Video: Innocent Mets fan promotion goes horribly, horribly wrong
posted at 10:11 pm on April 9, 2008 by Allahpundit
Never have I been more tempted to switch my allegiance to the Yankees.
Didn’t they see it coming? Didn’t they know how dangerous it was?

I just smiled a little in my soul.

A whole stadium gets rickrolled…I guess FARK is good for something after all.
Dr. Manhattan on April 9, 2008 at 10:18 PM
I voted online for that song to be the “Stretch” song.
Yes, I really am that evil.
Mortis on April 9, 2008 at 10:18 PM
HAHAHAHA. It fits the biggest bunch of metrosexuals in the majors.
Mark V. on April 9, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Just as a legal question, isn’t it kosher for an anti-Yankee fan to switch alliance to the Dodgers now via enemy of my enemy, Torre vs. Stenbucks? Or is once evil, always evil.
Spirit of 1776 on April 9, 2008 at 10:20 PM
HAHAHAHAHAAA!!! I wondered when you’d react to this, Allah.
doubleplusundead on April 9, 2008 at 10:20 PM
While that made me smile now, I’m pretty sure I’m going to have nightmares when I go to bed.
Sadly, I used to like that song…
the goddess anna on April 9, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Did WE just get Rickrolled, AP?
Claypigeon on April 9, 2008 at 10:21 PM
ALWAYS root against the Yankees!
Gatordoug on April 9, 2008 at 10:21 PM
wtf?
Jaibones on April 9, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Dude, I wrote in on that like 100 times. Seriously. SCORE!
BTW, I found this vid of a guy that cheated the Mets website and got it to count his vote for Astley over and over again.
malan89 on April 9, 2008 at 10:31 PM
That is so awesome! Stupid Mets fans, how dare they boo the Rickroll!
doubleplusundead on April 9, 2008 at 10:31 PM
Damn that had to hurt.
F15Mech on April 9, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Really, that was uber weak.
It’s Shea’s fault for trying to mimic what Sox fans have with the Sweet Caroline. They should have known that nobody would sing.
malan89 on April 9, 2008 at 10:36 PM
I don’t know what you’re talking about. I didn’t click “Other” and put in “Never Gonna Give You Up – Rick Astley”.
I swear.
MadisonConservative on April 9, 2008 at 10:38 PM
That kid was extremely annoying.
SouthernGent on April 9, 2008 at 10:39 PM
Gotta ask since this has become a cultural “hit” Does Rick Astley have a new album coming out?
highhopes on April 9, 2008 at 10:39 PM
White people like rick astley.
lorien1973 on April 9, 2008 at 10:41 PM
Speaking as a rabid Mets fan……..it’s O.K.
Most of the team won’t understand the song since it’s sung in English.
crashman on April 9, 2008 at 10:42 PM
Oh man, that is hilarious! Teh Internets is teh power!
WisCon on April 9, 2008 at 10:43 PM
Some of us in Southern California are a little slow, or work to much, or want to spend as much time with their families to even know what “rickrolled” is…….
To that, “rickrolled” is…………. Teh Ghey!

