Tip: Randi Rhodes lands new gig, will broadcast on Clear Channel

posted at 3:35 pm on April 10, 2008 by Allahpundit

Yeah, I know: “Who cares?” Well, she’s in the news today, it’s exceedingly rare that we get tips which themselves constitute news, and the source is solid. I quote from his e-mail:

Not sure if you care about this at all but here some info on the Rhodes situation…

She’s going to be signing a deal with Nova M Radio in the next few hours for about the same money Air America was paying her. She will broadcast Monday afternoon on all Clear Channel affiliates and several other stations. The folks at Air America don’t miss her one bit… She has moved from New York City to West Palm Beach, FL…

They’ve been planning since she was suspended but the deal is solid now…

Nova M’s another liberal outfit, of course, and was co-founded by Sheldon Drobny, who also founded … Air America. Isn’t Rhodes persona non grata now among progressives, thanks to her Hillary/whore comment? Not really. Watch the clip; there are plenty of cheers and laughter from the audience. Besides, judging from this blog post, Drobny may be less concerned these days than he used to be with what the liberal intelligentsia thinks of him.

The tipster’s not the only one claiming that Rhodes won’t be missed at AAR. HuffPo’s sources for its item about her allegedly refusing to apologize for the Hillary comment claim there’s “relief and joy” at her departure. Good luck, Sheldon! Exit quotation: “Sometimes it’s for the best that the leading player leaves so you can rebuild with better talent.” Er, rebuild what?

Why can’t she relocate to Gaza, Khartoum, Mogadishu, Havana, Islamabad, Pyongyang or some other place worthy of her fine cultural sensitivities?

robblefarian on April 10, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Lucky for her she didn’t call Hillary a f-ing “Ho”, or she would have had to wait a couple of more weeks to get a new job, like Imus.

George Antrobes on April 10, 2008 at 3:45 PM

I’m sure she will have a drink or two to celebrate.

TroubledMonkey on April 10, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Only in America can someone make hundreds of thousands dollars a year and produce nothing.

Lance Murdock on April 10, 2008 at 3:46 PM

I clicked over to Nova M. She’s already on the air – now.

eeyore on April 10, 2008 at 3:48 PM

“She will broadcast Monday afternoon on all Clear Channel affiliates…”

Why all this coverage for a once a week show? What’s she on, three hours a week? You could probably play crickets chirping and get more listeners, and it would be relatively more cogent.

Is Lambchops making the move to Fl too? (You may have to be old to get it)

She has moved…to West Palm Beach, FL

Just across the bay from El Rushbo!

George Antrobes on April 10, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Incorrect, sir. She would have been in deeper trouble if she had used the phrase “n@ppy-headed”, like Mr. Imus.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 10, 2008 at 3:58 PM

Wait, I thought that Clear Channel was some RNC stooge.

The_Freeze on April 10, 2008 at 3:59 PM

Of course not. Hillary is a whore when viewed from the left, and calling her such (from that side) is honest, noble, and wonderfully edgy. Slinging that word at Clinton from the right – that would be the height of misogyny, sufficient to permanently snuff out any career in the public eye (not to mention invoke the righteous ire of Sir Reginald). Rhodes, on the other hand, was simply expressing her opinion. And deigning to question that opinion is tantamount to stripping her of her civil rights. Ever heard of the First Amendment? Fascists, all of you.

Landing on her feet?

Yeah, but could someone slash her vocal cords? Please?

The only thing that is worse is a Hillary stump speech on an endless loop.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 10, 2008 at 4:02 PM

They are just putting her on the air so that she can make outrageous and slanderous charges against McCain later in the campaign.. :{

Chakra Hammer on April 10, 2008 at 4:03 PM

If Clear Channel has the cash to throw away…..
They may be hiring her in anticipation of a revival of the “Fairness Doctrine”.

There I said it. AP will be forced to disown me now.

I think you mean “Hooves”.

Clear Channel stock just took a nose dive, kinda like Randi on the sidewalk.

I’m stunned someone would hire this fruitcake again.

Uhhh…Sorry, can’t help you there.

On the bright side, Ketel stock is soaring.

That CIA airline from about 35 years ago, I think.

Rick on April 10, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Rhodes getting shunned by her own folks is eerily similar to Ann Coulter being banned from CPAC.

THE CHOSEN ONE on April 10, 2008 at 4:13 PM

She thought they said Everclear Challenge and said, “I’m in!”

Jim Treacher on April 10, 2008 at 4:13 PM

Landing on her feet? I guess this time she’s accusing a conservative of kicking her in the air while she was out walking her dog, right?

Another report says she’s going back to Green960 in San Fran.

RMCS_USN on April 10, 2008 at 4:13 PM

I had never heard of her until she was mentioned on this blog. With luck and determination I can forget about her.

Isn’t Rhodes persona non grata now among progressives, thanks to her Hillary/whore comment?

A lot of people hate Hillary.

I went to Mardi Gras in New Orleans for the first time this year and hung out with some friends who live there. During the last day’s parade of costumes two people were dressed up like the Clintons and both had fake “members” hanging out.

Those two costumes were just as popular as the man dressed up as Uncle Sam asking people to vote Republican to help the rich.

Esthier on April 10, 2008 at 4:36 PM

How do I get a job like hers?? Piss off the boss, get an offer elsewhere to come do the exact same thing. The Media is the epitome of burning money just for fun.

leftnomore on April 10, 2008 at 4:41 PM

Wait, Clear Channel owns the Air America station in my town…

B26354 on April 10, 2008 at 4:47 PM

I wonder if her 5 listeners will follow her over?

William Teach on April 10, 2008 at 5:43 PM

I think Clear Channel is confusing her for Randy Rhoads. One is dead, one’s career is dead.

HockeyTemper on April 10, 2008 at 5:50 PM

Right about Hillary. Wrong about everything else.

whitetop on April 10, 2008 at 5:55 PM

I, for one, am glad she is landing on her feet this time. If she’d landed on her face again, the left would have just blamed us…

Kevin71 on April 10, 2008 at 5:59 PM

She is really disgusting and unlistenable. I do not always agree with Sean, or Savage but they are entertaining and they have great shows which make my ride home a bit easy.

As awfull as Randi Rhodes is and as much as she makes me want to puke, I do not think people should be fired or lose their radio gigs for what they say. This is a very dangerous slippery slope that even Sean Hannity knows. And one reason I really respect Sean is that as disgusting as Randi Rhodes is, he knows where all of this censorship and being afraid to say things will lead.

What I would like to know is what did Randi say about Imus? Did she agree with the firing? Also, why did Air America never have a problem with all this horrific speech when it was directed towards the President and conservatives. It was only when she said stuff about her own that Air America did anything.

Bottom Line: we should not censor radio and radio does not have to be nice. But also it is great to watch the far left eat their own.

She has moved from New York City to West Palm Beach, FL…

Oh no! she’s getting closer to me!

Ann on April 10, 2008 at 6:35 PM

Rhodes on Clear Channel? Is that enemy territory? Something about Mitt Romney’s Bain Capital trying to control the airwaves. All these Lefty conspiracy theories get all jumbled together in my head.

seanhackbarth on April 10, 2008 at 8:20 PM

She has moved from New York City to West Palm Beach, FL…

…where she will join 95,000 other people from New York to complain about how much Florida is not New York.

Perpetual Student on April 10, 2008 at 9:41 PM

Will anyone other then her 5 listeners notice the move?

William Teach on April 10, 2008 at 9:47 PM

I hope they don’t put her on Clear Channel’s flagship station WOAI. I’d hate to remove that one from my presets.
