Rep. Sue Myrick: Revoke Carter’s passport
posted at 11:10 pm on April 17, 2008 by Allahpundit
It’s never going to happen, although I do like her line at the end about pulling federal funding from his think tank.
Look at it this way: If you stop him from meeting with dictators, all you’re really doing is silencing the voice of oppressed peoples.

Exactly, it would involve Condi actually showing a spine toward Hamas.

The passport should have been pulled before he left the States…..and it could have been done with reasonable action.

This is way off topic, but I was turned off by how non-Southern Sue Myrick’s accent is. Can’t she take Hilary’s class in how to speak Southern? There is a virtue in faking it.

Hamas has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization. By Condoleeza Rice.

Please for the love of God, revoke his passport.
wise_man on April 17, 2008 at 11:31 PM
legitimizing Hamas by the hard left makes sense if you think about it. They are one of the primary terrorist groups Saddam was funding, and as we all know now Saddam was a saint of a dictator.

Give him a bag of peanuts, two or three Billy’s Beers, and tell him he can never, ever return to the USA.

Carter needs to keep his scope to Habitat for Humanity, this “peace” thing is just not his strong point. I’m trying to be charitable here.

Meh. Stupid.
Besides, he doesn’t “legitimize them”, so much as delegitimize himself.

He’s just over there trolling for funding.

then no one will care anymore..

I think that is a self inflicted syndrome
William Amos on April 18, 2008 at 12:51 AM
More boobery…
He’s already delegitimized himself a long time ago and he DOES “legitimize” them by lending his stature as a former U.S President to their terrorist cause. This sends the message to all other douchebags that if they blow up enough people then they can get an audience with a U.S. President.

Upon his return “home” take him into protective custody, schedule a Mental Status Evaluation and then put him in a home such that cause and effect are in plain view.

Funny…
It is fine for the Israeli government to talk to these guys… but somehow a former President with a long standing history or successfully brokering peace agreements between Arabs and Israelis (the only one)should somehow be sanctioned for talking to the elected government of the Palestinian people… I know it rubs you saddos the wrong way… but eat it.

WHY THIS IS SO VERY VERY VERY VERY WRONG!!!
Americans have a wonderful quality. It is called “respect”. They respect each others rights. They respect freedom of speech and respect their elders. Well, at least that’s the ideal.
Anyway, this imperative to respect is clearly demonstrated in the way America hallows its former presidents. In Britain, we give titles to our elder statesfolk. Margaret Thatcher is a Baroness and I’m certain that Tony Blair will receive a knighthood, but once they’ve retired or lost office they are just plain old ordinary citizens. They carry no official status as “Former Prime Minister Blair”.
In America, former presidents retain some status. Sometimes they are even referred without the qualifying epithet “Former”.
This is a mark of respect for the man, but perhaps more so for the hallowed office of president. It carries with it, the expectation that a former president will conduct himself with the dignity incumbent with that office.
Why? Because former Presidents are STILL representing the office of US President. They are representing America. This works fine in principle. Even Bill Clinton affected an air of dignity when working with George Bush senior on the Katrina & Tsunami funds.
Sadly, in the case of US President Carter, we see where it can break down.
Former presidents have no mandate from the US electorate, yet they are still there representing America.
So when Jimmy Carter lay that wreath on Arafat’s grave he wasn’t there as a retired peanut farmer or even as a lopsided author. He was doing it as a Head of State.
It was former “US President Carter” up there honouring the dead terrorist. To the watching media and “dignitaries” it was the President of America. It was somehow “America at last paying respect to Arafat”.
Bearing in mind the cause of Arafat’s death, perhaps it would have been better for Mrs Carter to have knitted a quilt.
Diplomatically, Carter’s continuing status is a huge problem. You just can’t have a rogue elephant treading over US foreign policy. You can’t have the office of president being abused to legitimise terrorists.
And if, by virtue of his former office, Carter is representing America then it’s not just Peanut out there meeting, hugging and negotiating with psychopaths. It is every American out there with him. Like it or lump it. In fact, as taxpayers, you funded it too.
Something needs to be done. If the Logan Act has no balls, then Carter’s actions prove that new legislation is needed.
In Britain our Queen manages to NEVER make a political statement – even despite the obvious sour looks that cross her face when she has to dance or dine with a dictator from some far flung corner of the former Empire. Even despite her legendary hatred of Thatcher.
I am not suggesting that former presidents be gagged. It would be an act of monumental cruelty to stop any American from opening their big mouth and sounding off about something. No offence.
But if any future former official was to make a political point, they should first formally rescind any official status. Including the right to refer to themselves as “President” or “former president” in any printed or spoken word. Carter would be out there as “former farmer” Carter.
My last point now – may I appeal to Michelle if she is reading this, to use and abuse her position to organise (or at least urge from behind the scenes) a “reception committee” to meet President Carter and tell him what Americans think of him.
If nothing else, a huge demonstration at Dulles Airport will make the news across the world and undo some of the damage caused by that evil geriatric old fart.
How about it, America. Tell the world “No Jimmy – not in my name”

