Video: Pfleger screeches in defense of Wright and Farrakhan

A palate cleanser dirtier on a slow news day from a guy on the outer periphery of the Wright scandal but interesting enough in his own right to warrant a clip (and a photo on Obama’s endorsement page, natch). No less an Obama acolyte than Sullivan pronounced the Messiah’s cautious answer on Farrakhan to Tim Russert in February his “worst moment in any debate since this campaign started.” That turned out to be a sneak preview of how he’d handle the Wright scandal a few weeks later, criticizing certain statements while being careful not to go after the man himself. Contrast that approach with Michael “Hide like a rat” Pfleger’s here, lumping the two of them in with Medgar Evers, of all people, as glorious martyrs to the cause of civil rights. No wonder Wright chose his church, duly honored by Farrakhan with an appearance last year, to reemerge.

Pfleger’s a nutjob we’re all too familiar with in Chicago.

How dare we demonize him? A great Biblical scholar?
Did I miss some part of the Bible where Whitey is to blame for everything, the U.S. created AIDS, we deserved 9/11, etc.?

The reference to not letting them tear down Malcolm is particularly disgusting, given that Malcolm X was murdered by the Elijah-Muhammad/Farrakhan faction of the NoI.
Someone should seriously ask Obama what he thinks of Malcolm’s murder.

Meh, he’s just another useful tool for the “America is the root of all evil” crowd and the always racist and bigotted Farrakhan.
The funny thing about this is Wright and Farrakhan wouldn’t think twice about throwing Pfleger under the bus or removing his head once he’s no longer useful to their hateful and racist ideologies!
Liberty or Death on April 3, 2008 at 4:09 PM
This man is a Catholic priest? How can he defend Wright?

This is Pfleger’s one big chance for the spotlight, endorsements, autograph sales, DVDs, speaking engagements, etc. He won’t be denied,..and why should he be? Never throw away an opportunity to help your fellow man if you can do it with love in your heart.

btw, next time anyone tries to make the claim that the Country was United after 9/11 and George Bush with Iraq divided us, blah, Blah…
we should simply refer them to Jeremiah Wrights Sermon the Sunday After 9/11 as well as leftwing academia.
also, when is someone going to ask Obama where he was the Sunday after 9/11?

The Catholic Church owns Pfleger in the same way Obama owns Wright. Around the neck, like a millstone.

Theworldisnotenough on April 3, 2008 at 4:34 PM
Pfleger is a media whore of the likes of Jackson and Sharpton. If there is a camera he’s in front of it.
He’s been in that parish for well over a decade which is against the Church’s rules (they shift Pastors and Priests so they don’t develop fiefdoms). Cardinal Bernandin and Cardinal George won’t deal with him because they’re afraid of him. The guys isn’t any more Catholic that Wright or Farrakhan are.
I’m so sick of hearing him on the local news.

Notice the section for “Activism”. This guy got all bent out of shape over issues as diverse as the storming of Arafat’s compound to cigarettes to fruit drinks that look like liquor bottles but he could never bring himself to do anything post 9/11 to specifically protest the murder of 3000 of his fellow citizens.
He also has a couple of adopted kids.

Let’s see. i won’t clog posts about the KKK or the Nazis claiming to be God’s chosen. I won’t clog posts about people claiming that Nazis were doing God’s work in massacring the Jews. Why should I? Why should I spend my life refuting something that has as little to do with Christianity as that? Why should I waste my time defending my faith to you?
Do you spend your atheistic life defending atheism from the accusations about Stalin or Lenin? Or the Chinese government? All their massacres, do you disabuse?
Newsflash, junior: These people aren’t Christians and I will not spin my wheels defending my faith if you’re too stupid to figure that out on your own.

I’m a biblical scholar, with a ThM from a well-known, well-respected evangelical seminary.
Black liberation theology is heretical, in the true sense of that word. To hold to black liberation theology is to hold a view of salvation that denies the actual biblical one; therefore, holding to it prevents one from salvation as defined by Scripture.

This little white boy doesn’t have the voice to carry off his weenie attempt to imitate a black preacher. We here in Chicago have watched this little wanna be for years. All he wants for Christmas is a deeper voice and black skin.
UnEasyRider on April 3, 2008 at 5:15 PM
Prsch, don’t people just have to believe in Christ as the saviour to be saved according to most Protestant/Evangelical/Orthodox Christian churches?
So how can black liberation theology do what you say it does?

