To answer your question honestly AP, I think trying to tar Rudy with the same brush as Spitzer will be a stretch. He didn’t hire high priced call girls and hold up in expensive hotels with his long black socks still on, LOL!
No, he entered into an affair and threw his wife Donna Hanover away. He then MARRIED his mistress. No seedy tales of hookers in hotel rooms, no FBI lurking around on “structuring” or money laundering charges, just a guy that committed adultery and married his love interest. In today’s world of politics that is pretty tame…

Thank you! I have lived my entire life in NYC form the Wagner, Lindsay, Beame, Koch, Rudy, and now Bloomberg administrations. ThackerAgenncy is not from NYC. He is an ideologue (like my sister a Huckabee supporter because she is an anti abortion one issue fanatic) who probably hates anyone whom he cannot agree with on 10 out 10 issues. Remember how disgusting the subways used to be? You could not even see out of a subway window because of the graffiti. Pre-Rudy NYC - rent the movies Death Wish or The Warriors.

Rudy also told Al Sharpton that City Hall was no longer open to him.

Btw no big city mayor anywhere is going to call for citizens to be armed with guns.

You know Thacker, I lived in NYC prior to the Rudy regieme and during. You can cherry pick all kinds of issues, which the liberal press did ad nauseum, to take the man down. The fact is that he cleaned up the city with much screaming and shouting from everyone...
I will never forget his driving the prostitution trade out of Times Square. Guess what, you can now take your family to a show and dinner in Times Square thanks to Rudy.
Your harping on gun control laws falls on deaf ears... There are lots of good and bad things about politicians that we can go over and over. The fact is that Rudy and his admin. made the city livable again. I don't know where you live but, I can tell you as a NY'er that Rudy's reign made a remarkable difference in the city. Would you like me to go into detail about how a 20 something female was unable to go to dinner and a show before Rudy took power? I would be more than happy to relate my experiences.
Today my family and I can go right into the heart of Times Square and enjoy a dinner and a show. That just wasn't possible before Rudy took over.
I understand that this is a "one trick pony" but, tell me what other politicians in the great state of NY that haven't been sleeping with whores can atest to the same. Maybe I would vote for them...

Rudy was in charge during the Clinton years. So are you going to give Clinton credit for the technology boom? If you give Rudy credit for 'turning the city around' during a time of unprecedented economic prosperity, your understanding of how this stuff works together is skewed. More economic prosperity - without respect to the government - will lead to better times for a society - without respect to the government.

You want to give Rudy credit for Microsoft? and the Wall Street boom that gave him the revenue he needed to do whatever he wanted? Rudy ain't no superman. He's perfect for NY.

All of you people saying 'Rudy cleaned up the city that was crappy before he was mayor' realize that you sound exactly like Ms. Obama when she says she's proud to be American for the first time in her life.

ONE MAN did not 'turn the city around'. My problem with him was his denying his citizens' 2nd amendment rights. Why is it that you people don't see that that PHILOSOPHY is a bad thing. Rudy thinks that the government is the solution - as long as he's in charge (psssst. . . that's what liberals think).

The 2nd amendment says that the government may not be there to protect you when you need them so you need to be able to protect yourself. Rudy looked at a gun ban as 'protecting the cops'. And then he SUED the manufacturers because they dared to make a legal product. . . THAT TAKES BALLS OF A KIND THAT I DON'T WANT NEAR POWER.

Madison Conservative he wouldn't beat Clinton for the NY senate seat. He just wouldn't. He got ONE delegate out of his front runner status for a year. . . ONE. So is everyone just missing out on the great conservative messiah that this Rudy is?

If I were to put money on it, I'd put money on Hillary against Rudy in NY for the senate seat. There is no way Rudy beats Hillary in any election within a majority D region. Rudy can't even beat Ron Paul.

Ditto. New York Governor is a perfect role for Rudy. I would guess that current New York mayor Michael Bloomberg would also be very interested in running too.

There was an air of inevitability regarding Shpritzer becoming mayor.
Again my mistake. I meant "governor" not mayor. Also after 12 years of the lugubrious Pataki administration, I doubt another GOPer could have won in 2006.

There was an air of inevitability regarding Shpritzer becoming mayor. He had that phony persona as a "White Collar Crime Buster" that too many people bought into. May New Yorkers voted for Rudy for mayor because they rightfully put their safety over their ideology. For Governor they would have reverted to ideological and party loyalty. Shpritzer probably would have won (which shows again how stupid New Yorkers can be)a race against Giuliani.

