Matthews: So, that “Willie Horton” ad against Obama is racist, right?

Via the ‘Busters, eagle-eyed as ever. Proof positive that newly minted Fox News fan Terry McAuliffe is right that Matthews is hip-deep in the tank for Obama? Nah. He is in the tank, to be sure, but this isn’t evidence. (This is.) Matthews’s perceptions of racial subtext in political campaigning have nothing to do with Obama or even with black candidates necessarily, although he did reach his personal nadir with what he had to say before the 2006 midterms about Michael Steele’s “almost childlike” ads. Follow that link and see how he read a spot targeting Bob Menendez that referenced “The Sopranos”. Even by the already impressive standards of the left, his paranoia is impressive, demonstrated here by the reaction of the panel to his argument. Dare I say, he’s the quintessential example of the progressive whose thinking has allegedly transcended race yet somehow seems to find racial stereotypes everywhere he looks.
Here’s the Willie Horton ad they’re talking about, in case you missed it yesterday.

Rumor has it Crissy, that your show is done after the election in November. Then you can run for Senator in Pennsylvania, get routed and join Rhandi Rhodes on that lefty 3rd world radio program schedule. Life is good.

Isn’t matthews continuing to bring it back to race really indicate he’s the racist here?
lorien1973 on April 23, 2008 at 8:40 PM
Wow, a black guy correcting Mathews on what’s kosher in the world of attack ads.
THE CHOSEN ONE on April 23, 2008 at 8:41 PM
Completely off topic–but can someone tell my why O’Reilly has a topic about teenage sex or half naked teens on EVERY SINGLE recent episode? I’m honestly starting to wonder about the chap. Tonight’s episode: Revealing Hannah Montanah internet pics.
Half the country wouldn’t have known bout the pics until now. Thanks a alot, ya buffoon.
I apologize about the off-topic post but this is getting absurd.

Why is it liberals always say it’s racist when a black man has his arm around a white woman? They truly live in a bubble!
SouthernGent on April 23, 2008 at 8:48 PM
Maybe, somebody should do a Leave Brittany Alone parody with Chrissy and Barry?
Blake on April 23, 2008 at 8:51 PM
We’ve gone from Chet Huntley and David Brinkley to Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews.
sigh
It’s literally impossible for Matthews or Olbermann to be embarassed.
Completely, utterly shameless.

“I just know the country I grew up in.”
The naked, undisguised hatred and disdain for America that liberals exhibit is maddening and bewildering.
I’d hate to be a liberal. You have to hate your own country. You have to think your own country and fellow citizens are eeevil. How in the world do they get up every morning in an eeevil racist sexist bigoted homophobic xenophobic country?
Depressing, I’d think.

In other news, MSNBC denied today in a press release that its anchor/host of “Hard Balls,” Chris Matthews, has been admonished for playing with his “Balls” during the last democratic presidential debate in Pennsylvania.
The statement went on to say:
“Mr. Matthews maintains his status as the sole host of “Hard Balls” and any leak from Mr. Matthews pants during the debate is not related in any way, shape, or form to day-dreaming or fantasizing about Mr. Obama.”
Indy Conservative on April 23, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Not even close to racist. Well, Jeremiah Wright is a racist, but drawing attention to that fact isn’t racist.
This is why the Ayers/Dohrn thing is much more effective, however. Poor Chris Matthews…what’s he gonna call the ads featuring them? Anti-professorial? Anti-spoiled white lunatic?
funky chicken on April 23, 2008 at 9:17 PM
That is disgusting. What country was that Chrissy? The same one Michelle Obama grew up in? Oh damn it all, I just read what I typed and I am such a racist.
Wade on April 23, 2008 at 9:25 PM
I can’t understand how liberals can call conservatives un-american when liberals are always the ones that put the country down…..

“the country I grew up in.”
Where did he grow up South Africa? I’m really sick of these media people telling me what a racist country this is. You can never make people get rid of their biases, prejudices, bigotry. People in eastern europe who look exactly alike to us hate each other because of their ethnicity. What you can do is legislate that their bigotry is not acted out in the public sphere. Most Americans would vote for a black candidate if he were qualified for the job and that has been seen many times for lesser offices. The problem is that once again the democrats are about to nominate an unethical, dishonest lowlife to be their candidate for pesident. Those characteristics have nothing to do with race.

Why does this guy still have a job? His numbers stink,he’s a loon, what’s the deal?
thatcher on April 23, 2008 at 9:38 PM
Well, come on guy, you just told us yourself why he passes the MSNBC litmus test. :)

MSNBC is to absolute worst perveyour of political pornography. My current IP is Verizon-MSN, this will be changing shortly. (does anyone know how to remove the MSNBC section from the MSN home page?) As with GE and NBC, MSN has joined the “bite me” list, no more of my $$$. Where there is a choice of products and services these pukes can pound sand!

Email to the useful idiot named Matthews:
Dear Sir:
Your comments about the “racist Willie Horton anti-Obama” advert betray your own inability to rise above racism and bigotry, racist and otherwise.
I guess because you have 16 honorary Phd.’s (I just have a BA and MBA, both of which I had to work for) you can feel ever so much more intelligent than the rest of us bitter folk.
I used to watch you regularly as you really did have some objectivity. The tingle in your leg was the final straw.
Racists can find racism wherever they look. Bigots don’t need a reason to hate. The facts don’t matter and actually get in the way. Twana Bradley, Chris?
That’s the essence of why “progressives” are so attuned to the faintest of nuance to counter any arguement against them with “racist”, “sexist”, “—-ist” dismissals. Because they have no facts or the facts are against them.
Your trooper Obama and Gibson talking about marginal tax rates on capital gains is a CLASSIC. Poor Barry couldn’t let the facts get in the way of his schooling at the feet of Wright and others.
I fear a President who cannot learn from the real world. You think Bush is such a man, and he has screwed up badly IMO, but the blase and committed blindness of Barry O exceeds Bush’s.
The Phd’s came without effort on your part. They mean nothing. Don’t drink your own Kool-Aid.
Harry Schell on April 23, 2008 at 10:15 PM
I think Mathews, better than anyone, knows the history of race, racism, segregation and the Democrat party.
tarpon on April 23, 2008 at 10:37 PM
Where else but in America can a young lad start one day buying 12-packs and tipsy taxi fares for Tip O’Neill and the next be the barking and drooling host of the lowest-rated show on MSNBC!
What a country!
TexasJew on April 23, 2008 at 10:44 PM
A complete hack that is only taken seriously by loon’s equal to only his own looniness.
Hog Wild on April 23, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Well, Kieth Olbermann is a huge fan of Matthews.
wise_man on April 24, 2008 at 12:09 AM
Good ole Chris Matthews, Keith Olberdouche and Ted Baxter of the old Mary Tyler Moore show. Legends in their own minds. They’re pretentious nitwits to a tee. BTW, Chris needs to double up on the Ritalin. He’s wound up too tight.

That ad is not racist. No more racist than Michelle Obama saying her husband couldn;t even get gas without taking his life into his hands (leaving out the fact that he was likely to be killed by another black man).
ctmom on April 24, 2008 at 7:49 AM
The fortunate thing is, Chrissy is preaching to the choir, his views will only tantalize the already off-center bozos that are doomed to avoid fairness and common sense at every turn. Let him splooge down his leg for Obama, the only ones watching are already disciples.
I do hope he runs for office and a black candidate opposes him as that would be sooooooo delicious to watch him tap dance around that….
