CNN on recession: Bad for you — but good for the environment!

There’s a gray lining to the silver cloud, though: What if the recession’s so bad that corporations have to cut money for environmental projects?

Hard choices, my friends. Exit question: Worldwide economic depression — the only solution to global warming?

Update: There’s a better way.

I wonder what CNN’s carbon footprint is? Better shut it down just in case. If we can save just one tree it is worth it.

What?! Allah, we all know that corporations are worse than Hitler.

Especially that Fox…what? Fox has pushed green initiatives and even wanted to make the carpet green at the Oscar’s? Nevuh mind…

Hey, at least we’ll be transporting less stuff! We’ll just ignore that it means fewer people with jobs.

Vizzini on March 28, 2008 at 2:55 PM

Up next, the benefits of mass suicide.

Most retarded segment ever.

1)We’re not in a recession.

2)Their greenhouse gas premise is bullshit. Their landfill concerns are ignorant.

Dr. Manhattan on March 28, 2008 at 3:03 PM

Exit question: Worldwide economic depression — the only solution to global warming?

Yea, let everyone starve to death, the planet can then live in peace.

Just Keeping it Honest.

fogw on March 28, 2008 at 3:06 PM

As people starve to death there will be less pollution and need for less land dedicated to food production. You know a worldwide pandemic would be just the thing for the environment.

“US only recently interested in the Environment” Only 30+ years.

“Landfills pollute ground water” Not anymore. Landfills are lined and gases bled of.

This is what qualifies as responsible journalism?

I’ll pass.

Every silver lining has a touch of gray.

I’m the first person to make the reference?! HotAir is slacking these days.

WisCon on March 28, 2008 at 3:11 PM

Wow…. just wow…

You do know that this is EXACTLY what a lot of Enviro have been advocating for a long time?

Problem is that America has already cut back on a lot of its un needed driving… people still have to drive to work and such… there is a certain amount of transportation needed to sustain the economy at all… and we are rapidly hitting that point.

James on March 28, 2008 at 3:13 PM

The gurus at Planet Gore have been on this for a while. They showed that the slowdown in the economies in the industrial states have produced the greastest lessening of GHG emmisions (more than any of the Kyoto-signed idiot nations). I guess if we wanna save the planet then 10%+ unemployment is the way to go.

DUMB. DUMB. DUMB.

They don’t even realize how retarded they sound with this nonsense.

VolMagic on March 28, 2008 at 3:15 PM

If this has any legs, then why in the 1930’s was the dust bowl and record temperatures happening during the depression?

Wade on March 28, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Bring back the good old middle ages, when the biggest source of carbon footprints were the community dung heap and unburied plague dead. Of course the lords such as Sir Kennedy, Duchess Pelosi, Count Reid and Sir Kerry would need all of the modern conveniences (plus no windmills blocking their view), but we common folks would at least be forced to stop polluting.

Hening on March 28, 2008 at 3:24 PM

Well, yeah…whatever. What I want to know is, why is woot.com down during a freak woot off?!!1

Asher on March 28, 2008 at 3:25 PM

And Westhoven=KP in 10 years. Older sister maybe?

Ha. She looks older but a little googling reveals that she’s actually a few years younger. Powers just looks amazing for her age.

CNN uses more energy in one day of broadcasting with the lights, cameras, computers, teleprompter, satellite transmitters, news crews and big screen monitors than a small town uses in a week! I love it, it’s like the earth day celebration that left 1000’s of tons of trash or the Global warming concert that used more energy in one day that the entire country of Kenya in a year!

flytier on March 28, 2008 at 3:30 PM

Exit question: Worldwide economic depression — the only solution to global warming?

No. Worldwide economic depression is the goal of the global warming crusade.

Oh, yeah, what the hell was the point of that ridiculous piece?

Jaibones on March 28, 2008 at 3:54 PM

Worldwide economic depression — the only solution to global warming?

Wrong. The only solution to global warming is global thermonuclear war.

In one feld swoop, billions of carbon footprints will be eradicated from mother Gaia while the resulting nuclear winter would counteract any anthropogenic warming.

Entelechy on March 28, 2008 at 4:30 PM

She forgot about the part where companies who are producing less lay people off and they starve to death. I can see her now… “smaller populations, good for the environment.”

And what does she mean there’s no evidence? CO2 emissions tanked between 2000-2002 — because of the recession. And if I remember correctly, the Dems didn’t compliment Bush on his environmental record. Instead I recall hearing “worst president since Herbert Hoover” quite a bit while, ironically, they were also accusing him of ruining the environment. I believe what we’re seeing here is the advance spin for when the Dems ruin the economy.

By the way… did anyone else notice that the economy started to decline as soon as the Dems won congress. Not that they’re to blame for the current credit markets meltdown, but it is a coincidence that the press ignores as they blame Bush.

Spolitics on March 28, 2008 at 5:44 PM

Here’s the argument for watching a crazy-eyed marxist broad wax eco-philosophical to her pin-stripped Uncle Fester on CNN - while pretending to talk economics.

It only runs 2:12

Teddy on March 28, 2008 at 6:21 PM

You know,, the people that are out there preaching to us are the ones making the biggest carbon footprints!! Most of us don’t own TV studios! It isn’t the average guy out there jetting around the world! How big of a carbon footprint is made each and every time Hollywood makes a freakin movie!! How much of a carbon footprint is needed to keep Michael Moore’s fat rear end fed for a week!! How much of a carbon footprint is produced by congress, Hillary, Al Gore and all the other stinking filthy liars that call themselves politicians!!

JellyToast on March 28, 2008 at 6:34 PM

Solutions to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions from the party of death: more abortions, more suicides, more wars, more genocide, more euthenasia, etc. This is how the Dems/Libs/Greens will save the planet. Where are the mass murders who kill millions? (Perhaps stopping Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Saddam is the real cause of global warming?)

jerseyman on March 28, 2008 at 7:31 PM

That’s the liberals’ (and, sadly, McCain’s) solution to global warmism: permanent recession through massive taxation.

misterpeasea on March 28, 2008 at 8:51 PM

The only sure-fire cure to a recession is to elect a Democrat. After that, the word “recession” will disappear from the news.

Won’t change actual economic status, of course, but you’ll feel better about it.

Someone remind me how many consecutive quarters of negative economic growth we’ve had?

What? Zero? That can’t be right, the MSM has been talking about the “Bush Recession” for about 7 years now…
