Mmmm, that’s good Earth Day. Swiped from the boss, with whom I have to quibble on one point: She says Gingrich can no longer be counted on to defend free-market environmentalism but he’s been all for market solutions in his most high-profile statements on this subject in the past and, judging from his website, still is. Watch this snippet from his debate with Kerry last year to see what he prescribes for inducing developing nations towards conservation. Al Gore clutching Hu Jintao’s sleeve and whimpering “please?” with tears in his eyes doesn’t factor in.

The end of the world is near……
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 22, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Ummm. We can solve what exactly? Please tell me Newt doesn’t think we can alter the temperature of planet earth.
Zetterson on April 22, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Newt is tool of the Gorebot…..he has been assimilated.
omnipotent on April 22, 2008 at 1:35 PM
Newt is signaling defeat on the issue, since its so hard to explain to moderates anyway and convince them you don’t hate the earth, basic economics, the propaganda of it, etc. and signaling getting on board with the green machine, except to try to push for actual market ’solutions’ vs. what the dems want.
Newt’s not a watermelon, but the Dems are.
jp on April 22, 2008 at 1:35 PM
Forget the content….that commercial was just awkward to watch. Neither one of them seemed too natural, but, Pelosi’s speech was ridiculously stilted. It would drive me crazy if she spoke to me like that.

Newt is A tool………but you folks here at HA already knew that.

I feel torn on the Global Warmism debate. Efficiency is a fantastic thing, as is finding new sources of energy. But the apocalyptic religious belief that we’re saving the planet takes the fun right out of it.
AbaddonsReign on April 22, 2008 at 1:36 PM
I am repulsed by this validation Newt has just handed her. What a sell-out.

Nancy looks so gleeful. She’ll solve climate change by raising our taxes, out of fairness, so no one will $$$ for gas or other forms of energy. Then, and only then, everyone will be forced to take gubmint healf care.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 22, 2008 at 1:39 PM
I can’t understand why smart people fell for scams. This is another reason why critical thinking skills are important.
jdun on April 22, 2008 at 1:40 PM
Whether he believes in the Great Global Warming Swindle or not, politically, taking a position like Newt did is safe. Non-believers are not going to punish Gingrich politically for participating in this nonsense.
The same goes for Speaker Pelosi, it’s politically safe to do this.
Weebork on April 22, 2008 at 1:40 PM
That crap came on my TV last night ..I almost threw up as I changed the channel. I will never let my remote get farther than a few feet from my clinging grasp. Friggin politicians they are all the same.
redrock on April 22, 2008 at 1:40 PM
I’d rather Newt not do this.
Newt’s participation implies there are man-made solutions to climate change issues which can be imposed / led / implemented by government.
The Pelosi types out there won’t see her participation as recognition that any response must consider economic impact as well as climate change; their narrative will be “see, even a zealot right-winger like Gingrich knows you conservative whack-jobs are wrong about this.”
BD57 on April 22, 2008 at 1:41 PM
We’re the ones who’ve been sold out.
Global warming means only one thing to me: Higher taxes.
fossten on April 22, 2008 at 1:41 PM
Newt’s been infected with the virus called environmentalism. It seems to be an acute case now, but without treatment could become radical.
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 22, 2008 at 1:42 PM
Two things: Higher taxes and regulation on behavior. Hello fascism!
Zetterson on April 22, 2008 at 1:43 PM
I see a major problem politically with trying to influence some segments of the conservative base to drink the green kool-aide. They are too smart and perceptive, they know at its core the issue is a fraud and a socialist conspiracy and resent being called anti-environment while the truth of the issues and the whole liberty thing are ignored.. Trying to convince this block to ignore the issue, support candidates like McCain and so forth is about like trying to convince the evangelical pro-life wing to give up the abortion issue, accept Roe and try to push policies that “reduce” abortions since overturning Roe isn’t feasible.
the larger problem is the media, somehow it must be taken over.
jp on April 22, 2008 at 1:44 PM
How much was he paid? I knew the guy was a tool, his just proves it.
Its ALL about money folks, he is just getting his.
TroubledMonkey on April 22, 2008 at 1:44 PM
What they don’t say is the way they would like to solve the non-existent “problem” is dynamically opposed.
Newt wants to build nuclear power plants…. which I’m all for…. global warming or no global warming.
Pelosi wants to hand the country over to the U.N. and the IPCC and destroy America’s sovereignty over tax policy and our economy in the process. Typical Democrat.
Newt’s approach is very dangerous… we are much better off simply denouncing global warming for the fraud it clearly is.
Maxx on April 22, 2008 at 1:44 PM
Hey there, good buddies Newt and Nancy,
Got any plan for other industrialized nations on the planet? Hmm…What’s that? I can’t hear you. Got any plan for China, India or Russia? How much money will we, United States taxpayers, be forced to give as an offering before the altar of the United Nations?
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 22, 2008 at 1:45 PM
Earth day is one of the few days that forces liberals to be happy. They have to be happy, because they get to spend the whole day blaming others for destroying X, which today happens to be the planet.
As if every other day out of the year nobody cares about the environment?
Weebork on April 22, 2008 at 1:45 PM
My wife just ran over the recycle bin I left in the driveway (I forgot..ok…just plain forgot to bring it in).

It’s disgusting to look at, but it’s how Congress works. You’ll never get a chance to steer the bandwagon if you never get on the bandwagon. What someone on the right can do is push all the things that create energy independence and security, and fight all those things that just hobble the economy with no benefit. If you want to steer the bus, you can’t do it from the sidewalk.

