Condi: “I do not want to be, don’t intend to be, won’t be on [the] ticket”

Sounds like a Sherman statement to me. Thus dies the Democratic dream of saddling McCain with Bush’s baggage personified. Hey, has anyone asked Rumsfeld if he’s interested?
“I do not want to be, don’t intend to be, won’t be on [McCain's] ticket,” she told the Associated Press in an interview in Alabama today where she received an honorary degree from Air University at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base.
“It’s time for me to do something else,” she added, saying she would return to Stanford University after the Bush administration leaves office next January.
Rice praised Sen. McCain, of Arizonia, as “an amazing man” with “great intellect” but said the last time she spoke with him was last month after his passport file had been breached…
“We’ll see in a few year’s what I do. But I — this is not the time for me,” she told the AP.
There were at least two sources, one of them named, claiming that she was campaigning to be VP and Grover Norquist all but nominated her for the position. Anyone think this splash of cold water isn’t the result of someone from Team Maverick pulling her aside to tell her to save her breath?

We have some stuff to scratch off our to-do-list tomorrow:
Gay Marriage
Abortion
Porn Surfing (refer to previous St. O posts for clarification)
Lusting (see above)
umm… what am I missing, anointed post mystic O?
Cold Steel on April 15, 2008 at 12:23 AM
Mmmmmmm… Lusting.
techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 12:27 AM
Conservatism is a meaningless ideology compared with facing the judgment of a Just and Holy God.
God warns that He will judge unrighteous nations..

Techno,
is there a script we can use to aid in posting with St. O? Like a tag line,
Cold Steel, M, heterosexual, married…..?
St. O truly worried about our sexuality and the consequences of its misuse. I think repetitive tag lines will help him in his diagnosis.

I see it as a defense mechanism; people that are insecure in their “skin” due to their fear of humility strike at those whom are not in lock step with their survival kit. This phenomena is exactly what Islam teaches, destroy those that use intellect and reason to question and challange human fallibility and the internal conflict created by free will, for those that choose this path are apostates.
dmann on April 15, 2008 at 12:36 AM
Do you mean the state where he helped legalize gay marriage and where he raised taxes,or “fees” as he calls them, by $750M?
Where he promised to do more for the militant gay agenda than Ted Kennedy himself?
Where he promised that he was an independent during the Reagan years and said he wouldn’t govern anything like that horrible Ronald Reagan.
SaintOlaf on April 15, 2008 at 12:42 AM
Didn’t want anyhow.
Next.

Well, now it’s my turn to say amen. It’s like a revival in here. It’s amazing how many cultures throughout history have attacked progress and intellectual advancement in the name of religion. If Christ is about truth and knowledge, we should constantly search for said truth and knowledge, wherever it lies. Dogmatic posturing and adherence to parsed principles is what Christ fought against, albeit peacefully, during His ministry. (St. O.: it’s a reference to the Pharisees and Saducees). All good things come of Christ. Is it such a revolutionary concept to think that advances in medicine, the arts, and sound government come through inspiration? I guess it’s easier to clutch the Bible and chant incantations.
Cold Steel on April 15, 2008 at 12:47 AM
Later O. Don’t let the fire and brimstone keep you up too late. It probably saves on utilities though. Remember, hate the sin but not the sinner.
Cold Steel on April 15, 2008 at 12:49 AM
Why would Maverick trade in a great orator in Lindsey Graham, for Condi? She’s knowledgeable, yes. However, the VP should mirror the positions of the Pres and be able to carry a hell of a lot of water. It’s Lindsey Graham or Lieberman. Which one would piss of “True Conservatives” more? It will be Lindsey in the end as the vp. If not he’ll definitely be the Secretary of State.
THE CHOSEN ONE on April 15, 2008 at 12:50 AM
Heh. I think there’s not much lusting going on with the Saint.
My God is much more compassionate than the Saint’s, evidently. My God is a great help and comfort to me. As soon as I discovered I didn’t need a middle man to get to Him, I cut the middle man out. Never been happier.
techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 1:00 AM
Hey Cold Steel; it’ll really freak the Saint out to know that I don’t have problems with gay people, won’t it? I’ve known too many of them as excellent, decent human beings to wish harm or punishment on them. It’s none of my business who they love. If they have what the Beloved Mrs. B and I have, then more power to them.
Guess that tosses me out of the ‘true’ Conservative club for sure, huh?
It’s God’s job to judge. Not mine. Not Saint’s either.

techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 12:14 AM
Does your god compel you to fight to protect gay marriage and abortion? Because that’s what we were debating about.
SaintOlaf on April 15, 2008 at 1:10 AM
Agreed. She’s no doubt a fine intelligent person, but I’m really disappointed in her performance.
techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 1:11 AM
For the record, I’m pro life. And life, to me, begins at conception.
But as for that being what “we’re” debating about… speak for yourself only. You’re on a crusade and the rest of us are finding it difficult to afford you any respect at all.
Especially with your vitriol and juvinile ad hominem attacks.
The topic is Condi’s rejection, not your Huckabee-lust.
techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 1:15 AM
I’m not as miffed at Condi as some folks are.
There’s no point in picking the inevitable fight with Iran right now if it ensures the voters in November will pick someone who may be obligated to disengage from the fight.
As long as Israel and the Palestinians are officially in a “peace process,” the Iranian catspaws among the Palestinians and other Arabs can’t act without being overly provocative. Iran wants to make it look like we and Israel are the aggressors when the fight comes.
So right now, until the Bush Administration is beyond retaliation by ballot box, the best policy is to do whatever it takes to keep the fight from starting—up to and including some efforts many supporters of Israel have found objectionable.

Wow, compare the photo of Rice for this thread to the picture of Obama on the Obama hits a 20-point stumble thread. Aside from being mirrored they are striking identical poses.
FloatingRock on April 15, 2008 at 1:17 AM
Her time to be VP would have been in the back half of the second term after Cheney stepped down ‘for medical reasons’. It would have set her up for the top slot. Unfortunately, the 2006 election disaster made that impossible.
Besides, she needs time out of the meat grinder to figure out if she wants to try for it, and to find out her own positions. She’s been carrying water for too many for too long. State was a serious mistake for her.
michaelo on April 15, 2008 at 1:19 AM
Also, Saint, I’m not ‘protecting gay marriage’. That’s none of my business, is it? Has nothing to do with me. I don’t irrationally fear it as you do.
I’m an American and we live in the land of Liberty. Liberty encapsulates nearly everything for me. I don’t want people, (especially the government) telling me what I can and can’t do.
You want to legislate your version of religious morality. I think that’s an incredibly bad and dangerous idea, not far separated from the islamist point of view.
I will not submit. But thanks for playing anyway.
techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 1:20 AM
You’re right except that as soon as iran does produce usable nuclear weapons they will use them on israel and US/UK ASAP!
SaintOlaf on April 15, 2008 at 1:21 AM
There’s nothing to debate. There is normal and there is deviant. Each of us is one or the other.
Now as far as God judging, that refers to the value of each person. Only He can do that. But the actions of each person must be judged.
I judge certain behaviors as deviant. If the deviant people were honest (like Camille Paglia is), they would admit what they are and stop trying to impersonate normal people.

