Steve Doocy’s son asks McCain: Why does Hillary drink?

For the same reason we all do, Peter: To kill the pain. And these days, she’s got a lot of pain to kill.
I don’t think Maverick was trying to be funny here but damned if he didn’t succeed. Exit question: Think you’ll be seeing this clip on Fox & Friends tomorrow morning?

So did McCain invite the student to the bus for a drink?
bnelson44 on April 15, 2008 at 8:09 PM
From the article: it looks like he didn’t
bnelson44 on April 15, 2008 at 8:10 PM
I think you are stretching it to say that McCain was funny there.
Vigilante on April 15, 2008 at 8:15 PM
LOL.
silverfox on April 15, 2008 at 8:17 PM
I cannot stand John McCain’s politics, but he came across here as very likable.
Charles Martel on April 15, 2008 at 8:17 PM
As soon as I saw him live on Hardball I knew he was Doocy’s son. I guess I watch to much fox news. Really funny question.
Complete7 on April 15, 2008 at 8:18 PM
I saw that kid on Fox and Friends when he was a senior in high school. He looked like he was 7 ft tall and 90lbs. He’s filled out a lot and seems at ease in front of the camera. Good for him!
thatcher on April 15, 2008 at 8:20 PM
Man, Red Lasso sucks.
Dr. Manhattan on April 15, 2008 at 8:21 PM
I guess being a silly runs in the family:)
terryannonline on April 15, 2008 at 8:21 PM
Absolutely.
And I’ve seen the clip of Hill downing a shot, and my first thought was is it real? I guess it was. And then, the beer chaser. Any word from MADD?
See…McCain is just such a likable guy. McCain 08!
JetBoy on April 15, 2008 at 8:23 PM
Ha. That was funny.
Spirit of 1776 on April 15, 2008 at 8:24 PM
So what’s the problem ? At least he isn’t pimping for his daddy.

A Star is Born.
Zorro on April 15, 2008 at 8:29 PM
I didn’t get the funny? Hillary would eat live rats if she had to. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…
SouthernGent on April 15, 2008 at 8:30 PM
So glad he’s our guy.
Much more likeable to us serfs than the Messiah.
omnipotent on April 15, 2008 at 8:34 PM
OH,McCain was great here. Which is why he will win.
But if you are still feeling reluctant to support him. You might want to think about this.
Rightwingsparkle on April 15, 2008 at 8:34 PM
Boy! Doocy’s kid looks just like him. In all seriousness, why do yall think McCain has allowed himself to be more “loose” in regards to jokes about Clinton (so far, “how do we beat the bitc*, and now “Hil hittin’ the sauce”) but if jokes about Obama are tossed around, he takes the “high road.” This really isn’t a criticism of McCain, I was just wondering if anyone here has any ideas. Is it the familiarity of the Clintons? Is he playing off a public image of Clinton that allows him more leeway, than it does with Obama? Or has he poked fun at Obama, like his bowling for example, and I just missed it?
Weight of Glory on April 15, 2008 at 8:35 PM
Jeez, I don’t want to like McCain, but I LOLed with this and the Letterman deal.
WisCon on April 15, 2008 at 8:36 PM
Looks exactly like his dad from the still shot (which is all I can access at the moment due to a “please try again later” error)
Valiant on April 15, 2008 at 8:37 PM
Oh that was funny,McCain hit a home run, this will be on Fox
News, and Fox and Friends are going to have a riot over this!
This is going to be good one tomorrow, every morning is a new venture into humour along the political trail on F@F!
canopfor on April 15, 2008 at 8:41 PM
After the name he called you? (content warning)

Steve, his dad, mentioned this interaction on Monday’s show (IIRC).
Peter appears to have inherited his dad’s sharp wit. Lucky boy – lucky dad.
heroyalwhyness on April 15, 2008 at 8:53 PM
C’mon AP! You have the coolest Boss in the world and an iPhone to boot. Pain? You drink because it tastes good and feels good. BTW, after 6 months of experimenting, I’ve come pretty close to cloning Newcastle here in my condo brewery.
RedWinged Blackbird on April 15, 2008 at 8:54 PM
I always think doofus when I see Doocy. I like him but he’s such a doofus.
sheesh on April 15, 2008 at 8:56 PM
McCain should have mentioned the fact that he played drinking games with Sen Clinton before, and that she was probably practicing. Or something.
DaveS on April 15, 2008 at 9:00 PM
McCain was just lucky he wasn’t asked why Bill drinks.
I would have liked to have heard him try to answer that one without getting into a lot of trouble.
MB4 on April 15, 2008 at 9:02 PM
I have stated my views on McCain. I don’t agree with him on immigration at all but he didn’t go for the cheap shot and he showed a level class and deportment severely lacking in our Democratic opponents.
ronsfi on April 15, 2008 at 9:02 PM
?
ronsfi on April 15, 2008 at 9:02 PM
It is almost like Steve Doocy cloned himself.

