Every time I go down to the Mexican border, I’m struck by a down and dirty realization: This beautiful land looks like a dump.

Recently I was at a waist-high border vehicle barrier in a valley northeast of Tecate, Baja California. As far as the eye could see, strewn past barbed wire or collecting knee-deep in culverts, were water bottles, food wrappers, used paper products such as toilet paper and maxi pads, even felt shoe covers designed to obscure tracks.

That makes no sense.

Ohhhh…. I think I understand the source of confusion now.

When I told Myamphibian that I was apposed to deporting every single illegal immigrant I was trying to make the point that we don’t have to. Myamphibian is right that while it’s technically possible to deport most if not all of the illegals in the country, Americans just aren’t going to stand for it. The polls I’ve seen support this point of view.

But the point I was making isn’t that we should allow them all to stay, but that with employment verification and enforcement we won’t need to deport them all because they will deport themselves. My understanding is that Arizona’s program is a variation on this theme.

I have noticed ONLY those who have this ARGUEMENT are the SAME JACK ASSES who have ILLEGALS WORKING FOR THEM!

Am I missing something? It sounds to me like you think I’m a member of the same open-borders cabal that I’ve consistently trashed throughout this thread. We are on the same side of this issue even if we have different opinions on how to solve it, yet now you are siding with Myamphibian who seems to be in favor amnesty. That makes no sense.

I don’t worry about immigration much any more.

The Mexican birth rate has fallen to replacement levels, meaning that in about 15 to 20 years there simply won’t be enough Mexicans to drive the illegal immigration engine.

I’m more concerned about making sure we culturally assimilate those that are already here.

It’s not just Mexico. The population of Africa is roughly equal to Europe now, but by 2050 it is predicted to be 3X the population of Europe. I can dig up a quote from the president of some Asian nation, that when asked what she would do with a population expected to double in the coming years, said why of course we will send them to the West. This indicates that the developing countries view emigration as a viable solution to their population problems. The immigration problem is not resolved even if you remove Mexico from the equation.

If that sounds defeatist, tough luck, that’s reality.

If we build the fence first, and then start enforcing the law, we really do have to deport 12 million people.

Thompson mentioned “high fences with wide gates,” or something like that. I think the gate would open toward Mexico for those leaving, especially if they have their Mexican citizenship in place.
