Video: Murtha can’t get enough of the sweet, sweet pork

Via InstaGlenn. Not one blessed thing in the clip will surprise you if you’re a right-wing blog reader of any duration. His staggering gluttony in this area has made him a target of even left-wing outfits like CREW; the Journal went so far last year as to describe his hometown as having been wholly “rebuilt” by the endless stream of federal money flowing into it. The point to take away about Murtha isn’t simply his piggishness but the arrogance he displays about it. That’s what got him in trouble in the Abscam tape, which CBS gloriously excerpts in the clip. Most lawmakers subject to a House censure vote for threatening a colleague on earmarks would show at least perfunctory contrition. He sits there during the roll on the House floor and laughs.

Come for the awesome money/conveyor graphic, stay for Murtha’s aides shutting his office door in CBS’s face. Exit question instruction: Name that party.

What an @sshole!

Torch on April 7, 2008 at 4:31 PM

Okay, besides the fact that they don’t harp on him being a Democrat… like you know they would have done if there were an “R” behind his name, I’m shocked… SHOCKED I tell you that CBS actually ran this piece.
Murtha is an absolutely despicable bully.

Sugar Land on April 7, 2008 at 4:34 PM

The lunatics are running the asylum - a roughly 16 trillion dollar asylum, with 300 million owners.

Flyover Country on April 7, 2008 at 4:35 PM

Don’t you mean the most ethical congress evah, AP?

NTWR on April 7, 2008 at 4:37 PM

Wow…. that was CBS????

PIGS DO FLY!!!!

Romeo13 on April 7, 2008 at 4:37 PM

How shocking to see CBS, of all news organizations, exposing a member of whatever party Murtha belongs to!

sondiehl on April 7, 2008 at 4:38 PM

If my comment is blocked from this thread I understand. My question is to paraphrase Torch:

What @ssholes elect him every time? The ones who live in his district and are paid by his boondoggles. Mencken continues to be right!

MNDavenotPC on April 7, 2008 at 4:39 PM

He is simply a nasty pig.

JonRoss on April 7, 2008 at 4:41 PM

Hey this is just an opening shot. CBS is trying to show they are neutral so that when they have story after story about Republican porkers they can say “hey were equal opportunity.” Just to emphasize my point here is a quote from the CAGW summary:

The top three porkers were members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, beginning with Ranking Member Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) with $892 million; Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) with $469 million; and Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) with $465 million.

Our boys are just as bad if not worse. These numbers are astonishing if not completely depressing.

knat on April 7, 2008 at 4:42 PM

Wow tax the State to death AND get a bunch of Pork.

As I do not understand the full dynamics of Pork, maybe there should be a few good people to say yay or nay on where the pork goes when a Congressman or Senator asks for something in their State and why. If it is linked to these people we elect, they shouldn’t get it.

Alaska as a whole would be screwed since Ted Stevens and Don Young is has the rule of 1 in this State, but it will make people stop complaining about Alaska at least. And since it is such a small community, at least we all know where the money is going.

upinak on April 7, 2008 at 4:44 PM

Murtha most Powerful, because of pork?

How about most corrupt..

knat on April 7, 2008 at 4:42 PM

That is why Congress is full of high mileage seniors who get away with this. Incumbents buy re-election. It’ll be that way till we get term limits which won’t happen because the porkers would have to pass it. Murtha represents the arrogance of the re-elected seniors. He’s just a little more open.

knat on April 7, 2008 at 4:42 PM

This is true, I did a post on the CAGW report a week or two ago. Sadly, pork is a bipartisan problem, and the GOP has guys that are as bad as Murtha.

doubleplusundead on April 7, 2008 at 4:51 PM

When I waas developing weapon systems for the Military, (Picatinny Arsenal) I made the mistake of recommending the cancellation of a wasteful contract that one of Murtha’s buddies won. (AOT - Johnstown PA) The PM for CAS and the technology director for ARDEC agreed to cancel the contract and my buddy Murtha stepped in and threatened to cancel a 2 million dollar congressional plus-up. They caved in and the program went on. This was before I heard a thing about Murtha.

This is off point but….. you asked on another thread if I was from Philly before living in MN…… Yep

All incumbents must go…ALL!

Wade on April 7, 2008 at 4:56 PM

I’ve simply run out of adjectives for this scum. Apparently the Communist Broadcast System has too. As in DEMONCRAT!!! Is there really any wonder why CBS is having to lay-off people nation wide? They can’t even muster up the cahoneys to do a gotcha on one of their own.

oakpack on April 7, 2008 at 5:06 PM

whatever street cred he has by being a marine, he’s lost by being a congressman…

don’t want him to go away mad.. just go away..

he’s like ‘Cuffy Meigs’ from ‘Atlas Shrugged’.. come into a system and mooch and loot it for all it’s worth and make off like a bandit..