Hitting the sauce…
Entelechy on April 15, 2008 at 9:15 PM
If I had Jimmy Carter overseas starting my foreign policy platform, well, I’d be drinking too.
Limerick on April 15, 2008 at 9:17 PM
Wait! What? Canadian Whisky? Hah! The traitor! She didn’t drink Old Number 7? Socialist 817C#! Real Proles drink Jack.
ronsfi on April 15, 2008 at 9:21 PM
Remember, McCain has kids this age, he’s gonna handle the youth very well.
funky chicken on April 15, 2008 at 9:24 PM
Everytime Steve decides to grumble about college costs, he should look at that clip and realize that it is worth every penny! That was hilarious!
Pam on April 15, 2008 at 9:36 PM
We’ll hear about this in the am.
TheSitRep on April 15, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Showing personality to the masses. Meaning the college students, since no one watches MSNBC.
jencab on April 15, 2008 at 9:43 PM
Peter Doocy might be a better GOP nominee than the old man on the other end of this exchange.
EJDolbow on April 15, 2008 at 10:10 PM
Doocy for pres!!!
lol
allrsn on April 15, 2008 at 10:14 PM
I just finished SERE, and any doubts about McCain being able to lead the country through just about any crisis have been totally vanquished.
BadgerHawk on April 15, 2008 at 10:22 PM
I go to Villanova and know Doocy – good kid. Awesome having Sen. McCain at Villanova today.

Steve, You have a fine young man that you should be proud of. We need more like him.
Texyank on April 15, 2008 at 10:39 PM
PS, No explanation necessary.
Oldnuke on April 15, 2008 at 10:40 PM
But of course, Hillary is simply too much of an elitist to have to drive herself anywhere.
auzerais on April 15, 2008 at 11:03 PM
I don’t drink but if did, i’d rather have a shot of whiskey with McCain than Clinton or Obama.. >:}
1. Shot of whiskey with McCain hear some war stories..
2. Shot of Whiskey with Hillary have her voice drive a nail into your skull and give you a headache that would make the hangover seem pleasant.
3. Shot of Whiskey with Obama he would offend you about being a small town hick and bar fight would break out.
Chakra Hammer on April 16, 2008 at 1:22 AM
The Doocy instead of The Doofus. Go Peter!
bopbottle on April 16, 2008 at 7:10 AM
You can take him Chakra. No worries.
funky chicken on April 16, 2008 at 8:15 AM
If either Barry or the Wheeze beats McCain, we all might start drinking, and I don’t mean soda pop.
Doug on April 16, 2008 at 10:06 AM
I seem to remember cries of horror when, shortly before the 2000 election, it was revealed that George W. Bush was arrested for drunk driving…in 1976.
When Hillary was pouring her shots down da hatch in PA, did she have a designated driver?
Steve Z on April 16, 2008 at 10:09 AM
Does anybody else think McCain looks like Charlie Chaplin?
And no, Hillary has nothing to fear from MADD. She probably hasn’t driven a car in decades. That would be a question I would like some enterprising person to ask her. Peter Doocy, perhaps?
“Sen. Clinton, when was the last time you drove a car?” Or, “When was the last time you bought groceries? Pumped gas? Cooked? Did laundry, picked up the mail?” Etc.. etc. etc.
Talk about elitist. The pot calling the kettle black.
Can I say that?
Sloan Morganstern on April 16, 2008 at 10:18 AM
Question asked — why does McCain lay off on Obama?
Answer is: if Clinton takes the nomination, a certain segment of Dem voters is just going to stay home — UNLESS McCain is on record as hammering Obama then they will show up to vote against McCain. So by not hitting Obama now — he is enabling his win against Clinton in November.
Now if Obama takes the nomination — then McCain can take the gloves off as he will have nothing to lose.
