Coming soon: Huckabee touts mystery announcement; Update: “New political entity”?

Prime fodder for a slow news day. The countdown clock points to April 15, which means smart money is on something having to do with the Fair Tax, but NBC notes that he’s giving a speech that night at Cornell on religion. Any guesses? I’m thinking a remake of “Voyagers” with Chuck Norris as Phineas and Huck in the Meeno Peluce role. Or, just possibly, the unveiling of a new PAC.
Exit question: Is he really going to make taxes the cornerstone of Huckabee 2.0? It’s red meat, but at this moment in time just sort of … random.
Update: Headlines comments imported!
Update: His daughter told NBC that the countdown had to do with a website redesign. It’s a little more ambitious than that:
Mike Huckabee will hold a conference call with supporters tomorrow night to discuss his plans for a new political entity and to assure them that he plans to keep an active presence in this campaign and in future cycles, according to an aide.
He’ll be joined on the call by Steve Strang, a Christian publisher and Huckabee backer whose magazine, “Charisma,” just ran a very flattering cover piece on the former candidate that touts his future prospects.
“You will hear insider information about Huckabee’s scrappy campaign that surprised the nation and stunned Republican Party elites,” promises Strang in an email to Huckabee backers. “The ‘preacher who dared to be president’ will also discuss his plans for the future and reflect on the changing state of the conservative movement.”

Mike should know he has zero chance of winning the republican nomination in 2012. In 2012 Gov Bobby will run and he will be our nominee.

Jindal? Doubtful. He’s digging in for the long haul that is trying to revive Louisiana from the one the lowest performing states to one of the highest.
He’s a 2016 candidate if anything. He’s only 36 years old.

He’s quite serious. I have the e-mails to prove it.

For simplicity’s sake in his next campaign he’s changing his name to… Mike Huck.

My comments about Huckabee were very on topic for this thread.
If you are ready to ban me for making a personal comment about you in relation to Jesus Christ, I don’t see how that is much different than the Indonesians banning Fitna.
If you are going to ban me, I respectfully ask that you get agreement with Michelle and Captain Ed before doing so.
Red Pill on April 9, 2008 at 4:19 PM
Comments about Huckabee are on topic; using Huckabee as an excuse to proselytize is not, no more than someone who works for IBM jumping in to say, “I bet Huck really digs IBM computers.”
I already responded to you on this point in another thread but I guess I have to do it again. Indonesia is censoring Fitna because they find Wilders’s point intolerable or threatening; I’m “censoring” you because you’re off-topic. If and when we post a thread requesting proselyzation from commenters, by all means, fire away.
I’ve never done that before, nor did Bryan, nor has Ed, and we’re not going to start now. Why you think you’re a special exception that warrants a committee hearing as opposed to anyone else who’s been banned is beyond me.
Allahpundit on April 9, 2008 at 4:26 PM
Welcome to Hot Air, a private incorporated entity. Here at Hot Air, you live by Allah/Michelle/Ed’s rules or your privileges (Note: Not rights) are taken away. Indonesia is a country where people live and are denied basic human rights. Hot Air is a blog where you live by the blog owner’s commenting rules or go somewhere else.
Put down whatever you’re smoking and back away from it. If John McCain can’t beat Obama, a 3rd party Huckabee candidacy doesn’t have half of a snowball’s chance in hell. He can’t even garner a majority of support from Evangelicals.
So you’re actually suggesting that A) God wants Huckabee to win, B) He’ll knock back McCain and Obama to do so. If Allah doesn’t believe in God now, a Huckabee win isn’t going to make him religious.