He says he’s all for free market solutions (as Allah notes), but then in the ad says “demand actions by our leaders”. Unless he’s talking about market leaders, that sounds a little government-solutiony to me.

Why can’t some Republicans understand that if they are in the presence of Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi, and Harry and/or Nancy is smiling, the Republican is being successfully conned?
The Harriet Meyers nomination is just one example, this is another.
Gore-bull Warming is a hoax manufactured to create more votes for the Democratic Socialists.
Newt, you lost any remaining credibility you may have had with me.

No
Please No. And aren’t we talking about Global Warming being a farce? Why would we opt for the guy who pledged to tax carbon emissions?
Zetterson on April 22, 2008 at 2:03 PM
Gingrich has always been an 80-20 type of politician, who comes up with loopy ideas or supports causes that fit more with his opponents about 20 percent of the time. And those drive conservatives up the wall. But then he’ll get in a few good soundbites against Democratic programs in general or politicians like Obama or Hillary, or Pelosi in particular, and for most folks out there, all will then be forgiven and you’ll see tons of “Newt’s my hero” type posts on this and other boards.
Newt is what he is, a politician who has a tone of ideas, a lot of them either contradictory or ones where the consequences are not very well thought through. Take the good when it comes, but like other politicians, including George W. Bush and John McCain, don’t be so shocked when he pulls a stunt like this, because he’s been doing it regularly for the past 15 years.

I’m hoping maybe Newt’s found a way to profit from the green fearmongering and he’ll pop out in 2012 saying “look, I’ve funded a whole presidential campaign using Greeny guilt!”
I think I’m going to be sadly disappointed.

Man Made Global warming is junk science at its best. However, some of the “solotions” would be good.
1) Build more nuclear plants, safest from of energy around, and a lot more efficient then they used to be.
2) Cut back on coal power plants. They are dangerouse to the envirement and I hear 20K people a year die from coal related diseasees.
3) More electric type cars. With plentiful nuclear power these are no brainers.
4) Develop more alternatives to petroleum based fuels. Bio-gas lokos promissing, as long as it does not decrease our food production.
Just those 4 items would decrease our depandance on foreign oil, help the envirement, save lives, and clean up the atmosphere (at least until the polution form china blows its way over here).

I agree with The Boss (not Springsteen, MM)
This is why you cant trust Newt if your a conservative. I remember when he had that debate with Al Gore and as Rush said, it was “sad” to watch Newt cowtow and kiss Al Gore’s ass and not agree with much of conservative thought on this subject.
With his personal life and lousy predictions and on and on, Newt has given conservatives significant reservations about getting behind him.

Here’s my solution to the problem that isn’t-build 1000 nuclear power plants (using the aid money that we now send overseas and to the UN) in the US that run 100,000 atmospheric compressors that turn the free CO2 into liquid. Break the C-O bond, and then bond the Carbon with Hydrogen, ie produce hydrocarbons to fuel our SUVs.

This just proves that the GOP establishment has given up on the global warming debate, and I can understand why - once a bad idea takes hold in the electorate at large, there’s no point in trying to shift it. You can only hope to do damage control. Like it or not, most Americans do believe that humans are responsible for global warming and that we should do something. Hopefully, that “something” can be free-market-based.

Thanks for answering the request for a link. I can’t watch You Tube in my present location, but will watch it later. Is this from his Presidential campaign or his time as Governor?
Thank you. I appreciate that.
The text you provide for your first quote is perfectly acceptable and only refers to being a good steward.
Your second quote is somebody else telling me what Huckabee believes, so that does not count as a quote from him.
In the past I would have referred you to Huckabee’s policy pages on the issues (which were awesome), but now any link to mikehuckabee.com redirects to huckpac.com (to support other conservative candidates).
As you all know, Mike Huckabee himself has withdrawn from the race. It’s not Mike Huckabee telling me that he will be the next POTUS. That message comes from a higher authority. I know that puts me in the category of “lunatic” to some of you, but consider the following:
1) It wouldn’t be the first time God, who is the alpha and the omega, and who sees the beginning and the end, has given a prophecy to an average God-loving and God-fearing man.
2) It takes “Malkins” to say what I am saying when no Earthly power believes Huckabee will be the next POTUS. Think about it, if this prophecy were to not come true, at best I would never be able to “show my face”, so to speak, on Hot Air again. At worst, someone might try to deliver the Old Testament punishment for a false prophet (stoning). I don’t make that statement about Huckabee lightly.
3) When Mike Huckabee does become the next POTUS, know that it was foretold, know that it was by God’s power, not man’s power, and give glory to God.

Big Business is pushing this hoax too because if they can get expensive regulations put in place they don’t have to worry about any new start up competition. Have you watched any of the Discovery Channel’s programming lately?
As always, follow the money, but the personnel assigned to cover Climate Change are true believers. It’s like the Crocodile Hunter. The people are extremely passionate about their objectives. What are the objectives? To come as close to staring death in the face without having the viewers review their claims.
You’ll see dozen’s of programs every day that report they are staring at death in the form of a melting glacier.
Look at the Goracle himself. All these countless millions spent on research, advertising, films, pundits, fellows, interns, media hasn’t even met the expectations of the Goracle himself. Their message just isn’t getting through to any other demographic besides the College causites desperate to attach their names to something relevant.
Climate Change is already a religion. You can’t change this now. It’s now a belief structure that requires massaging until it finds its balance.
