Report: Gore, Carter ready to bring down the hammer on Hillary?

Totally expected, yet enough of a scoop to make me skeptical that the Scotsman would be the one to break it. Carter told Stephanopoulos this morning that he won’t endorse before the convention, so presumably his role here will be to take her aside for The Talk after she loses North Carolina. If she still won’t jump at that point, I’m guessing Gore will push her with a formal endorsement, thus giving us another fun “Judas” news cycle replete with whispers of a tense phone call followed by the inevitable Shakespearean denouement.

Falling poll numbers and a string of high-profile blunders have convinced party elders that she must now bow out of the primary race.

Former president Carter and former vice-president Gore have already held high-level discussions about delivering the message that she must stand down for the good of the Democrats.

“They’re in discussions,” a source close to Carter told Scotland on Sunday. “Carter has been talking to Gore. They will act, possibly together, or in sequence.”…

A number of options are being considered by the higher echelons of the Democrats, but they fall roughly into two categories. One is for Carter and Gore to go to Clinton privately and ask her to step down. The other is for both men to appear in public and endorse Obama – a move which would see a majority of superdelegates go with them.

The campaign to force Clinton to make an early exit is being masterminded in Congress, home to the most influential of the superdelegates.

Any reason to believe that last part’s true? Yeah, maybe.

So a loser president and terrorist appeaser will help decide the Democratic nominee. Lovely.

Will Hillary’s staunch supporters feel she’s being pushed out?

Do Carter and Gore have that much clout inside the party? I don’t think so. SoS may have gotten some inside information from somebody, but one thing I’ve learned from being abroad a lot: foreign newspapers don’t have a CLUE about the innards of American party politics.

Anybody watch James Carville on Meet the Press this morning?

Watch and note the almost conciliatory demeanor he has towards Obama. He spent a lot of time attacking McCain as opposed to pumping up Hillary. I found that noteworthy. He has otherwise been a noted attack dog.

If we hear a similar tone from Lanny Davis on his next inevitable appearance, then we know the fix is in.

Former President James Carter and former Vice-President Albert Gore were found dead today of an apparent murder/suicide.

WHen questioned, Senator Hillary Clinton, (D-NY) reported that Former President Carter seemed depressed over his upcoming meetings with Hamas.

Former Vice-President Gore was seen berating Mr. Carter regarding his use of global warming fuels and transportation.

Yeah, totally expected, but excellent news none-the-less.

I think maybe at this point Obama will be easier for McCain to beat, especially if Clinton’s hard-core supporters are disillusioned and feel disenfranchised. Pushing Clinton out at this point is dangerous for the Dems, IMO. However, letting her stay in is dangerous, too. Hahahaha! A rock and a hard place. (A Sullivan prefers the hard place)

I hope you are right. Let the air out of him and bring him down.

After all of the coverage by the MSM of the Clinton’s, exposing their lying asses, she will be easy to knock off in the general. I’m guessing that her disapproval ratings are through the roof.

Oh, then we can be called misogynists instead of racists. Oh well, what are you gonna do?

cjs1943 on April 13, 2008 at 6:03 PM

Isn’t Gore still fighting the 2000 election? He’s not the best guy to tell someone to quit a campaign.

ThackerAgency on April 13, 2008 at 6:09 PM

Doesn’t matter if Gore and Carter endorse Obama. Hillary’s not going — she and Bill both look down on Al and Jimmy the way Barak looks down on rural religious gun owners.

Think of Woodward and Bernstein’s description of Nixon venting at paintings on the White House wall in “The Final Days” and you’ll have an idea what the end of the Hillary candidacy would look like. The only difference is it would be 50-50 whether or not she would end her campaign before the convention for the good of the party, or take the whole thing to Armageddon in Denver (my guess is the Clintons’ greed would be the only thing that could get her to leave without a struggle – even with that reported $109 million in earnings, if key Democrats could get together and tell Bill and Hill if they go on, they’ll see all their speaking fees, book deals, consulting agreements, etc., that have been paid for by liberal-leaning companies and organizations dry up, that might be enough to force the missus out of the race).

jon1979 on April 13, 2008 at 6:10 PM

Hillary doesn’t care what Carter has to say.

If her numbers go up by just a little, and if she makes it in one of those upcoming states, and especially if she makes it through the primaries, yes, by miracles, the wrath of Hillary toward Pelosi, Reid, Richardson, the Kennedys, the Kerrys, and a few other ‘Judases’ will be unsurpassed.

Given all this, the two smarty-pants in the game will be Messrs. Gore and Edwards. Watch and see. This is not over, by far.

Entelechy on April 13, 2008 at 6:18 PM

That’s odd. I saw this snippet of Gore at a fundraiser for his “Alliance for Climate Change Prevention” thing and he said he didn’t think Hillary should drop out. This was a few weeks ago, though.

malan89 on April 13, 2008 at 6:20 PM

One small detail to consider here: neither of these dorks has any actual POWER. They’re both just a couple of moonbat figureheads.

I’m sure Al Gore has fantasized about this moment for years, just as Jimmy Carter has fantasized about accomplishing pretty much anything.

But if this fantasy meeting actually DID happen it would be pure farce. Hillary might not literally shout, “Off with their heads!” But the meeting would end about that abruptly.

logis on April 13, 2008 at 6:22 PM

No surprise that they want Hillary to quit. If anyone other than Obama had said that:

…they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Their campaign would of been declared DOA.