I’m OK with the Arafat thing. President Carter knew Arafat. He met with him many times during the peace negotiations. So, if he wants to lay a wreath at the grave of someone he knew, that’s OK and, since Arafat was the de facto head of the Palestinian state, it’s probably appropriate.
Hamas, on the other hand, is a different story entirely. He did not know them. He did not meet them during his presidency. He has not been president for decades. He has zero political power. There can only be one reason Hamas wants to meet with him: To use him as a propaganda tool. The former president should have enough self-respect not to allow himself to be used in such a manner.
Kafir on April 18, 2008 at 8:35 AM

He’ll need it to emigrate.

I grew up in Charlotte and Myrick was our Mayor for a time before going to Congress. I never voted for her because her personal life was a mess and I felt she was a RINO… she was also an Amway salesman and thus (to me) sleazy.
HOWEVER! If this is the new Sue Myrick, then ALL IS FORGIVEN. Finally, someone is saying what needs to be said. She’s very brave. Sue for VP!
Gartrip on April 18, 2008 at 8:48 AM
Former Presidents also are supposed to respect the tradition of not criticizing a sitting President, something the last two Dem Presidents have blatantly and unabashedly forsaken.
You never heard Reagan, Gerald Ford, or GHW Bush criticize any sitting President after they left office.
If Carter isn’t going to respect the office and keep his trap shut while Bush is in office, he doesn’t deserve any respect as a former President.
Furthermore, his going to talk with Hamas IS an act of treason. He may be immune to prosecution, but is he immune to criticism just because he’s a former President?
fossten on April 18, 2008 at 8:51 AM
That’s what’s particularly sad about being a Republican voter, and why I no longer consider myself a party man (really, I haven’t for years). Sue Myrick is saying exactly what I’m feeling, but I can’t tell anymore if she (and the other R’s that finally have found spines) is doing it because that’s the way she really feels, or if she’s doing it score political points.
How sad.

As much pleasure as it would give me to see it happen, I really don’t think pulling Carter’s passport would be the right thing to do. But by all means yank the federal funding from any group that he’s connected to.
Rip Ford on April 18, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Why do the politicians with the biggest balls seem , in a lot of cases,to be female? Carter has proven without a doubt he does not have the best intersts of our country at heart when he is kissing the ass of our enemies. It just shows how empty and cowardly our politicians have become to allow funds from American taxpayers to pay for these treasonous acts.
volsense on April 18, 2008 at 11:01 AM
Let him keep his passport. He’s a walking commercial for conservatism. Rev. Wright, Jackson, Sharpton, Hernandez all perform a valuable function for conservatives because they’re all identify with Democrats.
Hamas can’t get anymore evil than they already are, so there’ no real damage Carter can do. What conservatives should be doing is comparing Carter to Obama and Hillary.