Seven Percent Solution on April 9, 2008 at 10:45 PM
Can we stop this madness already? Being Rick Rolled twice in one week is enough, esp. via HotAir.
I didn’t think it was that slow of a news day.
RMCS_USN on April 9, 2008 at 10:49 PM
if you don’t come to the RickRoll, the RickRoll will come to you. could you actually imagine walking into a conference room and starting in on that? i couldn’t.
malan89 on April 9, 2008 at 10:49 PM
BANNED.
malan89 on April 9, 2008 at 10:50 PM
I don’t know if he has any new stuff coming out, but he is supposed to be going on tour with a couple of 80′s pop groups soon.
doubleplusundead on April 9, 2008 at 10:54 PM
This whole rick-rolled thing is really starting to piss me off!
TheBigOldDog on April 9, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Great Caesar’s’ Ghost!……….. Don’t you know what you have started here people?
Prediction………. Hillary will “pretend” to have been “Rick-Rolled” on her next campaign speech.
Seven Percent Solution on April 9, 2008 at 11:02 PM
Don’t you dare!
Eh, it’s all in good fun I guess. I’m actually gonna miss Shea after this year. Good times.
JetBoy on April 9, 2008 at 11:14 PM
Everyone got Rickroll’d!
ZOMG!!1
Good Lt on April 9, 2008 at 11:17 PM
As a mets fan I am much more bothered by their decision to change the name of Shea Stadium to Citi Park….absolutley disgusting.
irish_infidel on April 9, 2008 at 11:20 PM
I’m right there with ya. Money talks, tho. At least is sounds good. But I’d rather they called it “Jackie Robinson Field”. This corporate stadium/arena name thing has got to go.
JetBoy on April 9, 2008 at 11:26 PM
It’s this or he can go into his “ignorant godbags” schtick to troll for pageviews.
TBinSTL on April 9, 2008 at 11:32 PM
That’s cool, I’ll just expect you to reimburse me for the higher ticket prices. It’ll be worth it, right?
malan89 on April 9, 2008 at 11:34 PM
Sorry, Allahpundit, but as a crossover poster from Captain’s Quarters I have to voice a complaint.
Many of your posts start off with a link to a video, either youtube or otherwise, but you have to remember that some people are still on dialup, and for us to even wait and watch such videos downloading can take a prohibitive amount of time.
In my case, I have no choice, as even tough I live in an elite neighborhood (average home value $500,000), the Zoning Board in my town established that the minimum lot size for where I live is 10 acres per house. As a result, even though most of my town was wired for cable in the 1970s, they never came up here because it’s not economically feasible-when you only have 6 houses at most per one mile of road frontage, it ain’t gonna fly.
Likewise, my caring telephone company, Verizon, has no interest in upgrading their wires or getting into the cable business. Our power company, PSNH, was run out of business by the tree-huggers in the late 1970s, and then took a major hit with the Great Ice Storm of 1998 and had to rebuild their entire infrastructure in my neighborhood, so I am getting the bird from them as well.
I sure as hell can’t afford to pay $70 or so extra a month on top of my DirecTV bill ($50 a month) to get Directway satellite ISP, so the only way I can watch any Youtube is to sit and warch it download. Typically, I only have a 45.6 connection speed.
In my case, I am losing out because I’m not poor, but the other way around. As I said, the evarage home value where I am is a half a million bucks. But we have 45.6 bps.
All Bush’s fault?
Del Dolemonte on April 9, 2008 at 11:37 PM
Yes. It would be worth it.
huh?
JetBoy on April 9, 2008 at 11:38 PM
Just remember I deserve a hat tip.
Shy Guy on April 9, 2008 at 11:39 PM
I know, the Big Bad Yankees. Isn’t that the same Steinbucks…..I mean Steinbrenner family that goes out of their way for our armed forces? Continues to this day pay homage to them in the middle of the 7th (No disrespect intended to my Metropolitans fans friends, I honestly do not know if they still do in Shea)??
Big Bad Yankees indeed. C’mon over boys and girls. The water in the Bronx is just fine =]]

You don’t remember that run for a while where there was something sure to tick off the Christians here posted almost daily? It got lots of hits and comments and AP got into the arguments more often in those than anything I can remember.
I’d rather have Ric Astley, is all I’m saying.
TBinSTL on April 10, 2008 at 12:06 AM
AP is so totally rolled for Astley…
Wind Rider on April 10, 2008 at 12:08 AM
This corporate stadium/arena name thing has got to go.
Ladies and gentlemen….welcome to YANKEE STADIUM.
wcrego on April 10, 2008 at 12:14 AM
I missed the whole thing, apparently. Some New Yawkas are drinking and yukking it up, and then the announcer mumbles some inaudible crap, and then plays a largely inaudible dusty old song that the fans boo, being rude New Yawkas who anyway just want to see some baseball, not listen to some random dusty song. Wow, did that rock my world. Can I have my five minutes back? I had to go watch this
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QKCVS57j284 to get my attitude back together.
smellthecoffee on April 10, 2008 at 12:24 AM
Booing Ric? It’s no wonder we call you “Mutts.”
Dude, have you ever smelled the Harlem River?

Del, have a look at the cartoon figure at the top of the page, on the righthand side. What do you see? What is the man holding in his hand?
I’m quoting Michelle from Hot Air’s About page:

I hate to break this to you, but higher ticket prices are part of the deal.
-New ball park-with fewer seats.
-Huge government subsidies-to the tune of 600 million dollars-courtesy of NY taxpayers.
-Higher ticket prices in order to attract the corporate douches who are primarily responsible for the increase.
The least they could do is not ruin the name of a decent professional sports stadium. Not that I care, since watching baseball is about as attractive to me as tuning in MSG to watch the horror show presided over by the Dolan family right now.
Gerard on April 10, 2008 at 4:13 AM
Funny. Guess this is before my time. Who the heck is Rick Astley?
Dubn8tr on April 10, 2008 at 7:39 AM
And now, thanks to your comment, it’ll take everyone else on dialup 32 minutes longer to load the page.
I kid because I love!
DrSteve on April 10, 2008 at 7:59 AM
I’m sorry about the triple posting. I had trouble getting the page to refresh and eventually gave up on posting the comment at all, not knowing I’d already posted it three times.
Kralizec on April 10, 2008 at 8:57 AM
This is why the Mets will always be the red-headed stepchild of New York baseball. I mean, trying to force a tradition like that wreaks of a bad morning radio show promotion. Finally, the worst part about it is they are trying to copy the most classless fans in baseball up there in Boston. I mean, really?
Let’s go Yankees!
kcluva on April 10, 2008 at 9:54 AM
The important thing to remember about rickrolling is that you can’t tell anyone you’ve been rickrolled. Instead, you praise the awesomeness of the video.
Krydor on April 10, 2008 at 10:16 AM
Is this supposed to be about something?
