Blogger’s fantasy fulfilled: Miniature robots in laser tag shootout

Via Gizmodo. In this as in all things, the fantasy’s better than the reality, but after 8,000 posts about robots and lasers I’d be guilty of breach of contract if I didn’t blog it. Truth be told, these things are about as awesome as those pudgy little Robbie the Robot knockoffs in the Twilight Zone episode about the old lady beset by tiny aliens. (Ironic twist: The invaders are us.)
The smoke machines are a nice way to enhance the lasers, though, if perhaps a tad “80s MTV” for my taste.

lasers…pha! I say put some paintball guns on em ala a Warhammer from Battletech, then we’ll see some action! Maybe film via a nightvision camera too!

We laugh now, but within twenty years all our Air Force jockies will be sitting in LazyBoys while their machines are are pulling 10g turns over some nutjobs country. Just a matter of time before our soldiers all have tape on the bridge of their glasses and pocket protectors as standard issue.

Limerick, then said country shoots a couple satellites out of the sky and does a full spectrum radio signal pulse and all of our hardware falls from the sky and/or misses the targets. in the meantime, his oldstyle manned gear that doesn’t require GPS navigation is beating the stuffings out of us.
