Matthews: Who would Hillary rather see win, Obama or McCain? Update: “The Tonya Harding option”?

He appears to be asking in earnest, as did Jon Chait yesterday at TNR, but the answer is so obvious as to make the question rhetorical. Interesting that this meme suddenly seems to be circulating, though. The peg, I’m guessing, is the growing worry that all the fighting is making things easier for Maverick. Questioning her loyalty to the party ratchets up the pressure on her to get out early a tiny bit more, as if she’s supposed to fold up her tent a month before Pennsylvania when she’s got a 20-point lead and the Wright thing is still active.

Don’t worry, boys, she’ll be finished by Carolina. Exit question: What if Gore, Pelosi, and a few other super-superdelegates band together and call on her to quit before Pennsylvania so that Obama can focus on the general? Don’t laugh; Harry Reid’s already dropping dark hints about things “being done” behind the scenes to resolve the situation. Exit question two: How much longer will Drudge milk the Hillary/CBS story at the top of the Report? It’s already been up there a good 20 hours. Is he going to ride it for the full 24? She is, after all, his special lady: “I need Hillary Clinton. I need to be part of her world.”

Update: This sounds to me like an Obama lackey trying to play off the Matthews/Chait meme and demonize her as someone so psychotically spiteful that she’d destroy the party if she can’t be the nominee. Which isn’t to say it’s not true.

Hillary is for Drudge what Britney is for TMZ. It’s a symbiotic, co-evolutionary relationship. Which is the parasite and which is the host? Who can tell?

The question is, why does Matthews want Hillary to throw in the towel and let McCain win?

Dusty on March 25, 2008 at 4:27 PM

Frankly, I don’t know about this guy Chris Matthews.

He intrigues me.

Have you heard this?

I posted it this morning.

In other news, Chris Matthews announced today that he’s not gay.

He issued a statement saying:

“The smear campaign against me by the Right Wing Bloggers must stop.”

He added:

“There is nothing wrong with masturbating while listening to Barack Obama. It’s a grown-up thing and I’ve done it many times during every one of his speeches.”

Hussein’s campaign issued a statement saying that “Senator Obama is deeply concerned about Mr. Matthews behavior and hope that his deep love and affection for the Senator will not destroy his marriage.”

Indy Conservative on March 25, 2008 at 4:28 PM

Besides being a worthless traitor, Harry Reid has close associations with a series of Mafia Masters out there in Nevada.

Hillary better watch her back or “Mr. Clean Face” will have one of his Capos see to it that she “sleeps with the fishes”.

NoDonkey on March 25, 2008 at 4:29 PM

Is this a trick question?

To quote Maroney from the movie Johnny Dangerously…”It’s a fargin trick question….!!!!”

Liberty or Death on March 25, 2008 at 4:31 PM

Of course HildaCackleBeast would like for Juan to win as that way she could run again in 2012.

MB4 on March 25, 2008 at 4:31 PM

How about both Hillary and Obama give up.

That way we won’t have to wait till November.

Does anyone believe Matthews is sanctimonious?

Exit question: What if Gore, Pelosi, and a few other super-superdelegates band together and call on her to quit before Pennsylvania so that Obama can focus on the general?

Exit answer: Moderate dem white women stay home or vote for McCain. As well as a lot of moderate to conservative dem white men. McCain landslide.

Someone give me a gold star I predicted this months ago

William Amos on March 25, 2008 at 4:32 PM

Obama is clearly Public Enemy #1 to Bill and Hill now.

And since McCain and she are “such good friends” who knows?

Domino on March 25, 2008 at 4:32 PM

The “Tonya Harding option”?! I love it. The Dems are really into Thunderdome territory. How much worse can it get?

Vote Sauron 08 on March 25, 2008 at 4:33 PM

Did hillary leak the blue dress story to Drudge? Is that what the implication of the Guardian story is?

JiangxiDad on March 25, 2008 at 4:34 PM

Well would Obama rather see McCain win than Hillary win? I think it goes both ways.

Terrye on March 25, 2008 at 4:35 PM

Update: “The Tonya Harding option”?

I thought Hillary hired Tanya to “knee-cap” her opponents? I guess Tanya defected, makes sense as I’m sure the pay is better in the Obama camp since he raises more money than Hill-da-beast!

Liberty or Death on March 25, 2008 at 4:37 PM

The hero of our time? What a complete ass Chrissy is. I guess an anti-American racist is his idea of a hero.

Drudge hasn’t headlined any negative Obama story. Wonder why?

bnelson44 on March 25, 2008 at 4:37 PM

Hillary may destroy the party, but I think Obama has a good chance of causing major riots and hurting the country.

Blake on March 25, 2008 at 4:37 PM

They’ll put HRC in a position where she either drops out for the good of the party or doubles down and gives a speech about how she refuses to take anymore for the team, playing whole deck of gender cards including the double standard about women and age if she has to wait another four or eight years to run again. She’ll turn those old Virginia Slims “You’ve come a long way, baby” ads into an Al Gore style “He betrayed this country” speech.

