Revealed: How much game does Obama really have?

A no-look pass down court, a nice feed under the basket, and a fierce rebound? Well played, sir. Although do my eyes deceive me or does he get boxed out by the guy in the blue shorts? And what’s with that dribble? Good lord — the ball’s at neck level.
Watch for the part where Al Gore sets a pick and roll for him on Hillary and he knocks over McCain on his way to the basket. Total charge.

Wow! How come Gumbel looks so Caucasian all of a sudden? Did he see Michael Jackson’s surgeon?
jgapinoy on April 15, 2008 at 10:07 AM
Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcom X.
natesnake on April 15, 2008 at 10:07 AM
I hadn’t seen him for years…maybe he evolved slowly. I dunno.
jgapinoy on April 15, 2008 at 10:10 AM
Don’t mess with Wayne Brady!

lorien1973 on April 15, 2008 at 10:11 AM
Don’t know how good a shooter he is, but he’d be no liability on the court.
Spirit of 1776 on April 15, 2008 at 10:12 AM
Gumbel is a left-wing hack — plain and simple.
Richard Romano on April 15, 2008 at 10:12 AM
OK. But how is he at badminton?
natesnake on April 15, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Ok, I’m switching to Obama.
I can’t argue with basketball.
I. cannot. resist.
maynila on April 15, 2008 at 10:15 AM
wth does his basketball playing have to do with anything??
trailortrash on April 15, 2008 at 10:16 AM
Or croquet?
I’m very demanding of my Presidential qualifications.
natesnake on April 15, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Why haven’t I talked about how much I hate Bryant Gumbel before today?
I guess now that they’ve talked to the black candidate about round-ball they’ll talk to Hillary about knitting, bridge, and baking. All things white housewives engage in.
manfriend on April 15, 2008 at 10:17 AM
Its his white half that makes Barry dribble neck-high.
txsurveyor on April 15, 2008 at 10:19 AM
If you can’t wear a white V-neck sweater and hit balls with a mallet, then you can’t be trusted to answer the phone at 3 a.m.
natesnake on April 15, 2008 at 10:19 AM
He plays white to keep from getting hurt, says his brother-in-law.
White men are pu$$ies!
mikeyboss on April 15, 2008 at 10:20 AM
Typical white people can’t jump.
James on April 15, 2008 at 10:20 AM
OK if these are the “highlights” imagine how bad he really was?
liberrocky on April 15, 2008 at 10:21 AM
He doesn’t look like a half bad ballpayer. But Basketball? Basketball is the fast food of sports. Invented for girls, played by thugs.
LtE126 on April 15, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Basketball? Basketball? Why? Because he’s black?! RACISTS!!1!
amerpundit on April 15, 2008 at 10:22 AM
THOUSANDS of interviews… really?
christophercube on April 15, 2008 at 10:22 AM
You know who use to make it rain from 3-land with a sweet a$$ jumper? Stalin.
natesnake on April 15, 2008 at 10:23 AM
“We go play hoop.“
wise_man on April 15, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Here’s a confession. I won the St. Louis Hoop it Up tourney two years in a row not that long ago. If you know anything about b-ball you know that this says something. I say that to frame my assessment of Barack’s game… Besides the racist comments by the hosts Gumbel and Matt Lauer– Obama’s passing looks wimpy. His shot looks weak. He showed no jump and chances are he would get that ball slammed down his throat if that was all he had. His dribbling was high. I am curious to why they kept showing the same couple of scenes over and over??? All in all, there was not enough there to make an accurate assessment except to conclude that the two hosts are in love with BO.
That’s for certain.
gatewaypundit on April 15, 2008 at 10:36 AM
You can bet they edited the most favorable clips of him during the game. The only thing you can tell about a person by watching them play basketball is how well or poorly they can play basketball, and how well they understand how well or poorly their team mates can play basketball.
That said, it’s amazing how they can get away with racist stuff here. They were talking about a white guy playing black, or a black guy playing white. . . whatever that is supposed to mean (you don’t want me to start speculating here because I’ll be called racist).
ThackerAgency on April 15, 2008 at 10:38 AM
And also, they got done saying that he played in HAWAII on the state championship team. I’m not disparaging Hawaii because it is a wonderful place and the natives there are special. However, I wouldn’t consider it a hotbed for basketball.
ThackerAgency on April 15, 2008 at 10:39 AM
No, but you can tell a lot about the bias of two journalist hacks by the way they drool over their favorite candidate.
Tomorrow Matt asks the question, “Can you tell a lot about a person by the way they steamroll their grandmother?”
fogw on April 15, 2008 at 10:43 AM
Funny, the folks he’s playing against, they all look “bitter” and cling to guns and stuff.
Captain America on April 15, 2008 at 10:43 AM
“No, but you can tell something about someone from their game”
Geeze, does this guy ever talk in anything but vague generalities?
amkun on April 15, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Am I the only one that thinks those clips were sped up?
- The Cat
MirCat on April 15, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Hahahaha! If you don’t mind I’m going to use that next time I talk to my buddy who’s an insane basketball fan. That is going to drive him crazy. Perfect.
Zetterson on April 15, 2008 at 10:55 AM
Bryant Gumble says (as Barry tells us in his autobiography):
Let’s perpetuate stereotypes to the max, boys – it’s a vote-getter.
Buy Danish on April 15, 2008 at 10:58 AM
The clearest indicator of your ability can be found in who the other team gets to guard you.
Check the clip out at the 1:45 point…

And women’s tennis was invented for men.

