Sugar mommy? From the party of feminists?

Allahpundit noted earlier the first attack ad from David Brock and his Progressive Media USA, the $40 million attack project for Democrats against Republicans. What did all that money buy? A lame Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous parody tweaking John McCain for marrying a rich woman, complete with a very bad Robin Leach accent. Take another look at the ad and ask yourself what Brooks et al see as McCain’s major sin:

McCain had the temerity to marry a strong, successful woman without feeling somehow emasculated by it. Now pardon this child of the 70s, but I recall hearing feminists castigate men for feeling threatened by successful women. The patriarchy supposedly oppressed women because they feared losing economic power over their spouses. I believe the exact allegation was that Men keep women barefoot and pregnant, and in the kitchen.

Men who didn’t feel threatened by successful women were supposedly enlightened. Men who allowed women to control their own fortunes were supposedly the most enlightened. Now Democrats want to haul out the chauvunistic taunt of “kept man” and “sugar mommy” against McCain for having been enlightened enough to do both?

Wow. That takes some …. nerve.

This is how politics is today. Kerry was mocked for this, so now that the Republicans have a candidate in the same position, the Democrats strike back.

I think its a trojan horse. They bring it up to bring to voters mind that John McCain isnt just the war hero but he is also the dude that divorced his wife for gaining weight so he could marry a younger babe with dough. It will help their cause. And if you dont like fleas, you shouldnt nominate a dog.

Nice use of my song in that video though.

mikeyboss on April 22, 2008 at 5:32 PM

But this is somehow completely different than when Obama was making peanuts as a ‘community organizer’ and a wannabe author while his wife was paying all the bills by pulling in 6 figures as a lawyer and hospital bigwig?

Dems living off wives’ money (Kerry and Obama) = enlightened pro-women role models. But John McCain is living off a ’sugar mommy’? This is incoherent at best.

Vote Sauron 08 on April 22, 2008 at 5:35 PM

This is just yet another example of one of the stranger but universal truths of progressivism: they are always the first to violate all their own supposed principles.

They are now almost constantly racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, anti-gay, and even anti-environment … when it suits their purposes.

It’s pretty amusing to watch – since no conservative would do the things liberals constantly do … the things liberals claim to be against by definition.

Just sit back and enjoy the hypocrisy.

Professor Blather on April 22, 2008 at 5:37 PM

The Dems faulted George Bush for avoiding service in Vietnam – but had no problem with the same from Bill Clinton. Now with John McCain, who served in Vietnam to a degree that I would wish on very few people, it’s wrong for him to have a very rich wife, although the Dems had no problem with Kerry’s very rich wife. At least the Dems are consistent with their inconsistencies.

Feminism and all that crap aside, which warm-blooded male, regardless of his politics, or anything else, would have said “nah, I’ll pass”?

What do you expect from a party that champions genocide in Iraq and defends Obama’s 20 year relationship with his “mentor” and “spiritual advisor” the racist reverend Wright.

This is the same party with their feminist activists that defended Bill Clinton’s affairs for years and called Hillary
a strong women for standing by her man after he got caught… and got caught….and got caught…etc. with other women.

This is the same party that condemned Trent Lott as a racist but holds up Klan wizard senator Byrd as a leader.

This is the same party that calls Delay corrupt but idolizes Ted Kennedy who left a woman to drown while he
left to sleep off his buzz and get his story straight with his lawyer.

This is the same party that says we started a war for profit in part because of Dick Chaney’s association with Haliburton which he left the board of before running as VP,but Obama’s association with terrorist Ayers and a racist preacher that says America deserved 9/11 is a “distraction”.

This is a party that says we can’t let our “babies” and “children” die in this “war for oil” while they fight like mad to kill unborn children here.

and so on….and so on….and so on…

The hypocrisy from the left is staggering and easily noted
by anyone paying attention.

The only thing consistent with liberals is that they will
say and do anything for power.

