Couldn’t agree more with your post. We as a nation were fortunate to have George Bush as President during these trying times. The constant barrage of media attacks may have lowered his approval ratings but did not effect his convictions. Thank you President Bush for honorably serving your country!

Faced with the difficulty of recruiting during a long and unpopular war, the United States Marine Corps has started marketing itself to women in a concerted way for the first time. It is running ads in magazines like Shape, Self and Fitness, which appeal mainly to female readers, as well as through more mainstream outlets like “American Idol,” where the message is a unisex one of patriotism rather than macho swagger. The campaign is a big departure for the Marine Corps, which started accepting women for clerical duties in 1918 but until last year advertised to them only fitfully. Women are not the only ones being courted specifically. The Marines Corps is reaching out to Latinos with ads in La Raza [Spanish for "The Race" Hey, maybe they can advertise in "Der Volk" too? No wait, what was I thinking, Germans gave that kind of racial dominance and expansionism stuff up decades ago.] newspaper that emphasize family and honor (“Each unit in the Corps is a family, and each member knows they never stand alone”), and to Arab-Americans with a message about nationality and identity (“I am American. I am Arab. I am a Marine ... I know where I stand”). [Now this seems rather disturbing to me, as I think that it should be, "I am an American. I am a Marine." During my time in the Army I did not say. "I am an American. I am Germanic. I am a Soldier".] Given the drum beat of bad news from the lingering conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, where American military casualties recently topped 4,000, the sell can be a tough one.

Conservatives like myself have often complained about Dubya. But compared to McCain, Hillary, or Obama; George W. Bush looks like George Washington.

I beg your pardon. But compared to most of our recent Presidents, and all the Presidential candidates currently in the race, George W Bush IS George Washington. He is a Man who did what was right, what his conscience told him to do, and what American values insisted upon as reasoned, honorable conduct, in every turn of the world’s screw.

George W Bush is about the only Man in our government who did what he did because it was the right thing for him to do, and not the thing some pollster told him would win votes. You can’t lead the American people out of harms’ way if you have to wait on the American people to come to a consensus on the best way to respond to a crisis. It will be over and done with (with the worst possible results) long before their minds are made up.

George Washington didn’t want to be President any longer than the country truly needed him. And W doesn’t want the Office of the Presidency one second longer than he has to be there, but he won’t quit until his tenure is over on the last second of the last day of his second term.

That is what happens when a Man who understands Duty and Honor is our Leader. He Leads.

Press on, Sir. The rest of us are STILL following you.

Not that anyone would expect him to be booed under the circumstances but it’s still a bit of a shock to hear what a warm reception he gets. When was the last time he was greeted this enthusiastically? The 2004 convention?

It’s a gameshow. I’m sure the audience was primed with some free giveaway . . . a gameshiow stimulus package, if you will.
