Revealed: Huckabee’s new mystery project is…
posted at 12:32 pm on April 11, 2008 by Allahpundit
Ta da — the same as Romney’s.
Not that he is declaring his candidacy for 2012–just yet. (He will tell you that he was the youngest Republican candidate to run this cycle.) He is starting slower, with a debut next week of Huck PAC, a new political action committee to support other conservative candidates for federal office, including John McCain’s presidential campaign. “I want to continue to build the community,” he said Thursday night, in a conference call with thousands of supporters organized by Charisma, a magazine for evangelicals.
He’s also got a book in the works, which Time guesses will be used as a vehicle to air his grievances against prominent evangelicals for not genuflecting to identity politics and reflexively supporting the “Christian leader” in the race. (Vintage Huck sample quote: “Some really worship at the altar of electability.”) His and Mitt’s PACs have the same goal in the broadest sense and in the narrowest sense, i.e. building influence within the party, but trust Huck to use his to try to cultivate that peculiar populist blend of class resentment and religious resentment among Christian conservatives that didn’t quite metastasize for him this time. For the moment, though, he’s on board with the establishment.
Exit question: Everyone else as excited as I am for another protracted, bitter battle for the soul of social conservatism between Huck and Mitt? Jindalmania!

Dead Hand Control on April 11, 2008 at 12:43 PM
Preparing for a possible McCain loss or a failed presidency, Huck wants to appoint himself as King of the Evangelicals for at least the next four years. Expect to see him making the rounds of the TV news shows and major publications to offer up the Mike Huckaee talking points on any issue that can possibly affect conservative Christians during that span, which most of those same outlets will then sanction as the official view of America’s Evangelical Christians, because Huck knows how to work the media better than others do.
Huck will also remain the official sanctioned spokesperson for Dieting Conservative Politicians In Favor of Government Mandates for Healthy Lifestyles — not that there’s a lot of competition out there for that position in the Republican Party (but he’ll come in handy when they need a GOP voice for some nanny state anti-fast food legislation the Democrats come up with).

peacenprosperity on April 11, 2008 at 1:09 PM
Precisely. I’m with Neocon on this one, I’m not going to ever accept Pastor Holiday Inn Express as a leader. If we want an unqualified liberal pretending to be a conservative, there are a number of blue dog Dems who would be less annoying.

“Why would a big taxes, soft on crime, nanny state, immigration flip-flopping, pro-life liberal support conservative candidates?”
Maybe because he is not an easily-led sheep like you who was fooled into believing he is a “big tax, soft on crime, immigration flip-flopping, pro-life liberal” by supporters of a well-documented nanny-state, flip-flopping, Planned Parenthood-donating, former liberal governor of Massachusetts who actually signed legislation funding abortion through tax-revenues.
Romney-supporters…just can’t avoid them can we?
God help the GOP.
Al-Ozarka on April 11, 2008 at 1:12 PM
Sorry, but I’ll take Huck over Mitt any day. Huck’s already done a better job pimping his PAC.
ninjapirate on April 11, 2008 at 1:12 PM
Eh, if that happens the Huckster will just say that he was speaking in tongues.
All of Huck’s fanfare over this project looks pretty silly, considering that it’s just another “Me too!” after Mitt did it.
ReubenJCogburn on April 11, 2008 at 1:15 PM
Heh. I’ll be interested to see if any of this actually pans out. Mitt had a nice PAC before he declared, and it indeed contributed a fair amount around the country to try to elect conservatives. Mitt’s been out campaigning for McCain, the party’s nominee–as much as it must burn him.
He’s been putting in the time. What has Huck done to promote anyone but Huck? Especially if it’s true that Huck’s PAC’s contribute to one person: himself. No wonder he named it after himself.

I’m mostly ignorant about Palin, but isn’t the fact implemented benefits to gay couples and then vetoed the legislature’s attempt to rescind those benefits enough to sink her in social con circles?
Or are social cons getting more nuanced on gay issues than I had thought? I’d be happy to learn that the answer is “yes”.