Baxter Greene on April 22, 2008 at 5:56 PM

Obviously this right winged, male chauvinist pigs intention was to take all her money and then make her barefoot and pregnant.

conservnut on April 22, 2008 at 5:58 PM

Consider this:
1) Hillary will most likely lose the Dem nomination.
2) Net result: a large number of disenfranchised female voters (some of which even qualify as militant feminists).
3) Now how do you suppose that these bitter female voters will react as the Democrats launch their attacks on Cindy McCain?

Is this ad an attempt to counter the charge that Barry is elitist? It’s going to be mighty hard to do that with Johnny Mac. I really don’t get it (particularly with the champagne wishes and caviar dreams theme). Why would Robin Leach (or his poor impersonator) criticize the very people he’s fawning over?

I get the specious and intellectually lazy charge that people with money can’t possibly have solutions for people who don’t, but the rest is like a Comedy Channel parody, so what’s the point and who is the target audience? Small town Americans who will be bitter to learn that Mac isn’t living on his military pension?

I don’t think I ever mocked Kerry for that. I only thought of it as traitorous that Mrs Heinz would marry a conservative senator & then a very liberal one.

In case no one has asked this, is the point of this video that McCain got his money the same way John Kerry did?

Sort it out anyway you like, at least McCain isn’t living in a $2.6 million house that he could only pay $1.6million for (and only after someone got the seller to divide the lot, a friend bought then abandoned the new parcel, and somehow a $300,000 discount on the house mysteriously materialized).

And almost as important, McCain’s wife didn’t get a 195% raise (from ~$130k to ~$315k/yr; does anyone really know why?), which, coincidentally, mysteriously slightly predates a $1million pork award to the wife’s employer? Did McCain ever arrange such an award?

Maxx on April 22, 2008 at 7:27 PM

I got the impression from the ad that the point was McCain was living a luxurious life, and that he was wrong on current economic trends.

But at lease he doesn’t owe someone (who’s currently on trial for . . .?) for his house.

Someone here mentioned the word “elite”:

Teresa Heinz Kerry’s family was part of an elite and often brutal ruling class in Mozambique. If she or her father would have cared more about the people of that country than their “way of life” (swimming pools, maids, the Clube Naval in Maputo) they would have stayed.

Teresa Heinz Kerry is painted as an altruistic woman who came from a background of helping the poor. Nothing could be further from the truth. Teresa Heinz Kerry was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and was a part of an often brutal Portuguese ruling class in Mozambique.”

Is this the same Theresa Heinz Kerry? How much of the quote (and the information on the website) is true? The same be cannot said about McCain’s wife.

Who, of McCain’s friends/creditors are on trial for the things for which Rezko is being tried?

From tidbits I’ve read, Cindy Hensley McCain has doubled the size of the company since the passing of her father. And ummm, how many heirs do that – male or female?

Cindy McCain is a very accomplished woman, beautiful, well traveled, and puts her energy to work for her charitible foundation, and still manages the company. The fact she chose John McCain for a life partner and has dealt with his being in Washington D.C. while her life in Phoenix has been to raise the children and control a very successful company says a great deal about both of them. Sacrifices are nothing new to this couple.

I’m delighted she does know which fork to use without prompting. She’ll do well in promoting the image of the vibrant women of the U.S.A.. I’ve said from the beginning of the campaign that I couldn’t see McCain in the White House. But, I could see her there and she will make a great First Lady.

Theresa’s wealth was/is not the issue. She is older, and looks like a sugar-mommy. Also, he’d married rich before, Theresa had lost two rich husbands before, one of which was a doctor, and the other a filthy rich conservative businessman and politician, I believe senator from PA. Theresa was a user, and so is John Francois.

Mrs. McCain is considerably younger, and all other mentioned before, and her money is shielded from her husband.

But Grow Fins, we fully agree on those strange women in Texas, at the poligamist ranch, in case you didn’t read my agreement with you this morning.