I have lived in Massachusetts for the better part of 50 years, my wife has been an employee of the Commonwealth for over 25 years, as a tax paying citizen I can unequivocally state (of course in my humble opinion) that Mitt Romney is an extremely effective administrator and did balance the states budget and create a revenue surplus. Mitt understood the value of compromise on emotionally driven issues and embodied the reality of social diversity coupled with fiscal/budget responsiblity, how else could a Mormon be elected the Governor of the Peoples Republic Of Taxachussetts. The unions and entrenched entitlement bastions hated him with a passion…good enough for me!
dmann on April 15, 2008 at 1:26 AM
Techno barbarian,
I want to ban gay marriage, ban abortion and stop teaching the non scientific state religion of evolution/secular humanism.
What you fail to recognize is that as soon as one religion(Christianity) is banished from being America’s religion another takes it’s place(secular humanism)…don’t tell me secular humanism is not a religion.
You honestly think the fruits of secular humanism are better?
SaintOlaf on April 15, 2008 at 1:28 AM
No I do not. Your statement about Christianity being banished from being America’s religion. Just so you know, here in America we pride ourselves on one of our most fundamental tenents; the freedom of religion. That also includes the freedom from religion.
In case you haven’t noticed, Christianity hasn’t done much to endear itself to the populace lately. You hold up Huckabee as an example of what should be. I hold him up as an example of what must never be.
Get over it. America isn’t a theocracy. And that’s a very good thing.
techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 1:33 AM
Yes America is a theocracy… of secular humanism!
You really don’t see that.
The non scientific state religion of evolution/secular humanism is indoctrinated into the minds of hundreds of millions of kids forcing them to become atheists by the time they are 18!
All dissenters of the non scientific state religion are denied tenure, openly criticized, their careers are destroyed and sometimes even imprisoned.
70%-80% of children who grow up in the church and go to public schools reject Christianity by graduation of high school.
They give an explanation of “science” disproving the Bible as their reason.
Do you really not call that a theocracy?
SaintOlaf on April 15, 2008 at 1:40 AM
I definitely do not call it a theocracy. It threatens and frightens you because it’s something you cannot control, or even influence or impact very much.
I will agree with you that the U.S. indoctrination centers are a dismal failure to our youth and our Nation. But your solution would be the exact same thing, only with your preferred indoctrination materials. No thanks. Parents and churches should school their children and instill in them the values sacred to them. But it’s wrong to force your views and will upon the entire population.
I cannot believe you do not see and understand that.
Actually, I think you do. Your motives are willful and transparent. You may want what you perceive to be what’s best for America, but you have no right to impose your beliefs on others.
You’re welcome to hold the beliefs you have. Just don’t push them off on me. That violates my right to Liberty. Can’t have that.
techno_barbarian on April 15, 2008 at 1:51 AM
Well I sure don’t, and whatever it is it’s certainly better than Huckatopia, where science, logic and reason are viewed as enemies.
FloatingRock on April 15, 2008 at 1:59 AM
No.
True Science validates the Bible. That is a fact.
There is no possible way under any circumstances that everything just happened without God creating it.
Evolution is NON SCIENTIFIC.
It is illogical.
All of our history that we have been indoctrinated to believe is a lie.
It is logical and reasonable to truly want to find out these facts of our history.
The truth is important.
Yes America is a secular humanist theocracy.
Refer to my post at 12:27 AM to see how God will judge this sinful idolatrous nation if we do not repent.
SaintOlaf on April 15, 2008 at 2:07 AM
The secular humanist state religion violates my liberty and violates our first amendment.

Tzetzes on April 15, 2008 at 2:37 AM
What does that have to do with what you quoted?
There is no self righteousness in Christianity.
I am fully aware of the fact that my righteousness is not mine or of my own efforts. It is from Jesus Christ who lives within me.
Before I was born again I had(like all of mankind)a wicked deceitful, adulterous heart that only seeked sin.
The Bible says “No man seeks after God”
How I KNOW that Christ is real is because He has given me a new heart, a heart that seeks to be obedient to God and keep His commandments. That is a MIRACLE!
In no way whatsoever do I consider my “self” righteous. It is Christ that lives within me transforming me into the image of Christ.
For anyone who wants to prove if Jesus Christ is real…If you repent, turn from your sin and put your faith in Jesus Christ, He promises to manifest Himself to you!
You will know for certain that He is real.

