Clinton: Yes, the threat of terrorism from across the southern border is real
posted at 12:24 pm on March 26, 2008 by Allahpundit
The second in an impromptu series of why conservatives should prefer Hillary to Obama. Despite a perfunctory promise to tighten the borders, the Messiah’s rhetoric on this subject is, as usual, doctrinaire left/libertarian notwithstanding the evidence on the subject. Immigration and terrorism aren’t related, never were related, and never related shall they be:
Obama proceded to give Bowman a social sciences lesson, explaining “Immigrants are coming into the country and not blowing things up. They are usually working in meat packing plants, or working in restaurants or working in agriculture, picking vegetables…”…
“We’ve got a problem with terrorists who are trying to kill us… That’s a separate problem from immigrants,” Obama assured Bowman.
Enter the Clenis, acknowledging that there’s never been a terrorist attack from across the southern border — although there was an attempt across the northern border, which his own administration stopped — and then patiently explaining why that’s irrelevant.

Hmmmm, shame the Clintons didn’t worry about terrorists crossing the southern border back in the 1990s…
Lehuster on March 26, 2008 at 12:30 PM
I live in Texas, and we have immigration but not assimilation, which means we are no longer one country but many and that is where we lose our greatness. ASSIMILATE DAMNIT or don’t come here, and that is for everyone!
rgranger on March 26, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Were three words ever worse strung together? I kid!
RushBaby on March 26, 2008 at 12:40 PM
I just wish he’d shut-up.
An ex- President acting like some PR agent continues to be a disgrace.
jimmer on March 26, 2008 at 12:41 PM
You know, if only Bill Clinton could have been able to do something to stop the illegal border crossings. Maybe he should have run for president, so he could have had the power to work on the problem.
rbj on March 26, 2008 at 12:43 PM
He actually gave a detailed analysis of what’s going on and sounded knowledge. I disagree with the Clinton’s on several issues but I can say they are knowledgeable about the issues and that is why Hillary defeated Obama in almost every debate.
terryannonline on March 26, 2008 at 12:43 PM
Didn’t some of the Fort Dix plotters come across our southern border?
kcluva on March 26, 2008 at 12:48 PM
Bubba Billy is once again on his never ending quest to establish a legacy for himself, even though all he managed to do for the years he served was stink up the halls of the White House. He had eight years of his term to do something about the southern border and curb the present immigration situation and he and his merry band of bozos did nothing. Now he is harping about the situation like he it would be different if he was in a position to do something about it. Only problem with that train of thought was that HE WAS, and he did diddly.
pilamaye on March 26, 2008 at 12:51 PM
That’s okay. We’re not worrying about it now either.
Darksean on March 26, 2008 at 12:52 PM
I like the Lou Dobbs approach much better. We can’t continue to flood our country with ignorant peasants and expect to maintain a high standard of living; it will kill the middle class. Why are these spineless, pandering politicians so braindead on this.
What next, drain Haiti and let all of them in here? Do you think for one second that doing so would not be a epic disaster? Out quality of life is already going downhill because of so many illegals. There are many States with less than 20 million people. The quality of the American public is dropping with all the cheaters being pandered to, and being trained that lying, cheating, and stealing is OK.
saiga on March 26, 2008 at 12:55 PM
By this logic, we should prefer Hillary to McCain. They can both lump it.
Valiant on March 26, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Jerk.
terryannonline on March 26, 2008 at 1:01 PM
Oh yeah, Terryannonline, this flood of illegals from south of the border is just chock full of well-educated, erudite pillars of hispanic society, who are busily assimilating into the great American culture and making numerous valuable contributions to all areas of American science, mathematics, medicine and technology.