Seems odd for you to get offended considering your own comments at this site. Obviously Christians break their own moral guidelines by responding to you with insults and negativity, but Christians constantly get criticized for assuming atheists have no morals. Surely you have some kind of moral guidelines of your own that tell you to be kind as well.

The fact remains that atheists via communism, socialism and facism have killed more people than even the muslims have.
SaintOlaf on April 3, 2008 at 5:53 PM
I don’t think that’s entirely fair. This is from a 2003 article at Catholic Citizens dot org which talks about a controversial visit from Rev. Al:
Last year, Rev. Pfleger was given a short term extension of his term at St. Sabina’s after he threatened to leave the priesthood if he was transferred from St. Sabina’s. Rotation of Catholic pastors to new parishes is standard practice in most Catholic dioceses across the country. On average, pastors serve 5 to 10 years in one parish before moving on to their next assignment. Rev. Pfleger has been at St. Sabina’s for 22 years, since 1981.
What Cardinal George will do next as a result of Sharpton’s appearance is unclear. He has already suggested to the media that Rev. Pfleger consider a career change. Many observers believe Pfleger is trying to provoke a showdown with the Cardinal, giving him no choice but to relieve him. Pfleger has already indicated that he would seriously consider leaving the priesthood if he were transferred from St. Sabina’s. After publicity generated by Pfleger’s latest stunt this weekend, the Cardinal may now be ready to take him up on his offer.
5 years later, he’s still at St. Sabinas. Gosh, I wonder why.

ronsfi on April 3, 2008 at 7:08 PM
No that is not right. You are missing a vital piece.
To be saved you not only have to believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior but you have to repent and turn from your sin!
You can not be saved and continue in sin!
“God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all”
God is perfect and holy and requires us to be holy and righteous.
The reason why this is so important is because in order to be filled with the Holy Spirit one must be holy and righteous.
You can’t claim to be filled with the Holy Spirit and in the same breath commit sin!
There are many, many fake “Christians” who live in sin and are not saved.
When you are saved you will know it, as will the world.
God will give you a NEW HEART, a heart that wants to be obedient to God.
Sin will become “exceedingly sinful” in your eyes and your walk with Christ will take on a whole new meaning.
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you!”
“Put on the whole armor of God.”
Repent and turn from your sin. Place ALL of your trust in Jesus Christ, the Saviour who died for our sins!
SaintOlaf on April 3, 2008 at 7:10 PM

Another white-guilt, liberal demagogue. Nothing like a self-hating white guy. If he had a lick of sense, he’d realize that people like Farrakhan and Wright don’t like him; they like his subservience and compliance with their racist agendas, and his willingness to kowtow to their twisted beliefs.

eanax on April 3, 2008 at 8:31 PM
Actually, you’re making it more complicated, than it has to be. Jesus says that the only way to the Father, and salvation, is through Him. Not through your own works. The false doctrine taught by these racists espouses that their way is paved by their own works, which are nothing but the sin of pride, as opposed to sheer faith in Jesus Christ:
Hebrews Chapter 11, verse 6: “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
These people preach and teach salvation through their own prideful works, and not exclusive sanctification of Jesus Christ.
Ephesians, Chapter 2, verses 8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
This best describes these peoples’ teachings:
1st Timothy, Ch 4, verse 1: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;“
Virus-X on April 3, 2008 at 8:41 PM
Virus X,
I wasn’t saying anything of the sort please re-read.
It is impossible for the true Christian to be self righteous, as the true Christian knows that his righteousness comes from Christ and is supernatural, not natural.
Now man can ever by his own efforts keep God’s commandments.
The only way this can happen is thru a supernatural process, when the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside of you.
The point is, when you are truly saved Christ will give you a NEW HEART that seeks to be obedient to God!
The fact is if you continue in sin you are not truly saved!
One of the doctrines of devils you’re talking about is the one that leads Christians to believe that turning from sin is not a necessary part of salvation.
All sin is AGAINST God.
Habitual sin is a certain path to destruction and is prevelant in our society. It has no place in the life of a Christian.
SaintOlaf on April 3, 2008 at 9:13 PM