MirCat on April 15, 2008 at 10:59 AM
This is probably petty, but even in pickup, he could not still wear that ring. It could cut someone. When I played in school, a girl had just gotten her ears pierced, and her choice was to tape her ears or take them out. Even tight chains have the potential to get snapped off. So that’s the first thing I noticed.
Second-nobody’s boxing him out, the defender is letting him go, and he’s dribbling too high. Notice, there’s no follow through of that effortless wrist-flicking shot.
And if the other guys can truly play, then they look lame for not even trying. When I went to GW’s summer camp, my dad played one of their star girl players, and she banged him up like she would in a game. He still talks about how bad it hurt.
It’s all BS just like his dancing on Ellen and the bowling. Look for him to be seen hitting a few with the Williams’ sisters.
Dubn8tr on April 15, 2008 at 11:06 AM
Wait…did the today show just spend a 4 minute segment on how basketball played a part in Obama Barack’s life, even though he’s a senator with no sports career in his past?
MadisonConservative on April 15, 2008 at 11:16 AM
They just showed the same 3 or 4 clips over and over, while the 2 most pretentious members of the media discuss.
Yawn…zzz…
budorob on April 15, 2008 at 11:18 AM
Wait…did the Today Show just do a segment on a sissy, yuppy, Marxist, multiracial politician by interviewing a sissy, yuppy, Marxist, multiracial sports commentator?

If he can golf, then I’ll be impressed.
Mallard T. Drake on April 15, 2008 at 11:28 AM
Doubtful. Those girls would kill him.
baldilocks on April 15, 2008 at 11:29 AM
No doubt, but like I said, if any of those guys in the vid could play at all, they certainly held back thus making him look competent.
The W girls would just be fawning over him.
Dubn8tr on April 15, 2008 at 11:38 AM
Nice pass.
Still not voting for you.
:-)
Good Lt on April 15, 2008 at 11:39 AM
I played and coached this game and I am shocked that no one here picked up the obvious. Everything BO does in this clip, he does going to his left, he cannot go to his right.
Draw your own conclusions.
swami on April 15, 2008 at 11:39 AM
Big deal Barry can dribble a round orange rubber object. But can he hit a 90 mph curve ball.
USMCDevilDog on April 15, 2008 at 12:10 PM
I play in an over 35 league. We are the fourth seed in our tournament. No black guys on any of the teams ahead of us and plenty on the teams behind us. Someone needs to tell those brothers to quit playing like how they think old white guys play and start playing like the old white guys who are kicking their butts.
peacenprosperity on April 15, 2008 at 12:26 PM
Man Crush alert!
46 or not, based on the short clips they kept re-playing, I’m not impressed. This is nothing more than a way to talk about Obama for 5 minutes without drawing attention to anything substantive or controversial.
landshark on April 15, 2008 at 12:41 PM
I play ball and judging from the clips, believe me when I say Barrack has NO GAME! Not on the court, not on the lanes, not on the field, not with a gun. Get real, the man’s a spoiled, creamy handed, sissy boy, who was probably the last one choosen in pick up games.
soulsirkus on April 15, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Had he made one shot, they would have shown it—endlessly. Since they didn’t show one, we can assume he balls as well as he bowls.
mattshu on April 15, 2008 at 12:59 PM
“Second-nobody’s boxing him out, the defender is letting him go, and he’s dribbling too high. Notice, there’s no follow through of that effortless wrist-flicking shot.”
Why should they? He and his wife got where they are today through cheating more qualified people out of college.
LtE126 on April 15, 2008 at 1:11 PM
My guess is, based on these clips, if Obama doesn’t win the nomination, Isiah Thomas will want to make him the Knicks’ No. 1 draft choice (no worse than some of Isaiah’s other draft picks, and he’d get Olbermann wanna-be Mike Lupica to hail him as an enlightened genius for the selection).
jon1979 on April 15, 2008 at 1:19 PM
All you people writing disparaging words about Obama…
may you be punished with a baby.
carbon_footprint on April 15, 2008 at 1:22 PM
Wow – Obama is actually making some nice reads and crisp passes. He shows good fundamentals with boxing out and rebounding.
Wish there was more footage. It was reported on RealGM that Obama said he would tear down the White House bowling alley to build a basketball court should he win. LOL
PaulD on April 15, 2008 at 1:22 PM
Check out the end….all the Black guy who plays white, white guy who plays black…..blah blah blah
YET another example of LIBERALS pointing out race….talking in a derogatory way………
Conservatives would not be permitted to talk about white /black issues.
Exit Question: Is Bryant Gumbal a racist? (or is he a white journalist, playing black????)
Dpet on April 15, 2008 at 1:45 PM
so, a black guy playing basketball. so long for the post-racial candidate.
interesting the comment by the interviewed guy “basketball helped him to find himself”. any more stereotypes?
aso on April 15, 2008 at 2:04 PM
John Kerry used to throw the football around on the campaign trail also..
Chakra Hammer on April 15, 2008 at 2:32 PM
You think he dribbles the ball high enough? easy pickins, steal that thing easily.
Chakra Hammer on April 15, 2008 at 2:34 PM
Aren’t the Gumbels Republicans? Maybe that was just Greg Gumbel.
James Brown was a Republican you know.

>>If he can golf, then I’ll be impressed.
If he can hit my 1-iron more than 50 yards, I would vote for him. BTW, my 1-iron I can hit 215 – carry. :-)
Sergei on April 15, 2008 at 5:19 PM
I don’t really care how well a racist America hating Marxist plays basket ball.
JellyToast on April 15, 2008 at 6:07 PM
I’m not sure who was being the typical white person with all that talk about race in the video.
aikidoka on April 15, 2008 at 8:08 PM
I heard Lauer offered a locker room interview…..
I’m just sayin.