Just people haven’t attended our liberal indoctrinated American schools doesn’t make them ignorant. Just because people use their hands and backs to do some hard work still doesn’t make them ignorant. I’m sorry but I found that comment was way out of line.
terryannonline on March 26, 2008 at 1:18 PM
Truth hurts. They are ignorant. They are peasants. Doesn’t mean they are stupid or lazy, but they are most definitely ignorant peasants.
Lehuster on March 26, 2008 at 1:25 PM
Heh. No wonder why conservatives and Republicans have the reputation of thinking they are above poor people.
terryannonline on March 26, 2008 at 1:31 PM
The comment was unelegant and somewhat demeaning. However you must admit that it was fairly accurate. Most illegal immigrants would be considered ignorant. Ignorant not to be confused with stupid. For the most part they are uneducated manual laborers. Ignorance can be fixed stupid is forever.
Oldnuke on March 26, 2008 at 1:32 PM
The point is that lying, cheating, stealing IDs is a very bad thing. And, looking past that simply because these people are trying to better their lives is also bad. There are millions of people world wide trying to better their lives, and honesty, hard work, and high ethical standards can produce good results.
We should be encouraging positive, law abiding behavior.
Ignorant was a poor choice of words. Uneducated would have been better, but it is a longer word to type.
saiga on March 26, 2008 at 1:33 PM
No, that’s not a wonder at all. Mostly due to creative editing from the liberal controlled media.
Oldnuke on March 26, 2008 at 1:34 PM
Don’t we already?
Why was that a jerk comment? What was inaccurate in that particular part? Illegal immigrants are ignorant (of laws, customs, the English language, etc.) and poor (and if they aren’t, they just lost the only reason people sympathize – because they’re so poor they have ‘no other option’ but to immigrate illegally).
Oh, Bill; if only you weren’t a lying rapist.
emailnuevo on March 26, 2008 at 1:36 PM
i don’t believe I am above poor people. I AM above illegal people though.
Darksean on March 26, 2008 at 1:38 PM
That reputation comes from cheeky idiots like you, not from conservatives. My grandmother, who is a legal immigrant, married a dashing American soldier and waited, for over three years, before moving with her children (and husband) to the United States. She’s not ignorant, and the millions like her who break their backs and try their own patience to bring their kids to this country are not ignorant.
The ones who run across fences and break laws, are ignorant.
emailnuevo on March 26, 2008 at 1:39 PM
I don’t think Republicans feel that way at all. I look at it like the old addage that if you give a man a fish, he eats today. If you teach that man how to fish, he eats every day.
If you encourage a man to steal fish from a fisherman, the thief eats and the hard working fisherman does not.
Honesty is the best policy, and dishonesty should be discouraged. Illegal immigrants are cheaters, period. And, the ends don’t justify the means. I am for expanding legal immigration and making it easier. But, I am also a believer that the illegals should forfeit their place in line.
saiga on March 26, 2008 at 1:43 PM
That, sir, was uncalled for.
Darksean on March 26, 2008 at 1:51 PM
“Obama proceded to give Bowman a social sciences lesson, explaining “Immigrants are coming into the country and not blowing things up.” Not yet.
Billy lies like a rug, over and over again. But he can’t hep it.
His comment about not offering education to illegal immigrants or their children: just look at the cuts to education that Ahnult just passed. He had no choice because our tax dollars can’t be stretched that far. It’s heart-breaking and frustrating because most of the country isn’t aware of how big the problem is and will be if we leave the back door open and don’t crack down on those who pay for ‘slave labor’ It would be better to help the Mexican people overthrow their gov’t so that they don’t have to risk their lives and well-being getting here or risk deportation.
The movie: ‘The Border’ explains all this well, I highly recommend it.

1. Punish those who hire illegals.
2. Deport any illegals that cross the path of law enforcement.
3. Secure the border
4. Put the mash on Mexico to stop aiding illegal immigration
5. Create both carrot and stick incentives to encourage illegals to leave by shutting down welfare, free education, free medical, no automobile insurance, no housing subsidies, no foodstamps, a financial reward for turning themselves in.
6. Eliminate the rediculous concept of Sanctuary cities.

