Hillary aide Harold Ickes: We must destroy Obama with the Wright scandal before the GOP does

posted at 6:20 pm on April 1, 2008 by Allahpundit

We’ve seen this logic before in various forms — most recently at MyDD, most famously perhaps with Billy “Didn’t Obama use drugs?” Shaheen — but it always seems to come from someone on her side, doesn’t it? Not once to my knowledge have the Obamites floated the theory that Monicagate and Whitewater and impeachment and the various other peccadilloes that have so endeared the Clintons to us over the years should be revisited in the primary, before the Snidely Whiplashes at the RNC can use them to bludgeon Her Majesty into oblivion.

How tragic that our evil has compelled these fine, high-minded progressives to behave so ruthlessly.

“Look what the Republicans did to a genuine war hero,” Ickes said, in a reference to John Kerry.

“Super delegates have to take into account the strengths and weakness of both candidates and decide who would make the strongest candidate against what will undoubtedly be ferocious Republican attacks,” Ickes continued. “I’ve had super delegates tell me that the Wright issue is a real issue for them.”

In a reference to Wright’s controversial views, Ickes continued: “Nobody thinks that Barack Obama harbors those thoughts. But that’s not the issue. The issue is what Republicans [will do with them]…I think they’re going to give him a very tough time.”

Asked whether he was specifically bringing up Wright to super-delegates, Ickes said: “I’ve said what I’ve said…I tell people that they need to look at what they think Republicans may use against him. Wright comes up in the conversations.”

It tells you a lot about where the left stands on the merits of Wright’s crap that Ickes feels obliged to pawn this off on the right as some dirty trick, as though any objection to Obama nodding along for decades to lectures about “white folks’ greed” must surely be below the belt, beyond the bounds of polite political discourse. We’ve seen that logic at work recently too, but at least it’s a political apparatchik this time and not the “impartial” media that’s trying to define what constitutes Queensbury rules.

Follow the link to TPM and read down to the bottom for the exciting conclusion to this morning’s post about Hillary exercising the nuclear option at the convention. Will she do it? Yes, my friends, but reluctantly. Only to stop the GOP, you understand.

Update: Some new, fun, archived video from Newsbusters. The left’s sure going to be sore to discover that attacking McCain for his ties to Hagee now qualifies as a low blow, unfit for public discourse.

Jenny, you know I’d never hurt you. If it weren’t for this war and that lying SOB Johnson.

* Said that there was no risk of Hillary’s efforts “tearing the party apart,” described the current campaign as “genteel,” and dismissed those worrying about the damage the campaign could do to the party as “hand-wringers”

This is “genteel?”

john kerry, a war hero? Yeah, right. I’m still waiting for him to release ALL of his military records to the public, including the elusive DD214…

No, that’s what he has the media for. Hillary used to have them and be able to play the same game. O’Reilly showed last night how 3 or 4 columists wrote pretty much the same article at the behest of the Obaam campaign.

Single quotes make a big difference. The lefties are neither liberal, nor progressive.

However, the above quote, and this one

Monicagate and Whitewater and impeachment and the various other peccadilloes that have so endeared the Clintons to us over the years

remind again what a fine writer, and entertainer you are, AP.

As punches and counterpunches go, the Clintons have to do something big, to squelch the “Hillary was unethical/lied during the Nixon impeachment proceedings”. I thought it was over, but these are the Clintons, always remember that E.

Though this is big, but old. Surely the Clintons will come up with more, at the right time.

Genuine war hero….. John Kerry? Uh we don’t know that!

Ickes is insane. Kerry a war hero? That jackass spent 4 months in Vietnam mining for medals and then abandoned his comrades in arms and went home trash all of us. Good lord, he wasn’t in the combat zone long enough to qualify for R&R. How that phony dolt manages to still show his face in public is beyond understanding.

doubleplusundead on April 1, 2008 at 6:45 PM

Ickes is probably ticked off because Barack Obama WON Texas 99-94 in total delegates over the weekend (primary and caucuses) and picked up another net +2 delegates in Mississippi (now a 20-13 advantage, was 19-14) after the final results were recently certified.

olympian2008 on April 1, 2008 at 6:45 PM

rplat…..I could not agree more. It is beyond comprehension this creep and his cronies are still touting his military records. Baffoon!!!

