3) fence: to know that those that sneak in, do so intentally and should NOT be afforded any protections, services or rights due leagal US citizens and residents.
4) global hawk: to take care of those Mexican troops escorting the drug dealers across the border - see #3.

What a bunch of bullshit. I have been living with this tripe about border enforcement since the early 60's. Truthfully, I bought into the charade four or five years ago after 9/11 but after the song and dance Bush put on at the border signing I learned my lesson. There will never be a fence. Get over it. Sovereignty is strictly an election trinket. The "One World" folks control the playing field. They could care less if Al Qaeda swarmed across the border and blew up every border town---it would only enhance their big brother control. Think about it. The next terror attack will bring even larger demands for more government.

Had Bush and company been serious about the border it would have been taken care of years ago by Army corp of engineers and built within two years. The fact that it wasn't tells you every thing you need to know about the supposed threat from terrorists etc at the border. As for the millions of 8th grade drop outs that flood across the border they don't care. This country hates itself in large enough numbers such that we willing to wilt and die much as Europe is doing now. As the saying goes, all great empires are conquered from within not from without.

The pain we are feeling is the fork stuck in our side. We are done. Get over it and go enjoy the rest of your life.

Why is it we can spend billions a month on troops to provide for Iraq's security, but not one dime for troops on our border to provide for our security?
Fences alone will never stop the infiltration of illegals and the drugs they bring with them. We need armed troops on our borders with the authority to protect it.

Promises, promises, promises, always promises. I hope he is serious this time, but our government’s history on doing what they propose about controlling the southern border is less than encouraging. I remember the same sort of promise after the 1986 amnesty.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me

The US government has absoultely no credibility on border fences. If they want me to believe anything they say they need to have an actual fence as evidence. Or is this HA's April fool post?

Sierra Club executive director Carl Pope said in a statement. "We don't think the destruction of the borderlands region is a laughing matter."

Dense.

Has he seen the 'environmental state' the 'borderlands' are in after it's been crossed?

Every time I go down to the Mexican border, I'm struck by a down and dirty realization: This beautiful land looks like a dump.

Recently I was at a waist-high border vehicle barrier in a valley northeast of Tecate, Baja California. As far as the eye could see, strewn past barbed wire or collecting knee-deep in culverts, were water bottles, food wrappers, used paper products such as toilet paper and maxi pads, even felt shoe covers designed to obscure tracks.

The invaders have already conquered and divided many major cities around the entire Chicago-pukeland area. With hunreds of spanish TV and Radio stations broadcasting 24/7 all over our country, what good is a fence now.?? Although better late than never.!! Just pray when McGramnesty gets elected he has Mitt to handle this issue, and not his two sidekick 24/7 shadows,Linsey Gramnesty and Joey the compassionate to everyone except the American born citizen Libertyman.

That makes no sense.

FloatingRock on April 1, 2008 at 7:37 PM

Ohhhh.... I think I understand the source of confusion now.

When I told Myamphibian that I was apposed to deporting every single illegal immigrant I was trying to make the point that we don't have to. Myamphibian is right that while it's technically possible to deport most if not all of the illegals in the country, Americans just aren't going to stand for it. The polls I’ve seen support this point of view.

But the point I was making isn't that we should allow them all to stay, but that with employment verification and enforcement we won't need to deport them all because they will deport themselves. My understanding is that Arizona's program is a variation on this theme.

I have noticed ONLY those who have this ARGUEMENT are the SAME JACK ASSES who have ILLEGALS WORKING FOR THEM!

upinak on April 1, 2008 at 7:09 PM

Am I missing something? It sounds to me like you think I’m a member of the same open-borders cabal that I’ve consistently trashed throughout this thread. We are on the same side of this issue even if we have different opinions on how to solve it, yet now you are siding with Myamphibian who seems to be in favor amnesty. That makes no sense.

I don’t worry about immigration much any more.

The Mexican birth rate has fallen to replacement levels, meaning that in about 15 to 20 years there simply won’t be enough Mexicans to drive the illegal immigration engine.

I’m more concerned about making sure we culturally assimilate those that are already here.

It's not just Mexico. The population of Africa is roughly equal to Europe now, but by 2050 it is predicted to be 3X the population of Europe. I can dig up a quote from the president of some Asian nation, that when asked what she would do with a population expected to double in the coming years, said why of course we will send them to the West. This indicates that the developing countries view emigration as a viable solution to their population problems. The immigration problem is not resolved even if you remove Mexico from the equation.

If that sounds defeatist, tough luck, that’s reality.

FloatingRock on April 1, 2008 at 6:16 PM

You obviously have never had to deal... and btw you are a defeatist. I have never seen anyone so absolute about keeping illegal here unless they have some reason! I.E. you post to amphibian:

(Lights match) I’m against deporting every single one of them too—imagine that—and I’m being totally honest about that. What does that do to your deportation argument, knowing that I believe everything I’ve said in this thread and yet I appose deporting all of the illegals just like you?(straw man goes poof)

The answer is that your argument isn’t relevant to my position on the issue
.

I have noticed ONLY those who have this ARGUEMENT are the SAME JACK ASSES who have ILLEGALS WORKING FOR THEM!

Please stop while you are ahead. You are the reason why many real American's stop using your services.

Is this an April Fool’s Joke?

Must be, especially this part:

This shows that the White House understands the need to provide border security before any hopes of temporary guest-worker programs or normalization processes can be considered.

Good one, Ed! Er, you were kidding, weren't you?

Here, let me fix it for you:

This shows that the White House <strike>understands the need to provide border security</strike> feels the need to indulge in a cynical and meaningless political ploy <strike>before any hopes of temporary guest-worker programs or normalization processes can be considered</strike> to help their open borders guy win the presidency.

If we build the fence first, and then start enforcing the law, we really do have to deport 12 million people.

Thompson mentioned "high fences with wide gates," or something like that. I think the gate would open toward Mexico for those leaving, especially if they have their Mexican citizenship in place.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your point?

Too Little, Too Late (special thanks to The Who)

When you say you'll enforce the border, we say too little
Too little, too little, too late.
When you say YOU really mean it, WE say too little
Too little, too little, too late.
You just couldn't see.
Now it's gonna cost you, your political legacy.

From what i’ve gathered, stopping the influx of illegal immigrants is much more important to the American people than deporting every single one if them.

Sorry, I'm going to have to burn down your deportation straw man again. BTW, it's the same one I burned down earlier in this thread; you might try something different next time.
