Video: Voice of God inspires couple to chase their dreams

Not an official campaign ad, I don’t think, but very much in keeping with the spirit of the movement. What makes this creepy instead of merely hokey and goofy? The beatific look on our heroine’s face, of course. She’s not just remembering a speech here, she’s in the grip of rapture, a communique straight from Providence courtesy of His emissary here on earth. Easily the most comically hagiographic Obama video since this abortion, and likely to stay that way until the apostle will.i.am heads back into the studio.

What the hell is that…

Is she supposed to be hispanic? She said “papi” like my aunt Beatrice from long island.

Dash on April 7, 2008 at 7:21 PM

So basically, a billboard for Obama’s campaign inspires a woman to tell her friend/husband to take his citizenship test on the day it was scheduled, using a phrase people have used long before Obama was even thought of.

Inspiring.

I’ll say what I’ve said before….if Obama is elected, Democrats and independents (the dumbest set of folks on Earth) will get what they deserve. Maybe then, in 2012, they’ll stay home to watch American Idol while the real adults choose real leaders with real positions, not just slogans.

No mention of change, what’s up with that?

I can see how I might have some if I were an atheist who didn’t support Obama.

Or did you have no problems with that statement, but just wanted to go off topic and bash theists? I find that hard to believe, but maybe it’s true.

The majority of Americans are fed up with illegal aliens and their arrogant demands, and this less-than-subtle pandering to the “Si se puede” crowd is going to piss off a lot of voters.

ronsfi on April 7, 2008 at 11:35 PM

The problem is that this is a brilliant ad. Unfortunately it has no basis in truth, but that isn’t important in marketing. It panders to the hispanic vote which will vote D anyway (so it’s really more of a primary campaign ad). But the states left in primaries that matter don’t appreciate the illegal immigration issue. But it doesn’t really talk about immigration in any way but legal immigration. . . so people can’t really have a problem with that.

EXCEPT to become a citizen you must be able to speak English so ’si se puede’ (Yes we can) is inappropriate for someone trying to get citizenship. Actually she should have said ’si te puede’. . . but what is a stupid grammatical error in an otherwise brilliant ad campaign. Surely the Spanish speaking population this speaks to won’t actually catch the grammatical mistake.

I can still have hope too. Hope that this election takes some form of substance instead of hype. Hope that people realize that a vote for Obama is the worst choice of the three remaining choices they could make.

TBinSTL on April 8, 2008 at 2:48 AM

Substitute Reagan for Obama, and I dare say, a good many of you ‘throwing up’ would have a much better disposition to this ad.

I recognize that Obama has very unfortunate statist tendancies, but, the notion that his ‘hope’ sales pitch is a bad thing is patently absurd. Hope, life, liberty and puruit of happiness is the essence of being American. The single most differentiating factor in America relative to the rest of the world is hope. Obama’s ‘Yes we can’ is exactly the kind of attitude that has built this country.

Further still, given the limited powers of the executive branch (unfortunately expanded by Dubya), I’m not so certain that an Obama Presidency coupled with a strong Republican congress is such a bad thing. As we’ve come to learn, the GOP has no qualms about abandoning its principles when it holds all of the levers of power. Is today’s Republican party what you want the party to be? The only issue the GOP is right on is the war, and even there, the leadership has been doing its best to lose a war against a rag tag army of insurgents.

inviolet on April 8, 2008 at 6:21 AM

RRRNH! (Buzzer sfx) Wrong! Because by the time the Gipper would have been close to being elected, he had a longer resume of carefully thought out public statements and positions on conservative issues and a track record as a former executive (California governor).

Do you think Reagan’s success came as a result of his stint as California governor? The solution to hack politicians is more hack politicians? I’m not saying Obama is everything he’s purported to be. All I’m saying is that a message of renewal and hope in America is a far better one than one of despair. What is this, suddenly the party of Jimmy Carter?

If you could take Obama’s message and tie it into a good implementation plan, you’d have the perfect candidate. My only point is that his message is right for America. It’s too bad that he’s got the wrong ideas about what needs to be done to fix the country’s current problems.

Why is it that everyone is so partisan that not even an inch can be given to the ‘other’ side when they’re doing something right? Obama is right about one thing–America isn’t made up of Democrats and Republicans. Its made up of Americans. And right now, neither party is doing a good enough job of reflecting what it means to be American.

dominigan on April 8, 2008 at 8:54 AM

Speaking of God,

there are a couple stories out with more interest than BHO could ever exude of his own accord:

1) The boson “God-particle” that Peter Higgs proposed in 1964 to explain in physics how matter has mass and hence exists in a form allowing it to create entities. Now that he is aged 78, he is convinced that any day now, he’ll be proven right.

2)The removal, first of all the 400 children and later their mothers, of American citizens from their home, a successful agrarian dairy and farm commune in Texas–they being the unfortunate present generation of the Brigham Young polygamous Mormon colony (the same circumstances from which Mitt Romney evolved). YES, obviously polygamy is an abomination. However, the government destroying the immediate and extending emotional well being of over 400 children whose mothers love them with all their hearts in order to enforce conformity with our traditional-modernity will have serious repercussions on all 400 of those children being grilled in interviews until they say what the authorities want to hear. There’s an abomination to counter the former. Meanwhile, back at their ranch, the government has removed all of the sons as well in order to prevent them from chores involved in the dairy farm, in order to ruin their source of sustenance–again, an abomination of the government to purposely ruin a family’s business enterprise in order to enforce conformity–break up their society and make them subservient to the outside world. YES, it’s an ugly can of worms. And it’s happening now. And the blogs won’t venture any effort to be the Samaritan, proud of their priestly status in the sphere. (Note well the AP dirty language referencing Eldorado geography or the SW in general. That coupled with the obvious “pioneer” dresses, why not stick with “19th-Century” and at least be PC polite to these females?) Whatever crime the government commits in order to enforce the law will come down later on our heads in an awful lawsuit, if not further enabling of wide-open search warrants based upon fabricated (at least enhanced to facilitate what the state wants) original complaints. It is a sordid mess on all sides. And the children suffer. Everyone there suffers. The dairy cattle suffer physically if not milked on schedule. I can imagine a lawman telling the dairyman milking his cows to clear out, and not allowing the dairyman back to his post for days, and finally the dairyman arguing loudly and getting arrested. That arrest appeases the outside world salivating for prosecutorial proof. That child protective services Meisner was at Waco allowing the Branch Davidians to go up in flames by the feds bombardment is no relief to hear. So she first scooped away all the babies this time, their safety her excuse to interrogate them ad nauseum.

“Where’s the beef?” The man’s in Arizona where he has been. Where’s the girl in question? Does she exist? Is she just a legal metaphor based upon brief passing by on the streets of Eldorado coming from the market as the locals ogle the queers from o’r yonder.

The State of Texas has had long enough to gather “evidence” and should let these women and children go home if they want.