The Living God asked me to write a “Love Letter” from Him to Allahpundit on Valentine’s Day.
I was obedient and did so. (I’ve learned the hard way that when God asks me to do something, I better do it…disobedience brings punishments, obedience brings blessings…that’s no different than how any parent treats their child.)
On the same day that God used me to send a message of love, Satan used Steven Kazmierczak to send a message of hate.
HotAir readers, don’t be deceived. God loves you. Satan hates you. Both God and Satan work through people.
May God Bless You All

Seriously, you’re a parodist, right? The Living God commanded you to write a “Love Letter” to an anonymous political blogger on Valentine’s Day?
amerpundit on April 9, 2008 at 4:41 PM
People who claim to understand the mind of God should be…well, that’d be another argument against evolution and intelligent design, for that matter.
Meet Red Pill, everybody, a man who had a religious awakening recently…
Allahpundit
I had a religious awakening recently. How that translates into being an obnoxious child still defies my comprehension.
Ah, AP, you’ll come around. Eventually.
And then you too will ask Hucksabee: Why’d you quit the job God called you to? I mean, really, did God make a mistake in calling you to be a minister of His Word? Did He really?
jrl on April 9, 2008 at 4:43 PM
The Living God asked me to write a “Love Letter” from Him to Allahpundit on Valentine’s Day.
Whiskey, my friend. God is telling you drink more. That’s what He told me. And so, I do.

The 1st Amendment is about the protection of religious speech. If I am banned from HotAir for religious speech, that is a sad, sad thing.
What I said about Allahpundit is not proselytizing…it’s prophecy. Just like what I have said about Huckabee is prophecy.
Am I crazy? Or am I a modern-day example of God using people to deliver prophecy? Time will tell.
Red Pill on April 9, 2008 at 4:45 PM
The 1st Amendment prohibits Congress from making any laws respecting the establishment of religion. This is a private entity that doesn’t, A) want you going off topic, B) Spouting off the religious prophecy you believe in on a thread about a candidate’s website.
I’m going with Door #1.

Please be careful in saying what “God said.” I for one am another Christian who would much prefer you offer your opinion as your opinion.
I’m going to be more direct than I was last time you stated “God told you” Huckabee would win. I do not speak for God, but Huckabee isn’t going to be our next president. You only make yourself, and other Christians by association, look foolish when you state that a man who withdrew from the race over a month ago (March 4?) will win the office.
Please stop. Now.

On the topic at hand, I have to say the “Coming Soon” label seems a bit… messianic to me.
Has Huckabee identified the time and date of the Lord’s return? (Couldn’t help myself).
cs89 on April 9, 2008 at 4:53 PM
Good choice - Allah’s already warned him recently on this old-thread where he started spaming again for exactly that.
Why does it always have to go there man… Can’t we just talk about how Huckabee is a blight on the
conservativeliberal, political landscape?SkinnerVic on April 9, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Yeah, and the sad truth is that I let him get away with more precisely because he’s using religion in breaking the rules. If I ban him as summarily as I’d ban someone else, I get accused of being biased against Christians or whatever. So he gets five extra chances as opposed to someone else getting one. Some atheist I am.
Allahpundit on April 9, 2008 at 4:59 PM
I think you’ve been very patient, but you’ve also been patient with myself, Cold Steel, Bambi, Tzetzes having to deal with the crap spew that comes with every Mitt / Anti-Huck post that degrades. You know the culprits, you know the shtick. I appreciate you allowing us the privilege of calling them out. Back to topic…
BTW, which number is he on anyway?
SkinnerVic on April 9, 2008 at 5:05 PM
There were 12 amendments in the original Bill of Rights. 10 were ratified in 1791, 1 was ratified in 1992, and 1 has not been ratified.
Each of those 12 amendments was a single thought process. Don’t subdivide an amendment into more than one thought process…if it was more than one thought process, they would have split it up to begin with…there wasn’t one single amendment with multiple thought processes, there were 12 distinct amendments each with a single thought process.
Read the first amendment as a single thought process:
The thought process of the first amendment is to protect the Church from the Government, not to protect the Government from the Church.
The thought process of the first amendment is to protect the Church from a State-run religion (like the Church of England, which was controlled by the King), protect the free exercise of religion, protect the freedom of religious speech, the freedom of the religious press, the freedom of religious assembly, and the freedom for religious people to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Um. Red Pill. Look. In order for you be a Prophet of some sort, you should probably know how to read. I mean, even Jesus could cite the Old Testament - meaning, likely, either He could read or He could understand someone who could read. So, yeah, read that again, and notice the first few words.
To wit: Congress shall make no law…
So, do you suppose Hot Air or, specifically, Allahpundit is Congress?

