Not to stir the hornet’s next here, and correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Nelson Mandela’s previous career terrorism? Notwithstanding the fact that the Soviet-bankrolled and sponsored ANC’s illicit violence was occasionally directed at less than admirable figures in an avowedly undemocratic government-when it wasn’t being used to kill political opponents, Zulus, etc.-it was still not so far from the terrorist norm that it couldn’t be appreciated, in retrospect, by someone like Hamas’s Mr. Big.
