Vets for Freedom: Pete Hegseth

posted at 5:45 am on March 26, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

In this video, Pete Hegseth introduces the men whom he calls the heroes that America needs. Hegseth organized Vets for Freedom as a means to counter the media apathy and antipathy he encountered when he returned to America after his hitch in Iraq. Hegseth speaks passionately about the need for people to listen to the men who have actually fought this war, especially in the differences they have seen in the country between 2004-5 and 2007-8.

Hegseth also noted later in the evening that the VFF will continue its ride for the next two weeks. They will arrive in Washington DC at the same time when General David Petraeus appears to give his next report to Congress. Hegseth and the rest of the VFF team will be meeting with members of Congress to urge them to support the mission in Iraq. If you want to contribute to that effort, follow the above link to the VFF website to discover how you can help.

Again, great job Ed. Thanks.

I’m sure General Washington would be proud! I know my family and I are very, very proud and grateful that these young people have volunteered and served our country at great personal cost. Thanks and My God Bless them all.

What, specifically, are the much referred to political benchmarks? Opponents of the war routinely say the war is lost because of lack of political progress. But I never hear specifics. They seem to imply that if such and such has not been done by some hallowed date it is a sure sign of defeat. They seem to be knowledgable about some international, intergalatical set of standards by which one can prove the situation hopeless. Is there some such thing written in stone and kept in a vault in Geneva. To me it seems laughable to imagine that a country could transform itself from brutal dictatorship to a vibrant democracy in five years, yet, this seems to be the standard seriously proposed by the critics of the war.