The longer Clinton stays in, the more transparent he becomes.

E L Frederick (Sniper One) on April 13, 2008 at 6:27 PM

jon1979 on April 13, 2008 at 6:10 PM

I tend to agree with this. They will want to be compensated in cash. I was thinking Obama may offer one or both of them a high level position in an Obama administration but that would be a suicidal move by him to have either in his administration. This is all a mute point since there ain’t no way in hades he will win the general election.

Gore couldn’t even win his own home state in 2000. He wouldn’t have even needed to win in Florida if he hadn’t been rejected by the people he’d “served” in Congress for so many years.

Vntnrse on April 13, 2008 at 6:39 PM

So what happens when Hillary rejects “the talk” and continues on? Are the party leaders really willing and able to take the Clintons down?

Legitimately, Hillary Clinton really isn’t in a bad position for the general election. She is correct that she’s won in the Democrat states that matter. IMO, the “rats” really screwed themselves. Big time.

As a native and almost life long resident of Gore’s home state I can say without hesitation that his loss of the state in 2000 was the most satisfying moment in my life.

JonRoss on April 13, 2008 at 6:44 PM

Why only Carter and Gore? They have other losers that are still breathing: John Kerry, George McGovern (who voted for Ford in 1976, because he didn’t trust Carter – hah!), and Michael Dukakis — let the full stength of the loser’s club be heard from — it’s the Democratic way.

And Hillary girl, don’t pay ‘em no mind — you just keep Obama talkin’ and talkin’ until that convention, it’s workin’ great, and us God and guns people are lovin’ every minute — ya hear, girl?

Gore, Carter ready to bring down the hammer on Hillary?

If you pounded a quart of moonshine into each of them, gave them two grenades and AK-47’s WITH bayonets, fed them each a cow’s worth of rare red meat, THEN shot 50,000 volts up their asses and hit them off with a $2 billion dollar government grant…

…You’d still have a baby-pink Nerf Hammer… with a cotton handle.

Hillary poops better stuff than these two.

heldmyw on April 13, 2008 at 7:46 PM

Well, Serpenthead Carville has already used the “Judas” moniker on Bill Richardson, which leaves him with either calling Gore and Carter Pilate and/or Caiphas. But he does have the option of just using historical figures like Benedict Arnold instead, but he will have to decide if that designation will go to either Gore or Carter. He was probably saving “Satan” to use against McPain, but it looks like that opportunity is going to go out the window pretty soon anyway.

So a loser president and terrorist appeaser will help decide the Democratic nominee. Lovely.

This brings one question: Is the Lib/Prog/Socialist/Democrat/Hypocrite Party considering a ‘Party Elders’ ticket? Can Carter/Gore (or Gore/Carter)’08 be far behind?

One loves the old Soviet Union’s Terrorist Arm, the other loves the old Soviet Union’s Pravada to tell the masses what they needed to know. Neither one of these clowns is worth a plug nickel.

SeniorD on April 13, 2008 at 8:31 PM

Something tells me that Bill is already working on a new “sexism in politics” speech, which he will deliver 10 minutes prior to Gore’s endorsement.

AND OF COURSE… Dick Morris’ next column will proudly predict all of this as well… day late and a dollar short, as usual.

Gartrip on April 13, 2008 at 8:38 PM

The trouble is that between Barry, his old lady, and his entourage of preachers, the gaffes are coming so fast that Gore and Carter could hardly get any reporter’s attention long enough to endorse him.

Exit question: at what point does Hillary have to decide to either jump off the runaway train that is hurtling toward the fireworks factory, or fight her way to the emergency brake and pull it by saying in publicObama is not going to beat McCain, you fools!”

drunyan8315 on April 13, 2008 at 9:21 PM

I don’t know as I would expect a Judas news event if Gore backs Obama. The blood hasn’t been so great between Gore and the Clintons anyway. Gore, Carter, Soros, Kerry, et al, obviously consider Obama a useful tool in their quest to spread the marxist message globally.

Operation Chaos, indeed.

Democrats… if you think Republicans don’t know anything about intelligence after Iraq, think again. IF THE Rush (and Hugh Hewitt the Great too!) is screaming for an “Operation: Chaos”, logic would dictate the Democrats to stop right this second and for Hillary to drop out. Problem is, the current brand of know-it-all, know-best Democrats running that party into the ground don’t know anything about intelligence. Shame the young Democrats (i.e. Class of 2006, Rep. Herseth-Sandlin) just entering Congress aren’t doing enough to stop it.

HotAirJosef on April 14, 2008 at 12:22 AM

This is an exceedingly weird period in American presidential history. I was about to note that of the only two living Democrat ex-presidents, one is a failed old lefty loon whose credibility doesn’t extend even remotely to the moderate edges of his party, and the other is Hillary “husband.” After that, for “party elders” you have to look to losers like Gore and Kerry, and bloated old buffoons like Kennedy.

Then I realized that there’s only one living Republican ex-president, and he’s W’s dad… and Bill Clinton’s buddy.

Does anybody remember how just 8 or 9 months ago it looked like the Democrats couldn’t lose? Now it looks like there’s no way they can win? How weak a field of candidates do you have to have… how poorly do you have to run your campaigns… how motley an assortment of associates do you have to have… and how many whoppers and flip-flops do you have to commit… such that you’re going to need a miracle to beat JOHN McCAIN???
