross as that vid was, it DOES describe PERFECTLY exactly how this particular general election cycle feels!
