Did you notice that McCain beats Barry with black voters (albeit by one point 50/49)?

But Barry has 75% of “other” (i.e. not black, white, or hispanic).

This attempt at slight-of-hands is so ham-fisted; it’s beneath a 5year old.

Yet Mayor Villaraigosa and Police Chief Bratton continue to deny any race divide between blacks and hispanics.

I glad to see you’ve been a proud citizen of the Peoples Republic, I still live in Mass. and have for the better part of 50 years (I spent a few on the left coast in the late 70’s) By green I did mean $$$ not Irish, as for the segregation, I will agree with the astute observation regarding first generation self-segregation. I am generation 0.5, my mother emigrated from Eastern Europe as did my fathers parents. I was exposed to this self-segregation and found it was more a function of common lanagauge and culture and not imposed by outside influence. As my generation matured the needs for the self-segregated community dissolved, we were brought up to be Americans and to embrace the culture and values of the United States and not (insert ethnic group of choice) I am a product of the true melting pot and very proud of that.

I hope you live in the Commonwealth. My observations show the majority of segregation is driven by economic factors and not race. I have lived in several communities in Massachusetts and have found that “Green” is the color that divides!

I lived there for 25 years, in about 7 towns starting in Cambridge. I recall reading one kid growing up in Roxbury say she couldn’t believe that whites were actually the majority race in this country. I think you mean Green=money, but if you are talking about Irish, there is a lot of animosity between them and Blacks also.

Anyway, its more than just money. Its also churches and who you are just comfortable being around without having to constantly be rethinking yourself. There are real differences in body language, etc., between cultures and that takes a long time to blend out. My wife is first generation Korean, and that group is highly self-segregated, and it has nothing to do with economics.

This is the same poll that has McCain taking 50% of the black vote to Obama’s 49%.

That poll makes absolutely no sense. If 3 percent of the 546 people were black, that means 15, 16, 17 people at the most. It weird enough that McCain gets 50% of their votes, but how can “1%” be undecided when 1 frickin voter is 6% of the total for the sub-group?????

Statistics is all about probabilities. They aren’t necessarily reporting a breakdown of which percentage of respondants answered in a particular way, but, rather, how the general population would likely answer–within some acceptable error range–based on the responses of the sample that they have.

So 73% of hispanic respondants didn’t necessarily say yes to McCain over Obama. That was likely calculated based on responses from the sample, party self identification of the respondants, party registration in the areas sampled, etc.

If you look to the left of the screen, there is an option to look at actual numbers, instead of percentages. When you pick that option, it says 9 for Obama, 9 for McCain, and 0 undecdied. Apparently there is a glitch in the software that they use for calculating percentages. You’re right, you really can’t have 1% of 3% of 546; that wouldn’t even be a half of a person…

There’s more than you think. Massachusetts is highly segregated, so there are areas that are almost all Black. Overall it is 6.9% vs 12.8 for the US. But that survey is only 3% Black and yet is 16% percent Republican, so they must have been polling in heavily Republican areas to find that many.
