Besides the lack of film, might one of the reasons it didn’t receive national coverage be that the perpetrators are minorities, not something the media wants to highlight?

It reminds me of Citibank’s Identity theft commercials, plenty of the victims were minorities but none of the voices of the perpetrators appeared to be.

I would rather watch Springer anyway, if the Springer show can not make you feel better about yourself nothing will.

Since I retired three years ago, I made it a daily practice to watch Jerry, for the amusement if nothing else. But about a month ago he had a series of shows with Jason – a 400 pound gay guy who dressed like a woman and liked to run around on stage in just his drawers on. It had now gone past amusement to just plain disgusting. I thought, what good is this doing me? None, I answered and stopped watching. I just found out my cable provider no longer carries Jerry. There are better things to do anyway.

The guilty party here is us, the public, who watch this crap and thus contribute to Dr. Phil’s ratings, encouraging him to do more things like this. We are complicit.

That would be “we the public.” I’ve never watched that show, and haven’t seen an episode of Oprah for 10 years, except for when it was playing in a waiting room where I couldn’t change the channel.

I’ve not seen Survivor or American Idol or any of those other dumb shows either. So I’m not taking any blame for this crap, thankyouverymuch.

I don’t know how you can assume that none of us have been working on ourselves to elevate the culture (or that we haven’t been encouraging others to do likewise).

We’re clearly both on the same side here, facing a common enemy. I know lots of people who are working hard to fight the disintegration of our culture, so I’m not sure what would give you the impression that I think noone’s lifting a finger to change anything.

I have no interest in fighting with you… we are on the same team, and you sound like a wonderful soul who’s working hard to change our culture. I wish you all the best.

Among other things, I’ve spent the last twenty-two+ years rearing my kids and teaching them so they won’t be like Dr. Phil and his ilk. I have a daughter now in college who has steadily gone against the flow of garbage there.

I worked with him back in 1984 when he was an afternoon radio ‘host’ on WERE-AM in Cleveland. Trust me – he was far from entertaining to deal/work with.

I don’t watch any of this stuff… I don’t even have a TV. I do feel personally responsible for not doing more to elevate our culture, though. I find it strange that there are people like you who are quick to distance themselves from any responsibility for their own civilization’s culture.

Unless you live in a bubble, you’re participating in the culture in one way or another. It’s odd that there are people who are offended by such an obvious truth. We all need to cooperate and work on ourselves to elevate our culture and get rid of scum like Dr. Phil.

It’s amazing that people are actually calling out Oprah on this one. Dr. Phil is his own person with his own screwups. Oprah has essentially kicked him to the curb in favor of some other dude anyway. But since Oprah endorsed Obama, I guess that makes her Satan.