Wind Rider on March 26, 2008 at 2:04 PM
If we secured the border first, and then offered a $2500. per person cash reward to illegals for turning themselves in, we would be dollars ahead. And, the returning illegals would have some money to spend down south to help their economy. A family of 6 would get $15,000.
Chicken feed compared to what they cost us now. Also, we need to shut down the anchor baby law. It just encourages more law breaking. We need people here that belong here, not those that don’t.
saiga on March 26, 2008 at 2:06 PM
I like it! Pay to turn them in and give them a free ride home. But what happens when they take the money and then come back illegally?
Darksean on March 26, 2008 at 2:17 PM
I don’t want to reward bad behavior. I don’t want to give them anything. You’d have people sneaking across just to turn themselves in and collect the reward. You’d be better off offering $2500 to citizens for every illegal they turn in, and that’d be a terrible idea. Just remove the incentive.
Oldnuke on March 26, 2008 at 2:21 PM
Perhaps. But I do think it’s an accurate, if over-the-top, observation.
emailnuevo on March 26, 2008 at 2:23 PM
Must secure the border first!
saiga on March 26, 2008 at 2:25 PM
Perhaps, but she’s a good egg, on our side.
I think the use of the word “ignorant” works actually. Ignorance is not an indication of intelligence. It means they don’t know, not they can’t know.
Darksean on March 26, 2008 at 2:29 PM
I would expect people here, of all places, to realize that 9/11 changed our perspective on many things.
Oh yeah, there was no terrorism at all in the 1990s… and Ramzi Yousef and his buddies were here legally… nope, no way at all to connect the dots between vulnerability to terrorism and uncontrolled borders.
Lehuster on March 26, 2008 at 2:30 PM
I would expect people here, of all places, to realize that 9/11 changed our perspective on many things.
And here’s another example – Mir Amal Kansi, got into the country illegally in 1991, committed a terrorist act on Clinton’s watch. Yup, keep those borders open, no vulnerability to terrorism here!
Lehuster on March 26, 2008 at 2:34 PM
But what happens when they take the money and then come back illegally?
That’s where the brand on the forehead before you put them on the plane comes into play. =)
Lehuster on March 26, 2008 at 2:35 PM
Yes and Yes.
The lack of border security and Visa over-stays
is a serious national security issue.
Notice that the Fort Dix terrorist plotters who were illegal aliens were discovered just prior to the McCain-Graham-Amnesty-Ted Kennedy-George W. Amnesty bill.
Yet the Fort Dix episode did nothing to wake up our politicians to the fact that providing amnesty to illegal aliens jeopardizes national security.
Under McCain-George W-Kennedy plan, the Fort Dix terrorists would have been USA citizens, if only they had just waited longer.
ColtsFan on March 26, 2008 at 2:38 PM
I just drives me crazy that we are being invaded and nobody, and I mean nobody is doing anything about it. 20 million is a lot of people straining all our services and institutions. I could take the population of a half dozen States and not reach 20 million. People I speak with all over rhe Country are seeing the same thing.
I guess when we reach the Kosovo effect some politicians will wake up. Imagine to government we will have when the electorate shifts to illegals granted amnesty. It has already happened in Los Angeles; with gangs running the city and no law and order. The only choice for honest people is gated communities or hire full time security to watch your house.

Hi Terry:
My purpose is not to defend the semantics or the choice of words used earlier by previous HA commentators.
My purpose is to convey to another fellow Christian believer, like yourself, why I believe illegal immigration—and all its various forms—is a serious danger to our country.
As a Christian, my chief problem with illegal immigration is that it encourages lawlessness, relativism, stealing, and anarchy. And that is contrary to the purpose of God-ordained government outlined in Romans 13.
I have always read your HA posts in the past with interest. And I think you probably have a more nuanced view of illegal immigration for a couple of reasons. But I just wanted to share my thoughts on this matter with a fellow believer.
ColtsFan on March 26, 2008 at 2:54 PM
Well said. The only compassionate reason for supporting illegal immigration is the fact that they are usually poor, and they only want to better their lives.
In the long run, however, the results just lower the common denominator, and they defeat the purpose, and harm others.

To those commenters who who complain about Hispanics not assimilating, they are! They are assimilating American into Hispanic.
OldEnglish on March 26, 2008 at 5:03 PM
I’d add that tolerance of illegal immigration is a part of the arrogance of trying to create a utopian multicultural society which as outlined in Genesis 11 goes against God’s express will.
(The word Utopia literally means a ‘non-existent place’)
aengus on March 26, 2008 at 7:17 PM
I read somewhere that it has a double meaning in Greek. No or not place and an alternate meaning of good place. Don’t know if that’s true or not since I don’t speak Greek, ancient or otherwise.
Oldnuke on March 26, 2008 at 9:32 PM

Irrelevant. This nation does not consist of ignorant peasants now, today, and we’re not doing ourselves any favors by importing a lot of them.