Check out some of the comments on the Niall O’Dowd story at TPM Election Central. They left vicious and spiteful a long time ago. Now these Dems are deep into contempt and heading for hate. Really appalling stuff. Pantsuit and Messiah are actually destroying the party before our eyes. Astonishing.

Blake on March 25, 2008 at 4:44 PM

The point ought to be that if any of the major media had bothered to report on Wright when they should have, back before any of primaries, Obama would have been the speck on Silky’s vote tally and Hillary would be duking it ought with McCain now as the Dem’s nominee-in-waiting.

As it is now, the media, by their neglect and malfeasance, has foisted not only another sure loser but also intra-party rancor on the Democratic Party.

Dusty, of course, is right. The media can’t cop to its own malpractice though, so expect them to get uglier and uglier in an effort to cover their asses…all the way to November. Hopefully their idiocy will become so extreme that they will lose what credibility they still had as of a couple of months ago.

Here’s hoping the “Tonya Harding Option” doesn’t involve the leaking of a sex tape…

Blacklake on March 25, 2008 at 5:04 PM

When is someone in the msm or the left going to ask Matthews why he acts like a gay horndog every time Obama’s name is mentioned? It is so over the top and so out of the closet it’s embarrassing. He did it with Clinton and now he is doing it with Obama but he is much more overt about it with Obama.

Blake on March 25, 2008 at 5:07 PM

Just imagine all this ire currently directed towards the HillBilly. Now imagine it metastasized, intensified ten-fold and directed entirely at John McCain, who hasn’t had a successful (or even competent) go at fund-raising since late ‘07, hasn’t built anything resembling a working campaign infrastructure, has very little support from his base and has never once had a thorough media vetting.

Operation CHAOS is the closest thing we’re going to get to electoral victory this cycle.

The question shows what truly comes first for demofascists, party before country. It’s not possible for a democrat to ever support a republican over a democrat? They are all sick, sick people.

I hope this shows lasts a long time.

It’s really hysterical that Maverick (the conservative Democrat) is skating through this period of the election and looking presidential, and the two jack asses (liberal Democrats) are kicking each other.

This sounds to me like an Obama lackey trying to play off the Matthews/Chait meme and demonize her as someone so psychotically spiteful that she’d destroy the party if she can’t be the nominee. Which isn’t to say it’s not true.

Allah

As God is my witness, I don’t know the answer to the original question. I actually think she would rather see McCain win, and it seems rather obvious to me.

Hasn’t that been the subplot of the whole primary season, that the Clintons care nothing about the party and only about their own political power? I assume now that the math goes like this: she wants McCain to beat Obama on the outside chance that he just won’t have the juice for a second term, so she can run again in 4 years. Right? No?

Jaibones on March 25, 2008 at 5:32 PM

Rev God Damn America is not going away. There will be many viral videos of stuff he said, likely worse, with Obama nodding along in agreement.

It’s easy, the technology is there. Heck I could probably do it in a pinch. And I know nothing about video.

That stuff will circulate around. The media is no longer the gatekeeper. As long as it’s funny and emotional it will make the point that Obama is an anti-White lunatic who hates America and believes in nutty conspiracy theories just like Rev. God Damn America.

Obama can’t win and will drag down the Blue Dogs in the House at least with him. Hillary’s best play is to make sure all her dirt gets dumped out in the open, even or especially if Obama is the nominee. She can then four years later tell the Party “see what you get with a fling?”

Obama was undefined. Now for most of America he’s “God Damn America.”

Why don’t you just ask John Kerry.

Newsflash Chrissy - The Clintons are for the Clintons (period)!

RobCon on March 25, 2008 at 6:03 PM

Don’t laugh; Harry Reid’s already dropping dark hints about things “being done”

She could care less what Gore (whom she never liked), Pelosi (whom she considers a tiny bird), and Reid (the weasel) think.

On the question - MB4 nailed it. With Obama it w/b 8 years of him, potentially another 4-8 of his VP - with McCain, she can run again in 2012, and he’s not that far apart from her anyway, on many major issues.

Entelechy on March 25, 2008 at 6:17 PM

Did Chrissy have a stroke? Looks like he was having a little problem wiping that drool spit off his bottom lip about :30 in.

rhodeymark on March 25, 2008 at 6:31 PM

Mathews has a serious man-crush on Obama, no doubt.

Mrs. Clinton will not quit early. Will not go quietly into that good night. She will play out the string and then trust her ‘closing argument to the jury’ to turn the tide.

By then, Mathews will have the Obama life sized poster, action figure and commemorative plate set.

DrW on March 25, 2008 at 6:33 PM

The crazy leftists think that Hillary wants Obama to win, and is deliberately trying to bring down Obama to help, and then she’ll take over in 2012.

Hillary Clinton: Your 3rd party choice!

SouthernGent on March 25, 2008 at 6:52 PM

That’s an easy one. Hillary feels if the Dems don’t give her her coronation nomination, then they can all roast in hell.
