Global Warming Watch: Day 22 of Minnesota Spring

posted at 11:05 am on April 11, 2008 by Ed Morrissey
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

I’m still waiting for all of that global warming to arrive in Minnesota.  Today is Day 22 of spring, at least officially, and of course that means more snow in Minnesota.  It began raining yesterday and then reverted back to sleet and snow later in the afternoon.  Right now, we’ve just reached the predicted high temperature for today — a whopping 36 degrees.  We’re expecting more rain and snow today and tonight

The good news?  Sunday we’ll warm up again … to 43.

Day 22 of spring ...

Blowback

Got 6 inches at the house here in Denver…

More expected…

Romeo13 on April 11, 2008 at 11:08 AM

We don’t call it global warming anymore.

It might get colder.

It might get warmer.

It will ALWAYS be your fault.

And of course the scientific case is proven – anyone who says otherwise works for Exxon.

Ares on April 11, 2008 at 11:16 AM

Is Gore up there giving a speech on Global Warming or something? Seems that everyplace he goes to talk about that BS the “global warming” follows.

BobK on April 11, 2008 at 11:17 AM

Perhaps you missed the memo. It’s Global Warming Climate Change.

Climate Change gave us snow this morning in Utah.

TooTall on April 11, 2008 at 11:19 AM

It is a cool spring here. I believe it’s made it to the average high in the Twin Cities once this month, while both February and March were significantly below average in temperature.

nerdbert on April 11, 2008 at 11:20 AM

Gee, I thought the coldest place on the face of the planet was West Branch, MI.

That’s where my dad lives.

He exaggerates (about the weather, anyway).

Cheer up, Ed. I hear that your women are strong, the men are good-looking, and the children are all above average… I know those are fightin’ words! :-)

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 11, 2008 at 11:21 AM

*sigh* Just waxing nostalgic about when Climate Change meant Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

geckomon on April 11, 2008 at 11:24 AM

I have global warming leaking into my basement making me tear my carpet apart so I can dry it out.

Minnesota: the states that disproves global warming on a daily basis.

Pcoop on April 11, 2008 at 11:24 AM

Good luck with that new open air Twins baseball stadium. I’m going to game tonight down here in KC and it’s not supposed to be above 40 all day. Whoopee.

Badger in KC on April 11, 2008 at 11:24 AM

A few days ago, forecasters were forecasting sunny, warm temps for the weekend here in Denver. I just looked at the latest forecast and they’ve lowered their forecasted temps by an avg of 20 degrees!

Al Gore must have changed his travel plans…

CliffHanger on April 11, 2008 at 11:27 AM

I’m still waiting for this supposed Climate Change to get here in Colorado Springs, it’s been a long winter.

saltydogg14 on April 11, 2008 at 11:28 AM

Here in NY, the climate change this morning is overcast, a bit on the chilly and damp side. Expecting additional climate change later. Will keep you and Al Gore advised.

JiangxiDad on April 11, 2008 at 11:29 AM

A hear ya, Ed. In Milwaukee, we’ve broken 50 degrees ONCE so far this year. You can keep your snow, though, we’ve had enough.

Enrique on April 11, 2008 at 11:30 AM

The good news? Sunday we’ll warm up again … to 43.

Anchorage, AK: Currently, 21 with a high of 35. This weekend, low’s in the lower teens and high’s in the lower 40’s.

(But I won’t be here for this weekend..)

Olympia, WA: Currently, 34 with a high in the lower 60’s. this weekend, low’s in the upper 30’s and high’s in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

WHOA… HEAT WAVE for ME! :)

upinak on April 11, 2008 at 11:32 AM

27 degrees here today, blowing snow (about 6 inches of the stuff), schools called off, roads snow packed and ice covered…welcome to Nebraska!

serenity on April 11, 2008 at 11:33 AM

Heck at least you can see grass in the picture. I haven’t seen grass in months!

upinak on April 11, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Don’t even get true conservatives in MN ( all 5 of us) talking about that stadium…… Arrrrrgh!

MNDavenotPC on April 11, 2008 at 11:36 AM

Well, I’m enjoying my last day in San Diego, where it’s supposed to reach 80. Haven’t seen a cloud for a couple of days.

Off to the beach in a bit.

JammieWearingFool on April 11, 2008 at 11:37 AM

JammieWearingFool on April 11, 2008 at 11:37 AM

I’m sorry your vacation was ruined by the climate change. I’m sure you’ll see a cloud again some day.

