How you can support General Petraeus

Remember the reception that General David Petraeus received the last time he reported to Congress on the status of the Iraq mission?  He had one Senator call him a liar to his face — a Senator that wants to be President, but has found it rougher going than she predicted.  A major political organization that supports and is supported by many Democrats took out a full-page ad in the New York Times implying that Petraeus was a traitor, using a playground slur on his surname.

General Petraeus returns to Congress this week, a chastised Congress that has tried its best to avoid the Iraq debate ever since Petraeus proved them wrong in the fall and winter, but one that will undoubtedly remain hostile.  Nancy Pelosi has already tried telling Petraeus that he’d better deliver a negative report — or else.  Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wants Petraeus to have a better welcome back to the US for his report.

McConnell has created a page on his campaign website where people can show their gratitude for Petraeus’ accomplishments in Iraq.  Just fill in your name and add your personal comments.  It doesn’t take more than a minute to give the general the appreciation that Congress can’t or won’t show him for the work he’s done in turning around the mission in Iraq.

Unfortunately, it’s hard for many people to separate the Military operations from decision making in D.C.

Both are connected, understandably.

To attack the Military is to attack the decision-maker.

To praise the Military is to praise the decision-maker.

It’s the nature of things, in some cases.

If you belong to a group that opposes the decision-maker and you praise the Military, you are considered a traitor to the cause.

From the Left point of view, it is understandable.

Most probably, if the president is a Democrat, the Right will never attack the Military.

It goes to show how much special interest groups have influence on politics in America.

Most Americans don’t oppose the Military. But special interest groups, although small in number, their voice is louder and their funding is larger.

Until the American people rise up and silence the interest groups, this debate about supporting or not the Military will go on forever.

Don’t forget about the Holocaust Survivor Congressman who called him a liar to his face as well. I forgot his name already, and he passed away recently.

The war at home continues against letting the vile, corrupt and anti-USA Congress score a victory for the enemy our General faces in Iraq.

The General and the forces he leads represents the best America offers. Those he must subject himself to are allegorical figures for the end of liberty, justice and the American way and represent the black water of our nation.

Blinky Pelosi doesn’t want to be accused of letting America’s enemies down.

Of course not. That is one of those things that is simply not done. Some on the radical left see the members of our military as just extensions of the Republican Party. That kind of attitude disgusts me.
One of my liberal professors started talking about Michael Moore in class the other day and how we supposedly “only send the poor” and how that fat slob had a point in saying that no politician would “send” his child to Iraq. I defended our army as a all-volunteer force and said noone was sent against their will, and I was sure that there were politicians with children in the military. This was before I had heard about McCain’s son, or I certainly would have mentioned it.
I just can’t stand contempt for our armed forces, and based on the reaction to the Berkeley debacle and MoveOn’s disgraceful actions last year, most Americans, right or left, share that feeling.

Thanks General.

I will never forget just how Hillary Clinton treated General Petraeus which such blatant disrespect.

She represents part of the crew that will control 60 votes in the US Senate next year.

Wow!

GEN Petraeus, Thank you for daring to plan and execute a strategy to win America’s War in Iraq. I support you wholeheartedly in these efforts, and I admire you for giving our troops a mission they can achieve, a cause which is just, and the Leadership necessary to get the job done with their help. Please keep them hopeful and motivated in their mission and tell them how much our country supports and loves them and everything they stand for. God Bless them all, and give you the determination and courage to stand up to all enemies of Victory, both foreign and domestic. Thank you.

Subsunk out.

Signed the card.

The Democrat Senate is rife full of traitor scum.

Not one Democrat Senator is worthy to remain an American citizen, much less a Senator.

NoDonkey on April 8, 2008 at 8:32 AM

One of these days, when the godless hoards descend upon these narcissistic politicos and end the argument forever, they may pause to regret the way they treated our brave soldiers and wonder where they are.

You Know, I did it, but it bugs me how the site wants our email address. It’s a classic campaign fundraising ploy to put a petition or poll up on your website that people have to provide you with their personal info with. It’s a smart way to build up a mailing (donor) list, though, and one I’m sure I’d recommend doing exactly that if I was on a campaign staff. But it’s so transparent as well. Am I too cynical? If I am, then answer this: Why tie this to an email address, why not just put name and city? Why do they need to get in touch with me about this?

Who cares? The message gets to the general and contributing remains your personal choice. Unfortunately, politicians cannot exist without money.

Too bad the General can’t speak freely.

He actually has to act as if Democrat Senators deserve respect.

Respect the office, but not the complete piece of garbage that idiot voters put into it.

There is not a Democrat Senator who is worth the stale urine it would take to put them out, if they were in flames. Worthless scum every last one of them.

