The hole the Democratic party finds itself in now is one that it has been digging for itself for the last 40 years when the radical left wing and the identity/agenda driven took control of the party. They have succeeded in turning the party “big tent” into an insane asylum and they turned the asylum over to the inmates when they made Howie Dean the party chairman.

They have sown the wind for the last 40 years and now they are reaping a bumper crop of whirlwind.

i’ve been looking all over for hard facts on how the Dim’s actually vote at their convention. from what i have been able to gather, there are major differences btwn the rules used by each party. the RNC rules seem to flow from each state’s party rules. most of which follow the first vote based on popular votes rule, with changes being allowed on subsequent votes. some need to vote the people’s choice for the second and perhaps even the third rounds before they can change. a few states allow no changes regardless. compare this to the DNC rules:

7. Roll Call for Presidential Candidate:
a. After nominations for presidential candidates have closed, the Convention shall
proceed to a roll call vote by states on the selection of the presidential candidate.
The roll call voting shall follow the alphabetical order of the states with the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico and the territories treated as states for the
purpose of the alphabetical roll call.
b. A majority vote of the Convention’s delegates shall be required to nominate the
presidential candidate.
c. Delegates may vote for the candidate of their choice whether or not the name of
such candidate was placed in nomination. Any vote cast other than a vote for a
presidential candidate meeting the requirements of Article VI of this Call and
Rule 12.K. of the 2008 Delegate Selection Rules shall be considered a vote for
“Present.”
d. Balloting will continue until a nominee is selected. The nominee shall become
the candidate of the Democratic Party of the United States for the Office of
President upon the conclusion of his or her acceptance speech.

If I read this section right, there isn’t even a “first vote” rule. I had heard that was the case in some news reports, but finding a hard link to a story saying so has proved… difficult. anyone with more/better info, please post it.

I mostly agree with you and Rush. But there’s lingering doubt that Algore’s ego can ever be quieted. He was raised to believe someday he’d be President. No matter how many Fleece Prizes and how much money he makes from the carbon offset racket, his little psyche probably still aches from his election defeat, and would find sweet the prospect of vindication.

you are forgetting his Fat, Bearded stage. he was in mourning, thinking Deep Thoughts. rebuilding his ego’s roots, going back to his younger more vital college days. back to when he was the subject of a famous book when he had his own dreams. dreams of being an eco-warrior. he burst forth on the world with a new plan, a bigger plan. he will never give that up, his new ego ideal will look down in bemusement at those who think he will step down from on high to save their silly little party. or something like that…

So far the results have been less than spectacular.

I’m not clear on why Algore would give up a cushy job to go back to low-paying government service.

Love him or hate him, Gore coming out as the nominee would throw McCain’s camp into chaos.

You have a point about McCain (time to back off on Global Warming hysteria, Johnny Mac!) but shed no tears for the possibility of Al taking a pay cut.

He profits directly from carbon offset schemes.

And don’t forget, in addition to the aforementioned penguin voting bloc, he also has the polar bears and caribou locked up.

Politics never disappoints. Unless Gore decides not to run.

Good post, Nahanni. The thought of anyone being handed the nomination who never received one vote really sticks in my craw. And this nonsense with the democrats did start in the 60s and has lasted for 40 years. Bill Clinton was supposed to be a movement back to the center and look how that turned out. Anyway, if Gore gets the nod, I will be running wild in the streets.

A few days in a tanning salon will get the “Black” and “Hispanic” vote.

And, a pair of fish-net stockings for the “Female” and “Gay” vote.