“Revoke his oxygen.”…I had something a little different in mind, but nevermind.
I’m wondering just what Hamas has in mind with this move. Has Jimmah renounced his Christian faith or will they tolerate his ‘infidelity’ as long as he supports Hamas and thumbs his nose at the US and any other country who identifies Hamas as a terrorist organization.
His wife looks like she’s ready to croak; maybe he told her that she had to help him lay that wreath or he was going to sell her to the leader of Hamas.”One false move sweetie…’
Christine on April 18, 2008 at 12:00 PM
Y’all got to think this through….
It may not do any good to yank his port…
Suppose we do… he’d just go down to Mexico and cross the desert or river and join the millions who are in this county illegally… he might get shot in the butt trying to make it back before he gets arrested and make millions taking the border patrol officers to court and they’d end up in jail….
What the heck… I say we chance it…

In an October 13, 2004 New York Sun article entitled “Mystery Surrounds Kerry’s Navy Discharge,” reporter Thomas Lipscomb asserted that in all probability, Sen. John F. Kerry originally received a less-than-honorable discharge from the United States Naval Reserve — a discharge that was only upgraded to honorable after President Carter’s 1977 executive order proclaiming a presidential amnesty for Vietnam War resisters.

right2bright on April 18, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Carter capitalizes on the fact that the average American doesn’t fully understand the history of Israel and why the Jewish people are the rightful owners to the land. The land of Israel was the birthplace of the Jewish people. Here their spiritual, religious and national identity was formed. Israel first became a nation in 1312 B.C. two thousand years before the rise of Islam! However, in 586 BC, Israel was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, king of ancient Babylon. The cities of Israel were demolished and the people of Israel were taken captive, many as slaves. Many Jews were killed or expelled; however some were allowed to remain. Over the next 500 years they resettled, and rebuilt the nation of Israel, only to have the Roman Empire march through Israel and destroy them for a SECOND time, slaughtering or driving out much of its Jewish population. That was the final blow, in the year 70 when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the Jewish people were scattered among the nations. Even so, thousands upon thousands stayed and rebelled on for centuries in order to once again rebuild a Jewish nation in this Holy Land. And amazingly it happened on May 14, 1948 – when the Jewish people dispersed to the ends of the earth, nearly two thousand years later, re-gathered to their homeland and re-established as a nation. Truth is, there has never been a civilization or a nation referred to as “Palestine” and the very notion of a “Palestinian Arab nation” having ancient, historical, attachments to the Holy Land is one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated upon the world! A mighty Jewish empire extended over this entire area before the Arabs — and their Islam — were even born! But, Carter doesn’t tell you that. He starts off in 1948 like it was the first time Jews ever entered the land.
apacalyps on April 18, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Oh, and PS, everything I posted above was predicted to happen by the Bible. Every last bit.
‘For I (God) will take you (Jews) from among the nations and gather you out of all lands, and will gather you into your own land’. Ezekiel 36:24.
References concerning the regathering of Israel are numerous!

And what was Carter’s top priority when he took office?
HotAir readers in the Great State of Massachusetts: please tell John Kerry that you expect him to sign Standard Form 180, allowing the release of all his military records. If he is not willing to do that, he should not even run for re-election to the Senate.
Red Pill on April 18, 2008 at 1:05 PM
Good work, apacalyps. By every possible rule of law the Jews have full legal right to every inch of Israel-whether by conquest, as the spoils of war, by United Nations (FWIW) decree, etc. I’ve mentioned before on these pages that the hatred against the Jews is spiritual in nature, as they are evidence of the existence of God. Without God, there would be no Jews, so the world works backwards, trying to erase God by first getting rid of the evidence. As you’ve obviously read your Bible, you know how well that turns out.
Doug on April 18, 2008 at 1:14 PM
True.
The Bible is the only book on Earth whose prophesies come to pass 100% of the time.
As I understand things, the Jews are already working on rebuilding the temple, and only two other prophesies remain to be fulfilled before the second coming:
1) The transfer of wealth from the unjust to the just.
2) Worldwide revival, sometimes with entire cities being saved at one time.
People get ready…even if it takes several more years, be ready…
Red Pill on April 18, 2008 at 1:24 PM
That’s what makes this so cool. :-)
My favorite analogy is this…
Pretend your favorite sports team is playing their biggest adversary, and your team is behind. The adversary keeps scoring points and their fans are heckling you and your team. They’re calling you losers and all sorts of nasty things. You tell them our team is coming back, and they tell you to shut up. The adversary scores a few more points and they laugh at you some more. Do you get down? Do you live in fear? If you’re only watching the game live and you don’t know the end of the story, maybe. But if you are watching a recording of the game (and you already know that your team wins in the end), the more your team seems behind, the more excited you get, because you know the comeback is going to be awesome!

