The real change came from John McCain, who has exactly zero pork projects. He’s been in DC for a lot longer than the other two combined, but the difference is that he hasn’t been corrupted by his tenure.

Interesting dichotomy, John McCain the politician (as opposed to his highly commendable youthful activities):

Rrom the start of his senate career until Election 2000, he voted and/or governed with great political integrity, with an 80-90 rating, but acted with less personal integrity, Keating 5.

2001 to present, he has voted with little political integrity with a rating of 65ish and a host of embarrassing laws bearing his name, but has acted with increasing political (and personal) integrity, as with giving up earmarks.

What does that portend for President McCain?

That $97 million dollars is pocket change. It’s the same equivalent of a guy who makes $400,000 dollars a year and spends $40. But when you add up all those pocket changes they do make a wee dent.

He’s only been there three years and he has almost $100 million going to Illinois to bolster his popularity for re-election when the time comes. Hillary’s been there seven years and has almost 300 pork projects to her (dis)credit, coming to almost $300 million.

Ed, as far as I understand it the report focuses only on Fiscal 2008. Those amounts are for one year.

Oink. Pork spending isn’t the real problem in and of itself. Compared to the whole budget, it’s just a drop in the bucket. The real problem with pork, it’s a symptom. A symptom of the power mad people, in both parties who run the Hill. It lets them reelect themselves, at our dime, and lets lobbyists buy themselves a Congressman.

Why John McCain is collaborating with Mexico against the United States by his willingness to grant Amnesty and Pardons to criminals who broke U.S. laws by entering America illegally?

The new national hero, on the other hand, for not inserting one penny of pork barrel spending is the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona. As a longtime staunch opponent of such earmarks, McCain may be expected to raise the subject of such special spending if Clinton becomes his Democratic opponent in the fall’s general election.

This is one of the limited number of things I like about McCain.
