Open thread: Memphis vs. Kansas

Nothing much happening at the moment so sound off if you’re watching the game. Tonight’s magic word: “Dribble-drive.”

Something to meditate on during timeouts, courtesy of Patrick Ewing’s kid:

Shhhh.

I’m trying to watch the game!

locomotivebreath1901 on April 7, 2008 at 9:13 PM

But Sonny Weems from Arkansas won it all! Go Hogs!

Brad on April 7, 2008 at 9:15 PM

Also I fear for Memphians. Win or lose that city is likely to burn tonight.

Brad on April 7, 2008 at 9:16 PM

That’s an incredible dunk.

Hope KU gets one tonight since NC got one after Williams left. That and I’m not a Calipari fan.

Spirit of 1776 on April 7, 2008 at 9:18 PM

UNC, pardon my typo.

Spirit of 1776 on April 7, 2008 at 9:18 PM

Go Memphis!

sondiehl on April 7, 2008 at 9:19 PM

Though I confess I would amused to see Memphis win and then say “No one gave a chance”, “No one gave us any respect”, “We had a lot to prove”, etc

Spirit of 1776 on April 7, 2008 at 9:23 PM

Rock Chock Jayhawk!!

knat on April 7, 2008 at 9:24 PM

Man, I couldn’t do that dunking the garbage can.

Sheesh.

SteveMG on April 7, 2008 at 9:26 PM

Oh yeah: Memphis by eight.

SteveMG on April 7, 2008 at 9:28 PM

Okay,open thread!

Now this one has me thinking:

If someone was standing on top of the World,on the North
Pole, not magnetic north, you would be looking straight up!

Now;

If someone was standing on the South Pole, not magnetic
south.And looked straight up!

Now; Wouldn’t the person standing on the South Pole be
upside down no matter how you look at it!

Any thoughts!

canopfor on April 7, 2008 at 9:34 PM

relative to the person at the north pole.

the person at the south pole thinks the guy at the north pole is upside down.

up is just a relative term.

lorien1973 on April 7, 2008 at 9:40 PM

the last 2 minutes of any basketball game is all you need to watch.

roninacreage on April 7, 2008 at 9:44 PM

the last 2 minutes of any basketball game is all you need to watch.

Kinda like sex. Not watching though.

Well, watching too.

Well, at least for me.

SteveMG on April 7, 2008 at 9:54 PM

lorien1973 on April 7,2008 at 9:40PM.

lorien1973: I was thinking that may be,but you and I
are sitting up in North America, and if we
park the space shuttle,a few thousand miles
away from us.

And from that perspective. Australia is down
under,me thinks there still upside down.

If the earth spun north to south well my
theory would be out to lunch or out in space
so to speak! Anyhow, you might be right!

Nail biter. Go KU!!

wytammic on April 7, 2008 at 10:03 PM

That was some behind the back jump up and dunk!
For some reason I keep thinking,he shoots,dunks
scores!It’s the hockey thing!

canopfor on April 7, 2008 at 10:03 PM

I want a couple shots of whatever canopfor is imbibing…

Lee on April 7, 2008 at 10:20 PM

As a Nebraskan, I’m usually very anti-KU. But hey, Big XII… Go Jayhawks!

loganthompson on April 7, 2008 at 10:24 PM

We are avid Husker football fans, but love Jayhawk basketball.

wytammic on April 7, 2008 at 10:26 PM

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk! Go KU. Up by 5 at the half.

Lee: Since its open thread, buckle up one more to go!

Okay, here’s what I think the US military should be
running. We get say a hot spot that needs ordanance or
less lethal management.

You have something like a map of said target, say like Irag.
You’ve got satelites parked above,in a call centre like
atmosphere, computer monitors are tracking targets in said
real time.

The whole area is grided, each grided area has its own
command and control, nothing and I mean nothing gets by
the eyes in the sky!

Any Questions!

canopfor on April 7, 2008 at 10:38 PM

that crazy shot Rose just put up with the shot clock running out was a two. Why did they give Memphis 3?

bocalocaj on April 7, 2008 at 11:11 PM

Oh, hell.

sondiehl on April 7, 2008 at 11:51 PM

Not a basketball fan, but……….. good game!

Kansas

KCB on April 8, 2008 at 12:12 AM

THe BEST GAME OF THE YEAR. What a comeback. Dang this is the year of Huge Comebacks. From NY in the Superbowl to now Kansas WOW. Both teams had NO CHANCE TO WIN AND YET STILL WON!!! WOW.

BroncosRock on April 8, 2008 at 12:49 AM

Crap. I say again, Crap.

Big Daddy Cool on April 8, 2008 at 12:56 AM

Man that 3 pointer to tie the game and send it into overtime was awwwwwwwwwwwwesome. Woo Hoo KU NUMBER1.

ic1redeye on April 8, 2008 at 1:32 AM

Of all things. I turned it off with 11 seconds remaining “knowing” Memphis had it wrapped up. That is why I hate bro-ball.

wepeople on April 8, 2008 at 8:26 AM

Grew up in Memphis though I didn’t attend MSU (I’ll never be able to call it the U of M). This was the best Tiger team I ever saw play, but last night they had done to them what they did to the last 2-3 teams in the tourney.

All respect to Kansas, they didn’t give up and played a great game.

Hopefully Calipari won’t have a million people turn on him in Memphis now; he deserves a world of credit for building a real, reputable program and actually developing the talent of those kids during their time on the squad.

I hope Rose sticks around, too.

No one does heartbreak quite like Memphis.

DrSteve on April 8, 2008 at 9:32 AM

Who cares

roux on April 8, 2008 at 9:39 AM

Damn that was a sweet dunk.

A Axe on April 8, 2008 at 11:12 AM

Ouch, that three pt. shot will buy Chalmers drinks for life in the Mid-west.