Michelle and Captain Ed,

Red Pill on April 9, 2008 at 5:19 PM
I’d say this constitutes your fifth of those five extra chances I mentioned above. Neither Michelle nor Ed know your history of spamming on this site the way I do, nor that it warranted me having to ban you once before. Michelle approved the terms of use of this site when it first started, including the one about off-topic comments. Trying to go over my head here isn’t going to get me reprimanded.
As I say, this is your last chance. Lay off the off-topic stuff, stick to the subjects at hand, and you’ll be fine.

Ouch. As a Christian, I’d rather not get any special treatment and would come to your defense if you were attacked for banning anyone.
Rod on April 9, 2008 at 5:37 PM
The topic of this thread is Mike Huckabee. Mike Huckabee is a Christian and is open about his Christianity. You seem to have no problem with people saying all sorts of nasty things about Huckabee and evangelical Christians. People have said nasty things to me including “Burn in Hell”. You didn’t ban them. I personally think that telling someone to “Burn in Hell” is a lot more offensive than anything I have said to you.
Allahpundit, I respect your authority on this site. You have every right to ban me unilaterally if you so desire. In my opinion, that would be another example of what we see all around the globe…the last thing I said before you banned me before.
At first I thought it had been OneGyT who banned me because OneGyT posted a ban warning right before I was banned (February 14, 2008 at 12:14 PM) and a response right after I was banned (February 14, 2008 at 12:24 PM), without any indication from you that I was banned. Either OneGyT is really you, or OneGyT is omniscient.

Hey Red Pill:
I thought that your position is that the heavens have been closed and there are no more prophets? Isn’t that what you and the huckmonster and others say?
And by the way, if anyone knows where to see huckaberry walking down the stairs at FOX and letting his wife try and get down the steep, temporary steps herself, I would love the website. I did see it when it happened, in the background when he thought no one was looking, and the commentator on Fox was still talking. Why isn’t it on you tube, or is it?
Good to see some of you commenting (and you know who).
Bambi on April 9, 2008 at 5:43 PM
If you’re laying claim to being a prophet of God, declaring publically what you claim God is saying through you, then I, for one, am completely ready to accept your claim to the office of “prophet”.
And if your “prophecy” about Huckabee winning the Presidency (thank you for making so specific!) fails to come to pass, if you are in fact shown to be a false prophet and misguided blowhard, will you submit yourself to the terms laid out by a true mouthpiece of God in Deut. 18:20-22?
I’m guessing you won’t.

Just my 2¢.
Cold Steel on April 9, 2008 at 6:12 PM
Sounds like Huckabee is tired of being 3rd fiddle. He’s finally being proactive, instead of reactive. Mitt beat him to the punch on bowing out, and then again on building bridges with McCain. Huckabee better deliver to his people after rolling out this fancy clock and all. We don’t want any half-assed political rapture. Come correct Huck.
Cold Steel on April 9, 2008 at 6:14 PM
If you don’t like what RED PILL is saying – why not read over his comment to the next comment. I don’t like a lot of the things that I read in here, and if they bother me enough, I skip them.
That said, I agree that it is strange how much anger is directed at Huckabee in this thread and on this site in general. I really can’t see that he has done anything to warrant the animosity. He is more resented than Obama or Clinton – what up with that. It can’t be his politics because Huckabee is mostly in agreement with most of what we talk about. It has to be his God, right? I mean really, that is what is bothering most of you, right? Is it his faith that’s bothering you?

