Austin Bay’s “Consequences”

posted at 9:50 pm on April 15, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

Col. Austin Bay is a man with ambition. He has launched a new video enterprise called Consequences, which takes viewers through several different scenarios regarding the war in Iraq. The pilot episode can be viewed at The Arena, Col. Bay’s website, and it’s a slickly produced presentation. Col. Bay asks a number of compelling questions, and gives an array of answers — and challenges us to consider the consequences of the options available.

It’s very intriguing, and as always, Col. Bay brings his encyclopedic knowledge to this project. Anyone interested in the Iraq mission should make this a must visit site. (via Instapundit)

Update: Fixed the link, but you do have to sign up to see more than the first episode.

Where was Col. Austin Bay and his “Consequences” 5 to 6 years ago when we really needed him?

5 years ago he was writing books. 4 years ago he was serving in Iraq.

So he should’ve presented the consequences of an early withdrawal from Iraq a year before we even attacked and months before military action was even approved.

OK…

Don’t try to figure it out. This is the liberal brain-fart that happens every time the issue of Iraq comes up.

PERSON CAPABLE OF LINEAR THOUGHT: Right, fine. Bush is evil, got it. So, what do you believe we should actually DO, RIGHT NOW?

MOONBAT: We shouldn’t be there in the first place.

PERSON CAPABLE OF LINEAR THOUGHT: OK, for the twenty-third time… What do you think WE should do NOW?

MOONBAT: It’s all George Bush’s fault….

This is one of those circles that just doesn’t go anywhere.

I’m going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and assume he’s telling the truth: that six years ago he could have made a cogent point about something (or at the very least, could have passed the Turing Test.) But even if that is true, who cares?

Moonbats thought LSD was going to solve all the world’s problems, and in a purely subjective way they were right. Being a neo-hippy means never even having to PRETEND to have something constructive to say.

Unfortunately, finding 20 consecutive minutes in a moonbat-dominated media is a damned hard thing to do. They will always have a bigger microphone than ours.

We need to spend the next six months talking about practically nothing except what will happen if Obama and the other Moonbats do what they say they are going to do.

Obama and the other moonbats are doing everything in their power to make Iraq END in the same way that Vietnam did: with a return to genocide, dictatorship, and an expanded base of operations for our enemies.

This is what the liberals and terrorists want more than anything else in the world.

I am in awe over what Austin Bay has done. Wow, I can’t believe it is free. A very well-done video with interactive slides including links to sources. Extremely well organized, well executed, and user-friendly.

Whoever hasn’t signed up needs to now, at least for appreciation for what this man has done. That’s the most useful, non-boring, educational site I have ever seen. Bravo Austin, Bravo.

Free Constitution on April 15, 2008 at 11:42 PM

Everything about the vid was excellent…except for Bay’s tie.

Wow. Great site and terrific production values. Stuff like this could be the future of the web vs old (very old, when they actually did) TV news. I think that “Arena” will be a big hit. Thanks for the pointer, Ed.

B26354 on April 15, 2008 at 11:58 PM

Of course not, retard. The only people who ever said that are moonbats who keep trying to say that conservatives said it.

We need a new word for this; how about TripleSpeak?

Once liberals could be publically challenged, they eventually figured out they always look like idiots whenever they directly try to advance their agenda. So the neohippies went the only direction they can go: further down the rabbit hole. Now the moonbats have given up trying to tell us what THEY believe; instead they keep telling us over and over again what they think WE believe.

logis on April 16, 2008 at 1:05 AM

Kaptain Amerika on April 16, 2008 at 1:44 AM

Here the thing with liberals. They want it fast and free. This stuff takes time to work. Democracy takes time to work. Most liberals don’t realise it but the Iraqi democracy is ahead of the game compare to what happen just after WWII with Germany and Japan.

Freedom is not a welfare program just remember that.

Let me give you a clue. If you were in any position on John McCain’s campaign staff or in the RNC or in the Bush’s administration or on General Petraeus’s staff, they would not be able to launch you into deep space soon enough. They would put more distance between themselves and you than? Well I can not think of any historical examples that even come anywhere near close. It would set a new record I’m sure.

You are sharpshooting General Petraeus as he hasn’t said anything like that.

I have repeatedly noted that we haven’t turned any corners. We haven’t seen any lights at the end of the tunnel. The champagne bottle has been pushed to the back of the refrigerator. And the progress, while real, is fragile and is reversible.

The oil revenues of that country could bring in between $50 and $100 billion over the course of the next two or three years. We are dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction.

Tuesday April 15, 2008: 2 Marines, 125 Iraqis Killed; 166 Iraqis Wounded…that’s about equal to a 9/11 to the Iraqis.

Imagine a 9/11 every.single.day.

June 6, 1944, America invades a foriegn country, resulting in 10,000 allied casualties, 2,500 dead allied troops and 8,000 “murdered” Germans.

Now imagine someone who isn’t a severely brain-damaged and perverse jackass blaming that on America.

N. O'Brain on April 16, 2008 at 8:38 AM

Just finished with presentation and found it to be thoughtful.

The left has generally failed to consider that a precipitous withdraw may well lead to the “Lebanonization” of Iraq. In such a scenario, Iraq would function as a fulcrum for proxy wars and asymmetrical conflicts. The price of failure in Iraq may be hard to calculate and would not be known for many years to come.

moxie_neanderthal on April 16, 2008 at 11:00 AM

Great program, but there are some tech problems with the viewer: after using the rewind button (using the flash viewer), the play button wouldn’t work. I tried to submit a problem report via their feedback form, but the submit button wouldn’t work. :/

Still, well-worth watching. I wish the Bush Administration had been this good at explaining the issues involved.