JiangxiDad on April 11, 2008 at 11:41 AM

I’m in! Well, actually I got in the last time HA opened registration, but this makes it official.

Don’t mind me. I’m just gonna run around like a kid and touch everything. I’ll calm down eventually.

Mr. Wednesday Night on April 11, 2008 at 11:41 AM

I think the scientific community should re-examine Al Gore’s credentials. Oh, never mind. He doesn’t have any.

Syd B. on April 11, 2008 at 11:48 AM

Perhaps you missed the memo. It’s Global Warming Climate Change.

Climate Change gave us snow this morning in Utah.

TooTall on April 11, 2008 at 11:19 AM

Yup. Same thing up here in Northern Utah. I don’t think that we’ve even hit 50 degrees once this year. My bees don’t even know it’s officially spring–they’re in the hives, not flying at all. No trees are even beginning to leaf out and most of my bulbs haven’t even poked up through the soil.

Wish the warming would . . . warm up.

thomashton on April 11, 2008 at 11:57 AM

TooTall on April 11, 2008 at 11:19 AM

Yeah, amazing how the language changes over time…

Back when I was a kid, we called “Climate Change” weather.

Romeo13 on April 11, 2008 at 12:02 PM

Guess I shouldn’t mention that I am wearing my crocs without socks today and wore flip flops yesterday, eh? Supposed to be 80F today.

Normal spring weather here, though.

Bob's Kid on April 11, 2008 at 12:06 PM

At least you can see your grass. There isn’t a blade in sight where I live and there won’t be for days.

And to think I recently told my boy to pack up his winter boots for the year.

Bishop on April 11, 2008 at 12:16 PM

“Climate Change” sounds a little bit too much like …..seasonal weather.

They have to do better than that to keep up the scare.

How about Global Gaia PMS, there is no predicting Mother natures PMS! Hot red eruptions and cold blue stares.

Or maybe Global Menopause with it’s hot flashes and chills.

“Climate change” is as inspiring as tofurkey at Christmas.

BL@KBIRD on April 11, 2008 at 12:21 PM

Climate change?

The climate is always changing. That’s the biggest load of BS in history.

Gore: “The planet has a fever. Uh, no, the planet has uh…A climate. That’s it.

I live in Charlotte, NC. Far south. We are going to hit 39 for a low next week. It’s freaking April. Climate Change?

Isn’t climate change another word for “weather.”

Gore: The planet has…Weather.

Somehow I don’t think that would have won this idiot a Nobel Prize.

upinak on April 11, 2008 at 12:29 PM

Report from Spokane:

Last week we ended up with about 4–7 inches of snow in total (depending on your elevation). FInally, we’re close to normal temps, but this has been a loooooong winter.

mattshu on April 11, 2008 at 12:30 PM

It’s a cloudy 76 here in DC and it’s supposed to rain all weekend long.

Dubn8tr on April 11, 2008 at 12:33 PM

The Democrats said it would be a cold day in Hell when we started winning in Iraq. I guess some of the temperature is seeping upward. I’m expecting the Devil to field an NHL team next year.

michaelo on April 11, 2008 at 12:45 PM

No more snow in Hartford, but it was in the 20’s last week under clear skies, and the trees look like…winter.

If Al Gore is really worried about global warming, why doesn’t he make some speeches from places that would be most affected by it, like Marquette, MI or Caribou, ME? Trouble is, the white background might belie his words!

If the climate is really getting warmer, Gore won’t have to heat his swimming pool in Tennessee any more, right?

But a cold year might be a blessing in disguise. Maybe next year’s Congress and President might think twice about wasting trillions of dollars to limit soda-pop gas, if a little warming starts to look like a GOOD thing!

Steve Z on April 11, 2008 at 12:49 PM

We started winning in Iraq, and it snowed in Baghdad!

Steve Z on April 11, 2008 at 12:50 PM

michaelo on April 11, 2008 at 12:45 PM

you live in Hell?

upinak on April 11, 2008 at 12:51 PM

All Karl Rove’s fault:

CONCORD, NH — The heavy snowfall in Concord, New Hampshire, this winter is four inches short of the record. Or maybe it’s two inches.

It turns out the woman who makes the official measurements for the National Weather Service in her back yard was in Florida for a week when 13 inches fell in mid-January. And so was her backup, who is her roommate.

