Gaunilon – ballistic tracks end up VERY high when you start to do any appreciable distance. You don’t want a flat track as you then have too much lateral speed, making it very hard to even get close to what you are aiming at. With a high angle of attack you get an apex of 1/2 or more of the lateral distance covered (45 degree angle gives you max distance, and this would be close to the minimum angle for rockets). Given that Scuds hit out past 300 km, yes they will be MUCH higher than any clouds.

The words that really caught my ear were “currently undergoing integration”, as in “We’ve got it working, now we’re going to load this bad boy up and put it into day-to-day use”.

Can putting this kind of firepower on a Raptor really be all that far behind?

Science fiction and science fact seem to be harder to separate all the time. If one guy writes, and a second guy says “Hey…Cool!”, you can bet that in this country a third is going to say “I can build that”.

And the Left thought Reagan was just an old ‘fuddy duddy’. The sooner the left wakes up to face the worlds reality, vice their self centered idea that the world does not matter, only that you follow their rules.

We should build a thousand of these backed up by land based lasers as well. War is never what you expect. When ever a nuke attack is talked about it always seems to envision 1, 2, or maybe even 15 or so nukes falling from the sky. We should prepare for hundreds of missiles raining day and night non stop. I have never believed this “first strike, second strike” thing.
If we are attacked ever, by Russia or China,, they will not allow us to have the chance to strike back.

They forgot the steps where a series of lawyers are consulted to determine legality of the attack e.g. is it an imminent threat against the US interests, the EPA is consulted for environmental impact of destroying the missile in the atmosphere over primitive countries and finally the opposition political party must be notified to prepare counter statements decrying the attack as a political opportunity and distraction from the real issues facing the country, such as the overabundance of housing and not enough illegal immigrants to be given 100% financing to own their own home.

In answer to the guy asking about putting it on tanks, it needs to pump out Megawatts of power for long enough to blow up a missile. That’s a lot of energy, probably requires a truck-sized power source filled with all kinds of nasty chemicals. Not something you can (or want to) drag around on a tank.

My concern is that it probably has trouble in cloud cover. Do SCUD missile trajectories go above the clouds?