More like his thinly veiled ignorance and populist tendencies. Are you serious? Yes, it’s about his politics - the ones that are identity driven on the basis of religion (that he continually reminds everyone about). His wielding his brand of faith around puts people off - but it’s not the *reason*. It’s more about his tactics and ethics, or lack thereof, and the incessant axe-grinding he does about Mitt, etc. We call that a sore loser from where I’m from.
I think it all boils down to people around here at HotAir loath Mike Huckabee because Mike Huckabee is, well, all about Mike Huckabee.

Oh yeah, I usually bail on all religious threads. Mitt and Huck qualify. That’s not why I thought it was curious. What was curious was the Ed came in here, ostensibly, to get AP’s back. The only reason that is relevant to me is that I have doubts AP needs or wants that, esp he said upthread other views are irrelevant. That means that statement was by Ed for Ed. That says something about how he looks at politics and how he comments on politics - he reinforced an statement unnecessarily.

I’m not sure you really understand people with devout faith when you make a comment like this. In short, yes, we’re serious. And what you call identity politics based on religion, we might be more likely to call politics based on values, or even faith, but at the end of the day – it surely is no insult to us to think that a portion of our political viewpoint is rooted in our faith. That’s not only true of Christian, but I would think most other religions as well.

You know Huck is no dummy. Possibly he see’s the “great gulf fixed” that has formed between nationalistic conservatives and the open border globalists of the GOP. And the total void in representation for much of Middle America. We have no one to represent us! And maybe Huck realizes the need for a serious 3rd party. And there are no FDT’s, Hunter’s or Tancredo’s with the courage to step up to fill that void. They all cut-n-ran. So maybe Huck is thinking about filling it, huhm? My only hope and advice to him, if that is true, would be that he wait until after 11/4/08. Why? Ask Ross Perot. If thats your plan Huck, form up the party but wait untill the 2010 mid-terms to run candidates.
Imagine my disappointment when he does, in fact, announce only an upgrade to his website. DD

But seriously, Huckabee was playing to the base of the base. He was using his identity to drive a wedge and separate his little kingdom. Platitudes and pie-in-the-sky issues cannot compete. Also, I’m all for faith, family values, and morality, but that doesn’t give license to shield yourself from gaping holes in your resume′, logic, and platform. He was/is playing religious folks as rubes and sheep. He shook them down for their money and and pandered to their deepest desires. Well, some don’t buy his brand.

Huckabee is going to become the next Ross Perot. He won’t EVER go away.
le sigh.

Nope — you’re not reading the thread correctly. I didn’t. Let me be clear — I didn’t.

I thought that was going to be Ron Paul. That man pops up everywhere it seems.

What drives people away, Wise Golden, Red Pill, apacalypto, and you too St. O, is that evangelicals and the brand of Christianity espoused in some of these threads, assert absolute dominance over faith and values. The rest of us are pagan idolaters on a one way trip to the ultimate Global Warming. Huckabee and Co. would draw more support if they actually practiced and applied their moralism.

We’ve had this conversation more than once over a period of several months. I’ll say it again – why not just read over RED PILLS comments if they bother you so much? You end up bringing God into the fight with the counter, and that just ends up putting people like me on the defensive. I guess I could as easily ignore the counter – but for pete sake look at the response generated by the simplest of statements. And I’ll say it again, look at the response to Huck’s web site – over a simple counter. Nobody knows what it’s about, but people are insulting Christians over it – makes no sense. And for the record – over 90 insulting comments hurled at Huckabee and his supporters before RED PILL said a word.

Almost as much as his signs. The next president needs to task that joker with picking up all his junk. Tear down the signs, return the blimp, return all the neo-Nazi contributions, disband all the Ron Paul fan clubs, and generate a cease and desist on all spam voting.

Oh I couldn’t agree more! Then make sure he can NEVER run for politics again the the people in TX NEVER vote for him again!