I’m trying to become one, as per the OED’s definition (sub lemmate): “One who has acquired learning in the ‘Schools’ [university departments]; a learned or erudite person; esp. one who is learned in the classical (i.e. Greek and Latin) languages and their literature.”
That’s true: although my last degree was technically in a history department, I’m really just a literature guy and in great need of more historical background. (By the way, for current popular history you can hardly do better than this offering by the Viscount of Norwich.)
That’s all right; I don’t think I’m ready for your advanced courses in how Orpheus & Achilles & Aeneas were children of the Nefelim (even though it was their mothers who were divine and their fathers mortal). I’m still being catechized on dragons as memory-vestiges of antediluvian dinosaurs (a.k.a. behemoths).
I only bring these words (of yours) up when you change the subject to from “who’ll be VP” to “America as a righteous nation”.
With stars in my eyes, your saintly dreamboat.
As magnanimous as you’re being, I have no apology to make you, Olaf; but if you’d like one far better than I could write, you’ll find it here.
Tzetzes on April 15, 2008 at 4:13 AM
Techno, Tzetzes…. good comments all.
St. O and some evangelicals can’t let others make choices. They pay lip service to liberty and equality under the law, but like their illegitimate liberal cousins, they want to mandate how people live. That flies in the face of this country’s foundation. If the majority of the people want secular humanism, then that’s what they get. As that angers God, then it will be the consequence of their action. If evangelicals don’t like it (as most thinking people might not) then it is their duty to work within the law to influence through speaking, voting, service, etc. It’s not their duty to hijack the system on some vendetta to impose their will. St. O, you’re system is the flip side of what the democrats are postulating, yours just hides behind religion’s robes. God gave man reason and agency. Don’t undo His handiwork, it is perfection, right?
Cold Steel on April 15, 2008 at 7:11 AM

As far as her performance, just another Affirmative Action let down.

While the Hon. Rice would make a great V.P. the timing is not right in terms of position offered and the timing of the announcement.
Even though her presence on the ticket would win the Party the election, her effectiveness would be negated by MSM pandering. After election her ideas would be seen as merely a token offering as her nomination was.
The Hon. Rice will have greater impact on the world of politics by scholarly exposing the problems with the current structure and influence peddling. Specifically, how over the last 20 years committee ’stiffers’ have been making policy without bearing any responsibility for their actions.
There is also a group that stand in the wings, resume in hand, to impress the newly elected politician who hastily hires them and takes the blame for their ’stiffers’ poor biased thinking.

Great Plan!! Giuliani for VP?
Superb, all the base of the soon to be former republican party who isn’t furious with McVain over belittling us for wanting border enforcement (northern, southern and the coasts), and then the additional bonus for the soon to be former republican party with one of the most pro-abortion rights supporters as VP.
And then there are people questioning Sec. Rice’s qualifications???
Branch Rickey on April 15, 2008 at 12:47 PM
Almost correct. I am Christian and a conservative and Huckabee isn’t a conservative. He’s mildly conservative; at best. Life is his ONLY conservative credential {that and making fun of Johnny Edwards – but that is like shooting fish in a barrel so it does not count}.
Branch Rickey on April 15, 2008 at 12:55 PM
techno_barbarian: Don’t go using any common sense. We are talking about McVain.
Mr. Steele is a better person, a better ‘politician’ (and I use that term loosely with Mr. Steele because he is better than regular politicians), and way more intelligent than Juan McShamnesty and the only way McVain looks any good is when he is around mental midgets Lindsey Graham and Chuck (rhymes with f#$%) Hagel…..
Branch Rickey on April 15, 2008 at 1:04 PM
And Judge Bork was basically a socialist at one point in his life? So what? Your Christianity allows for no growth? That’s pretty much missing Christ’s points. You may need to reread the Sermon on the Mount.

Condi needs to run for governor of California (or maybe her original homestate of Alabama or even Colorado). Executive experience and then a stint as VP and she will be ready for the presidency.