dave742 on April 18, 2008 at 1:36 PM
The world doesn’t know it (incl. Carter) but they’re playing right into end time prophecy laid out in the Bible. God has preserved His people for a reason.
Listen to God’s plan for Jerusalem in these “latter days”.
God declared that in the last days He would cause Jerusalem, which is the capital city of Israel, to be a burden for all people. God said He would make Jerusalem a trouble spot. A prophetic warning sign to the world if you will….
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling … And in that day (the end times) will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.” Zechariah 12:2-3
Now that you’ve read that passage, read it again, and think of the news headlines. I think you’ll agree that there are some definite similarities.
Banned UN Speech: “Human Rights Nightmare”
Ever wonder where world events are leading us?
The voting of the UN, recent polls in Europe and the comments of leaders in Islamic countries all indicate we are heading towards a new global anti-Semitism. This will climax in the world marching on Israel.

Not quite, Red Pill.
There are many other prophecies yet to be fulfilled before Christ returns. For instance, in the last days, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Russia and a few other Middle East countries will form an alliance and attack Israel (Ezekiel 38 & 39). Most of these countries are already allied together. Get the video Epicenter by Joel Rosenberg to learn about it. The book is better. I have both. And here’s Joel’s blog for a daily update on the prophecy.
Rosenberg interviewed by Glen Beck (by the way, I use to like Beck, but I don’t trust him anymore after his treatment of Huckabee)
With all this said, it is my understanding that no other prophecy needs to be fulfilled in order for the Rapture to take place. Whole different scenario than the Second Coming of Christ.

It still amazes me how liberals complain that Bush should be investigated and impeached for spurious crimes against ‘humanity’, and yet, here we are, the entire world witnessing Carter’s blatant violations of American law, and they’ve got absolutely nothing to say. Obama even writes it off by saying ‘he’s a private citizen’. Pathetic. Both Obama and Hillary, and all the rest of the liberals.

Even if all that was not true, after WWI, the British and French carved up the Ottoman Empire. It was theirs to do with as they wished (to the victor go the spoils of war). The British chose to create an area for the Jews. That later became Israel. The Arab area later became Jordan. Why aren’t the Palestinians in Jordan where they belong?

Why should the US taxpayer fund Jimmah’s playpen…the so-called think tank? Just what return is the taxpayer getting out of it? Reduce the deficit by that allocation, aat least.
And pull his Secret Service detail, why risk those fine people? Bush won’t get one, and Jimmah has been out of the loop so long he couldn’t, if he ever did, know anything valuable, I would guess.

Does having Myrick in Congress in any way forgive my opponents from electing Edwards? I have a little more pride for NC today. Although it’s not for the first time in my adult life.

I would hate to see Myrick as veep. I’m proud to have Sue represent me in congress and would rather she stay there! Senator Richard Burr more than makes up for Edwards anyway.
As for Edwards,
The Democrats should have nominated Edwards. They wouldn’t be in this mess right now.
Although I disagree with Edwards’ politics, my pride in NC runs much deeper than her politics. This is truly the greatest state in the greatest country on the face of the eart.