When Jon Kyl ran for re-election to the U.S. Senate in 2006, his Democratic opponent, Pederson, criticized him for failing to “bring home the pork” to Arizona. Kyl won re-election anyway. This year, Kyl co-sponsored the DeMint-McCain proposal for a one-year moratorium on pork (it failed).

When voters in other states stop electing and re-electing corrupt thieves like Murtha, we’ll all be better off. Arizona voters prove it can be done.

AZCoyote on April 7, 2008 at 5:16 PM

What a dispicable prick! I’ve concluded that the election district of Murtha have not yet been introduced any form of communication medium…no TV, no radio, etc. I realize that the MSM gives this corrput, and yes, unpatriotic bastard all the cover he needs, but don’t they have the internet in that part of PA? Are people knowlingly re-electing this scumbag to office time-after-time? Calling our troops murderers isn’t enough for those people? This guy makes William Jefferson look honest. What a disgrace!

orlandocajun on April 7, 2008 at 5:32 PM

AZCoyote on April 7, 2008 at 5:16 PM

But, you see, as long as he keeps flooding his constituents homes with billions of yours and my tax dollars, they’ll certainly keep on re-electing him, probably until the day he dies. He buys their votes. He’s buying off his constituents who obviously are the sole beneficiarys of his @ss-hattery… other than himself that is.

That crotchity dispeptic old fart keeps on getting away with it too. Without so little as even a single congressional censure, even after abscam. He should have been keel-hauled years ago, but he keeps on truckin’ along despite Pelosi’s pie eyed plastic faced proclomations about ethical this and no more wasteful spending that. It’s thoroughly disgusting. But what can anyone outside the voters in his district do? Not a damn thing. Except for congress, and that pig will never fly unless Murtha gets his fat 38DD man boobs caught in a ringer and the DoJ slams the cell door on him like they did Randy ‘Duke’ Cunningham.

One thing though, Katie Couric just ratcheted up one notch just for airing that story. The story seemed far too short, but it’s a start. I think that puts her at about a -9 now.

SilverStar830 on April 7, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Reason number 79 to have term limits. His constituents will NEVER vote him out but his earmarks hurt the rest of the taxpayers in this country.

RMCS_USN on April 7, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Well, if ever there was a time for Maverick… here it is. The guy’s the anti-porker. He needs to run not just against Barrack Messiah, but against tools like Murtha.
Oh, and if we ever do get some kind of grip on these vile pork deals, we’ll actually get a little of the benefit that term limits would give us. Term limits is the golden ring. But these jerks will never let it happen. But if we can cut off their ability to pay off their districts… they become much more disposable in an election.

Sugar Land on April 7, 2008 at 5:45 PM

In other news…Hell has froze over.

PappaMac on April 7, 2008 at 5:52 PM

SilverStar830 on April 7, 2008 at 5:36 PM

Yes, I understand the incentive of Murtha’s voters to keep him in office. My point was that Arizona voters know that our Senators are not getting us pork, yet Kyl and McCain keep getting re-elected anyway, even though there are candidates (like Jim Pederson-D) who promise that they’ll get us “our share” if we just vote for them.

There are voters who care about ethical government; they just don’t seem to live in Murtha’s district.

AZCoyote on April 7, 2008 at 5:57 PM

George Orwell was right, some pigs are more equal than others.

SeniorD on April 7, 2008 at 5:58 PM

Term limits and only social security retirement.

Johan Klaus on April 7, 2008 at 7:04 PM

And this SOB has the audacity to talk about the war in Iraq costing too much? Murtha costs too much. IMPEACH MURTHA! IMPEACH MURTHA!!

Amy Proctor on April 7, 2008 at 8:32 PM

“Oink” went the weasel…..

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on April 7, 2008 at 9:59 PM

Murtha’s district is heavily influenced by union-think. (The latter term is obviously an oxymoron.)

Like Byrd, Murtha brings home the bacon. Both have all parts of the piggy trough staked out.

Both will die in office with their boots on, and there will be lavish tributes paid to them by Congress.

onlineanalyst on April 7, 2008 at 11:19 PM

Term limits work great for me. Put’s a real damper on “pat my back and I’ll pat your’s” kind of stuff.

Hog Wild on April 7, 2008 at 11:39 PM

Wow! Can’t believe this came from CBS. Kudos