I could rattle off a list of serial killers and child molesters that should never see the light of day or even be put to death, not 20 years after the crime. Maybe a day after their appeal, bullet in the head, hang em, whatever.
I’m thinking 375 years probably says, “this person should NEVER be let out.”
Oyvey, I could go on bashing Huck on his positions but at this point it’s like kicking puppies. And I like puppies.
Geronimo on April 11, 2008 at 2:20 PM
I think its great.
The more exposure and time spent in the spotlight for these two guys is a good thing. Under the spotlight, as time progresses, people will see what Huck is really about and what his talents really are.
Same is true for Mitt.
And will Mitt will come out looking better and better as people get to know him and people will tire and be less and less impressed with Huck as they get to know him.
Mitt vs Huck, Mitt is
Smarter
More successful
Broader background of success (business, charity, govern.)
Better looking
More conservative track record
Has a better religion (OK, that one was a joke)

Geronimo on April 11, 2008 at 2:43 PM
Your comment reminds us Christians why we have such
big problems with Mike Huckabee in any elected, governing position.
Huckabee does not seem to understand that the Bible itself speaks of “Two Kingdoms, ” and NOT one. Huckabee’s misunderstanding of Romans 13 and other texts
allows him to make subjective appeals (“I feel” or “my heart tells me” or whatever his various past quotes) to justify the release of convicted murderers from prison.
God ordains the Church to be separate from the State because God ordains there to be 2 Kingdoms, not one.
I am an evangelical Christian. But I find the future candidacy of Mike Huckabee to be very troubling.
ColtsFan on April 11, 2008 at 2:47 PM
I was just over reading another thread then came over here. I’ll have to say it’s a good move–a gathering place for the die-hards where they can bash Governor Huckabee and his efforts in peace. Geronimo seems happy looking to Roger Waters for guidance in the Church of the ever-flowing Koolade. Personally I would leave the thread alone. If they’re happy and blissful over here then there’s nothing wrong with that and nobody should be trying to interject reason of any sort.

I do love Kool-Aid. Crystal light is a little more tasty though.
And my serious thoughts on the Huck PAC? I think if he wants to do it, great. I hope he’s doing it to actually get some Republicans elected instead of for his own gain. Somehow I think it’s the later though.
Whereas with Mitt. I believe he really wants to help the party.
I am biased though as a Romney supporter. I like Hucks sense of down-home humor, that’s about it. When I start learning about his record, I’m suprised he lasted as long as he did. Although I could probably think of some reasons he did last as long as he did but we’ve beat that dead horse just about to dust.

(The only true version of the Bible, by the way, is this one. Best book, this one.)
Well, actually your ideas about Hercules & Achilles as postdiluvian Nephilim, or the Indo-Aryan writers of the Vedas as Semites, seem pretty reasonable compared to your holding any hope out for Huckabee.

AH_C on April 11, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Just another example of Huck following instead of leading. Romney has painted Huckabee into a corner on each turn. Romney gives a religion speech muting much of Huckabee’s ammunition. Then when Romney reads the landscape after Super Tuesday, he graciously bows out, and starts consolidating his political capital. Huckabee’s left on his quixotic mission to save America, bleeding any sympathetic clout he may have had. After vacationing with the family, Romney then orchestrates the peace offering with McCain, and Huck is left out in the cold again. For someone with a true gift of pandering, Huckabee can be really slow sometimes. Maybe an MBA and a JD come in handy Huck. Maybe managing in big business can prepare you for big boy decisions. Lacking sound political policy and backing it up with ignorant-big-government platitudes illustrate an ill-advised candidacy. Humor and photogenic posturing cannot compensate for incoherent and incongruent policies. Go back to AA-Arkansas and work on your swing. You have a giant hole in it: it’s called class envy with a great big dose of nannyism.
