Today, on the Ed Morrissey Show (3 pm ET), Ezra Klein should be joining us to discuss his LA Times column on prison rape. We’ll also talk about other stories of the day, including the horror of beer entering the White House, NATO’s adoption of missile defense, deconstructing the Senate bailout bill, and more!

Ed, I have the profoundest regard for you for bring up the issue of prison rape. Jails are so supposed to be for punishment (not torture) and rehabilitation, but there issues that go beyond the crime itself. The rapists are not being rehabilitated when they learn to practice brutality in their everyday life. Also, it seems likely that the less bad criminals (and those mistakenly found guilty) are the likely victims of rape. And so, by allowing prison rape, we are punishing the milder criminals disproportionally.
Camera surveillance is so cheap these days. If we had the will, we could stop this abomination.
Would you really object to the death penalty for prison rapists?