Quite so, but who would want to put them out?

Democrats have allowed the hearing room to be stacked with protestors.

roninacreage on April 8, 2008 at 9:35 AM

Let the liberal sniping begin. Their mantra of retreat will not stop. They have too much riding on our defeat. Their political survival is at stake.

“suspend their disbelief”?

J_Gocht on April 8, 2008 at 9:38 AM

“Quite so, but who would want to put them out?”

Not me, I’m bringing marshmellows and some s’mores.

Ready to sing that ol’ campfire song, “Democrats roasting on an open fire/Jack frost nipping at your nose”.

Wow! gsmiley on April 8, 2008 at 8:01 AM”

WOW! You must have been listening to the “ rotund one” from West Palm Beach, yesterday?
He was so darn, down; said it wouldn’t matter if Saint Mc won the election. There would be a combination of moderate Republicans and newly elected Democrats to block any judicial nomination the “Saint” made that didn’t fit their template.

I actually thought he was going to cry or perhaps use a scatological term on the air?
Gosh, it was some fun; glad you heard it too, gsmiley!

Two questions.

1) Why is this hosted on the McConnell for Senate website and not his US Senate website?

2) Since the form is hosted on McConnell’s campaign website, am I really just signing up for his campaign re-election mailing list?

“Lieberman and Miller are the exceptions”

Miller is retired and Liebermann is an independent, no longer a Democrat.

NoDonkey on April 8, 2008 at 11:29 AM

I’ve watched quiet a lot of these hearings so far and the condescending attitude from many of these senators is embarrassing. To sit there and speak to this general, in full dress uniform, the way a few of them have is just plain disrespectful. If I had spoken to my father in such a manner he would have worn me out.
Making matters worse is some of them are republicans. Susan Collins and John Warner are coming off as ignorant to put it politely.

Big Orange on April 8, 2008 at 11:53 AM

“Float Like a Butterfly, Sting Like a Bee: Muhammad Ali”

Whole lotta floatin’ like a butterfly and not a lotta stingin’ like a bee!

The ambasadore and the general have to embrace both parts of Ali’s admonition; or we’ll be floatin’ and dieing for the 100 years as St. Mc envisions!

Five years of the same excuses is more than enough!

You Senator Collins are CORRECT!

J_Gocht on April 8, 2008 at 12:05 PM

By the above I mean…the good General and Ambassador have to convince the Iraqi’s too…

“Float Like a Butterfly[s], Sting Like a Bee[s]: Muhammad Ali”

We all know the US troops can kick butt and take names!

It’s probably hosted on his campaign web site so no Dhimmicrat can complain about McConnell using taxpayer money to support a partisan cause, which is how they see supporting Patraeus!

Al in St. Lou on April 8, 2008 at 3:27 PM

It is a sorry testimony to Pelosi’s constituency that they let her get away with threatening a professional soldier if his testimony is not to her liking. If she’s going to claim perjury, it must be on the basis of evidence.

If one of my GOP congresscritters (which I do not have, sadly) spoke like this for the cameras, and if hse survived to run again, I would take Dramamine and vote Dem–unless the Dem candidate had a history even worse.

NoDonkey on April 8, 2008 at 9:54 AM

Ha … but I still remember my Uncle Bob telling me, when we kids wanted to have a weenie roast over the ash can, if you roast ‘em over trash they’ll just taste like trash.

Of course roasted Dems would taste like trash anyway. Guess that’s bad news for Ted Turner.

Geez, I’m usually such a lady. What happened??

Rosmerta on April 8, 2008 at 4:45 PM

“I’ve watched quiet a lot of these hearings so far and the condescending attitude from many of these senators is embarrassing.”

I’m wondering what in the hell these jackass Democrats have to be condescending about.

The majority of them have accomplished nothing at all in their lives, beyond purchasing a Congressional seat with daddy’s or hubby’s money.

And the other failed lawyers, drug addicts and race baiters have nothing at all to be condescending about.

The Democrat Senate is nothing at all but worthless scum. You’ll find a better quality of people face down in the gutter.

NoDonkey on April 8, 2008 at 4:47 PM

“Of course roasted Dems would taste like trash anyway.”

I’ve been told rats and snakes taste “just like chicken”, so I’m sure so would roast Democrat.

Just add a little BBQ sauce and they’re delicious.

Although that Nadler dude is too fatty, not good for you.

DING DING DING. We have a winner. Joe Lieberman has positions I disagree with, but he is a man of honor and has earned my respect. His support of the troops and war effort is inspiring. Zell Miller is a great man, too bad he didn’t run for re-election. We need more people like him and Senator Lieberman on the Democratic side.