Here in the Socialist People’s City of Madison, Wisconsin, we keep waiting for the Governor to wield his mighty ‘Veto Pen of New Law Creation®‘ to outlaw Spring and Summer. That way, the University of Wisconsin ‘Moon Bats’ can play ‘football’ and hockey all year ’round. Of course, the school is not Army (not even they could stomach all the socialism UWofM indoctrinates teaches its students) and they can’t won’t play Navy so everything is meaningless.

SeniorD on April 11, 2008 at 1:03 PM

Global warming causes global cooling, you see.

Riposte on April 11, 2008 at 1:07 PM

I grew up in Wyoming. Where we used to say there was two seasons. There was winter, and the forth of July. You couldn’t really guarantee that it wouldn’t snow on the Forth of July, but it was reasonably rare.

Just went to lunch and saw the greatest personalized license plate on a GMC Yukon, it said “GBL WMR”. Loved it!

DerKrieger on April 11, 2008 at 1:24 PM

No snow here but climate change is going to be a frightening 8 degrees below average today here in Rochester, NY.

Here’s a toast to Gore frittering away that $300M before all this climate change put the kabosh on this AGP shinola.

BTW, England had climate change snow a couple of days ago, the latest they’ve had it since 1989.

Dusty on April 11, 2008 at 1:38 PM

The existing climate models have all been discredited insofar as none of them can give an accurate “prediction” even after the fact. That is the point of the whole thing, bad models combined with the fact that global atmospheric temperatures, as measured by satellite instruments, have been constant or falling for ten years now, the data showing no rise in sea temperatures warn us that a lot more study is needed before we start making human sacrifices to Gaia.

As for the CO2 thing, the long term geological data seem to show that CO2 levels are lagging indicators which should exclude their use as short term predictors which the scare mongers would have us believe.

My prediction is that on August 20, 4,500,002,008 A.D. the small red star once known as Nova Sol will start its final collapse into white dwarf status. This will be the final cooling cycle in what was a long history of heating and cooling of that star not fully understood by the faithful of the ancient cult lead by one called Rev. Al Gore (Goracle). The holy one with all his accumulated carbon trading wealth will have been long forgotten as entropy moves on.

Annar on April 11, 2008 at 1:45 PM

I am sick of having to wear my winter coat, scrape my car, wear my Sorels to walk the dog, drive in this crap – oh and the wind flung my glass storm door open and shattered it up against the handrails of my front steps. Global Warming I wish. Everyone here in MN is depressed – including my dog – because we haven’t seen the sun in so long and we’ve just stopped believing in Spring. I never thought I would be homesick for DC, (my hometown). But I am.

foxforce91 on April 11, 2008 at 1:51 PM

But for free speech that boldly speaks truth we are all slaves to anyone that asserts that we are guilty for living and breathing. If you give up quietly so as not to offend these slave catchers (The high priests of the government rules and protection racquet)there may not be anymore volunteers to come and save you at their risk. Remember we threw out Faith in God that inspired the American self sacrifice ethic of past years.

I’m still waiting for this supposed Climate Change to get here in Colorado Springs, it’s been a long winter.

saltydogg14

Well, the snow let up… at least for now in NW CoSpgs. May be rain/snow off & on today. Looks like Sunday will be better, Tuesday is when it really will warm up here.

Assuming the weather report for Colorado is correct… hmm, sorry; I shouldn’t be dumb enough to make that assumption. :)

Ed, we got more snow here on the north side of the cities..

The grass is totally covered.. probably 2″

It’s cold here in Texas too (cool by Minnesota standards). Sigh, how I long for those 100+ degree days…

docdave on April 11, 2008 at 4:20 PM

So, they’re saying that the climate keeps changing… and this is some kind of emergency… and we need to revamp our entire economy and ride electric buses and live in tents or whatever.

You know, I liked Reagan a lot, but I’m thinking maybe he shouldn’t have closed all those public mental institutions in California.

‘Cause it’s like a major cultural movement now, this dissociative schizophrenia thing.

Today is Day 22 of spring, at least officially, and of course that means more snow in Minnesota.

Conversation between the teen-age cashier and bagboy at the grocery checkout today…

(BB) – I know this stinks…

(Me) – Gotta love that global warming eh?

(C) – What global warming?