The Wright thing isn’t over. Perhaps a candid shot of Barry leaping to his feet and applauding wildly at one of the sermons he says he never attended? She’s cornered and she’s dangerous.

“We must destroy Obama with the Wright scandal before the GOP does”

Sounds like a plan to me, Ickes. I say go for it. And hey, why don’t you throw in Obama’s support for his trouble-making Muslim cousin in Kenya while you’re at it.

AZCoyote on April 1, 2008 at 6:57 PM

Clinton Inc. will throw the kitchen sink at Obama over the next several months; nobody I know of expected anything different.

Obama has an arsenal of weapons by which to pull from as pieces of the Clinton kitchen sink continue to hit his ship. Obama has the media as his launching pad; Clinton Inc. didn’t expect this weapon to land on the Obama ship, therefore they have been somewhat slow with planning their attacks. But now the planning is complete, and the weapons are getting launched on a steady basis. Each time Obama launches a bomb towards the McCain ship, the bomb fails to detonate. Clinton Inc. can’t afford to waste any time launching bombs at the McCain ship; she must focus her weaponry on Obama. Clinton Inc. has the nuclear weapon coming in the form of Resko. Obama will be forced to go nuclear also, digging deep into the many skeletons in her closet.

We’re at the tip of the iceberg here folks… The Lib campaign has been fun to watch, and the best is yet to come.
OPERATION CHAOS has only just begun.

Yup, it’s the tip of the iceberg. But I think it’s Obama’s Wright wing radicalism that’s going to hurt more than Resko eventually.

Hillary’s snipers in Tuzla = J F’n Kerry’s Christmas in Cambodia. Both are burned into their memory.

nopendejos on April 1, 2008 at 7:23 PM

Why am I getting the impression that this story is a tad semi pro Obama?

Obama has the Wright scandal and “Rev.” Meeks and Wright are twins, so to speak, and both are affiliated with Obama. A person with sense would totally discount Obama, but obviously many are not to be found, because he still has scores of supporters. Of course I can not grasp that.

Hillary and Obama have enough ammunition to destroy each other.

petefrt on April 1, 2008 at 7:22 PM

Just as the dust surrounding Sen. Barack Obama’s long-term association with controversial minister Rev. Jeremiah Wright has begun to settle comes new reports of the democratic presidential hopeful’s connection to another racially divisive public figure—the stridently homophobic Rev. James T. Meeks, an Illinois state senator who also serves as the pastor of Chicago’s 22,000 member strong Salem Baptist Church.

Described in a 2004 Chicago Sun Times article as someone Barack Obama regularly seeks out for “spiritual counsel”, James Meeks, who will serve as an Obama delegate at the 2008 Democratic convention in Denver, is a long-time political ally to the democratic frontrunner.

When Obama ran for the U.S. Senate in 2003, he frequently campaigned at Salem Baptist Church while Rev. Meeks appeared in television ads supporting the Illinois senator’s campaign. Later, according to the same Chicago Sun Times article, on the night after he won the Democratic primary, Sen. Obama attended bible study at Meeks’ church ‘for prayer’ and ‘to say thank you.’

Since that time, not only has Meeks himself served on Obama’s exploratory committee for the presidency and been listed on the Obama’s campaign website as one of the senator’s ‘influential black supporters’, but his church choir was called on to raise their voices in praise at a rally the night Obama announced his run for the White House back in 2007.

Interestingly, the Chicago Sun Times has also reported that both Meeks and Obama share a history of substantial campaign contributions from indicted real estate magnate Tony Rezko.

Tip of the iceberg…

“Look what the Republicans did to a genuine war hero,” Ickes said, in a reference to John Kerry.

I did some serious news research yesterday-March 31, 2008-and was shocked to see how many members of the “objective” mainstream media are even now, almost 4 years later, “reporting” that the military people who served with Jean Kerry and who DARED to question his military experience are “liars” and “smear merchants”.

No mention of course that he’s never released all of his military records to the public, only to 3 select reporters from newspapers who endorsed him for President.

What’s he hiding?