Mind you, I think he’d be better off running for Hillary’s seat, just to stick it to her if she gets the nomination.

MadisonConservative on March 28, 2008 at 11:57 AM
I would love it if that happens! I think he could've beat her in the senate race had fate not intervened, and although I'm no big Rudi fan, he'd have been in a better position to run for the Whitehouse. And, Hill would hopefully just have been baking cookies in Chappaqua...*sigh*

Those types really should buddy-up with the brain-dead conservatives who can’t tell the difference between Rudy and Hillary or Chuckie Shumer, and think anybody from New York must be a doctrinaire liberal (roughly the same as saying Texas must be a hard left state, because look at the people elected to office in Austin).

Well said! The other anti Rudy types were people who were honchos in the municipal unions who were used to the city doing a financial Lewinsky on them. Rudy was a terrific mayor and he made the city safe enough for anti Rudy yuppie types to move into so they could hate him without being distracted by muggers (all the while sipping their over priced Starbuck's frappucinos). Rudy left his shrewish wife Donna "The Vagina Monologues" for a better woman - good for him! As for his kids, they are two dopey kids who I remember when they were young.

Most of the anti-Rudy New Yorkers who did live there during his mayoralty were the rich liberal Democrats, who had the $$$ to survive living in the city's decline because they had doormen for their building, limos or cabs so they never took the subway, never ate in public areas frequented by panhandles or gangs of obnoxious teens, etc.

Those types really should buddy-up with the brain-dead conservatives who can't tell the difference between Rudy and Hillary or Chuckie Shumer, and think anybody from New York must be a doctrinaire liberal (roughly the same as saying Texas must be a hard left state, because look at the people elected to office in Austin).

Despite a life long membership in the Republican Party, I can’t see one single reason for voting for Rudy, save and except, one hopes that most of his “sins” are already on his sleeve. But will his kids yet speak to him?

How about because he was the best mayor of NYC ever and turned a sewer around in 8 years? Most of the anti Rudy New Yorkers did not live here before he became mayor or moved in during his mayoralty and did not experience the "joys" of the Lindsay, Beame, Dinkins years. /sarcasm

How about because he was a terrific mayor (probably the best mayor ever) and turned a sewer of a city around?

Ya know, one of the WNY districts is looking for a R candidate for the House.
.
Seriously though, I think Hillary's seat is more vulnerable now than before. They both have baggage, but Rudy's leadership is actually demonstrable. I think he's one of those pols that is better in the Legislature than as an Executive. At least in Congress, his liberal tendencies are diluted--somewhat. He was my third choice as Prez, and for me his support of the GWOT trump several other things.
.
Anyway, everyone in Upstate NY knows that whatever NYC wants, they get, politically, socially, etc. So he may only need to campaign in 1 county, 5 boroughs, whatever.

Rudy is the best leader that America has seen since Reagan.

You've been dying for the opportunity to say this for months I'm sure!

I still say he should come out to Cali and run for governor.

Pretty much anyone would be better than the governator and maybe Rudy would be the best man to deal with "the MS-13 problem" on the east side of L.A.

He couldn’t beat Hillary for Senate because he got prostate cancer for God’s sake and had to drop out to tend to medical treatment.
I mean, really, you are welcome to not like Rudy as a political candidate but, let’s at least be honest about what went on in the past.
If YOU GOT PROSTATE CANCER do you think you would stop everything to save your own life?

...you do realize I'm talking about a future run against Hillary, right?

Rudy as NY Gov would give him a chance to prove his new found conservatism.

If he does govern as a conservative NY Gov, conservatives will be much more trusting if he tries for President again.

Just keep Rudy from doing something stupid like Ed Koch did in 1982 and insulting conservative upstate New Yorkers (no Playboy interviews, please), and he should win. Koch's screw-up gave New Yorkers 12 years of Mario Cuomo. If Rudy messes up, say hello to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

I'd vote for him in a heartbeat, and I suspect he'd make a good governor. One of his biggest problems in the presidential run was that he works much better as a challenger than a successor (one reason I think he'd be president right now if Al Gore won in 2000.) In this case, he could say that he's needed to clean up the mess left by two Democrats.

He and McCain would likely boost one another in the state, which would work out well for the both of them.
