McCain: “We have incurred a moral responsibility in Iraq”

Two money excerpts from today’s big foreign policy speech to the Los Angeles Human Affairs Council, the text of which you’ll find here. The first half is aimed at convincing McCainocrats that he’s not Bush: “Mutual respect and trust” with our allies, no torture at home, a shiny new UN-esque “League of Democracies” to check American power and promote illiberal values abroad, etc etc. The one part where I perked up was where he called for Russia to be kicked out of the G8 and replaced with Brazil and India. Compare that with the passage where he calls for (cautious) outreach to China, provided they clean up their human rights record. A provocative triangulation.
The segments here come from the very beginning and very end of the speech. The latter is the bitter pill he’s asking swing voters to swallow after spooning on the sugar; the former is his attempt to derail the Democrats’ endless carping about his “100 years in Iraq” comment. Can a man who spent five years having his limbs broken in an enemy prison camp really be regarded as sweet on war? We’ll find out soon.

Carter didn’t destroy the country in 4 years, and in fact helped very much to lead to Reagan, and Clinton didn’t destroy the country in 8 years.
Don’t you go being even more pessimistic than I am.

Lets face it, this is a compromise election at best, conservatives have no choice but to hope and pray McShame wins, regardless of how much it hurts. The alternative will destroy the United States, it is that simple!

This is so true.
Among other things I cannot believe he’s talking about global warming. Doesn’t he have staff that keep up with some of the science announcements about this that have been coming out over the last few weeks? I know he may not have the time to keep up with things, but what about his advisors??? This underlines the importance of the people with whom you surround yourself.

Yes, the U.S. does have an obligation.
But so does Iraq. It’s their independence after all. I have long been distressed that our men and women are fighting for Iraq’s freedom more than Iraqi’s are. That has started to change, but it must continue in a big way.
But surrendering to terrorists is the worst play. We haven’t been called “paper tiger” since shortly after 9-11.

While I respect McCain for his service to our country, there is no way I will be able to vote for him in November.
He may be a republican, but he is no conservative.
I refuse to vote for a liberal who was selected for us by crossover democrats.

That’s the only decent speech I’ve ever heard him give…

I like George, I think history will be more than kind.
That being said, I havent seen Sen. McCain’s speech from above. But the quote itself was a shot in the arm for me.
It is the reason Jon McCain will win the election.
Regardless of the reasons, we are in a war.
So are the good Iraqis.
It is paramount that we build a new alliance based on the conquering of evil.
The words I read above are the words I want everyone to hear in the world. To abandon the Iraqis at this junction would be the death of the soul of America.
That is why the good Iraqis and its supporters will win.
That is why John McCain will be the next President.

How did Sec. State, General Colin Powell put it; concerning the Bush bull roaming around in the Iraqi china closet?
Question is; why didn’t he say this before the airhead neocons, pulled the trigger?

How does that quaint colloquialism go again…”Going to hell in a hand basket or was it a hand cart?”
“
Can you stand the truth?
