Dan Abrams: Hey, how about prosecuting Rush Limbaugh for Operation Chaos? Flashback: “Let’s have some fun in Michigan,” says Kos

In which the son of one of America’s most prominent First Amendment lawyers drools over the thought of Republicans being sent to the pen for ignoring a state-mandated loyalty oath. If his pal Olby urged Countdown’s nutroots viewers to defy an unconstitutional GOP oath, they’d be running promos at MSNBC about the “noble tradition of civil disobedience.” As it is, he and Jeralyn Merritt are happy to sit there and game out ways of getting Limbaugh frog-marched away. It’s of a piece with the left’s interminable whining about Hillary and the superdelegates: Instead of recognizing that the rule is stupid and should be changed, they fault their opponent for using that rule to his/her advantage. The obvious solution would be to close all primaries and require voters to change their registration three or six months in advance, before the race shaped up and strategic voting angles became evident. But why do that when you can whine about people being “un-American”?
In any case, Chaos isn’t illegal in Pennsylvania — and people are taking full advantage. Keep hope alive, Hillary! Click the image to watch.
Update: I’d forgotten all about this but commenter SoulGlo didn’t. Here’s Kos on January 10, urging his readers to skip the meaningless Democratic primary and cross over to vote for Romney for precisely the same reason Limbaugh has vis-a-vis Hillary: “[W]e want Romney in, because the more Republican candidates we have fighting it out, trashing each other with negative ads and spending tons of money, the better it is for us. We want Mitt to stay in the race, and to do that, we need him to win in Michigan.”

Steven Colbert said that MSNBC is the Filet o’ Fish on the cable news channel menue. I think it could more accurately be described as the McRib.
Sean68 on March 25, 2008 at 7:02 PM
I agree with that, but why do Virginia and other states have open primaries? In the primaries in these states everyone is treated as an independent. This is the only election in my memory where I actually needed to ponder whether that’s good or not.
Oldnuke on March 25, 2008 at 7:03 PM
Well… Abrams, Olbermann, Matthews, and Shuster couldn’t get Rove frog-marched, so I suppose Rush will have to do… another trek to nowhere with the left.

Can anyone reach Abrams and
shove this up hisask him why it was acceptable for Kos to do the same?drjohn on March 25, 2008 at 7:09 PM

Around the time of the South Carolina primary I read an article stating that in SC the open primary had been used as a way to get new names for the Republican party.
I believe this is the article I read, GOP debates closing primary. It’s from 2006 :
This article goes on to say that only about 2% of voters crossover (but this was from 2006). I hope after this election the states will rethink this. IMO primaries should be closed and you should have to declare affiliation several months ahead of time.

Ha ha ha leftists voted for Romney to keep the trash talking, negative campaigning, mormon without out a chance of winning the general in the game.
All Romneybots should be ashamed of themselves.

Personally Oldnuke I don’t give a damn if you go Buh-bye and go to hell and are spanked by the Devil his own self!

I seriously doubt that Liberals chose John McCain for Republicans. Honestly.
Fighting shouldn’t be done by messing up the ballot box. Fighting should be done in the realm of ideas and not by using these kind of techniques. I think someone like Rush should be telling his listeners to try to convince Democrats to join them, rather than spending his time advocating messing up the Democratic primary.
mycowardice on March 25, 2008 at 7:57 PM
Now, now, is that any kind of down home Hotair welcome?
MB4 on March 25, 2008 at 8:04 PM
I sort of like the open primaries. You can make a conscious choice about which candidates are most important. I don’t really see how it bolsters one party over the other. The article wasn’t clear on the exact mechanics of how the process increased Republican participation.
I have also wondered about just how much crossover is really going on in this election.
Oldnuke on March 25, 2008 at 8:07 PM
The only better one I can imagine would involve him, a weed whacker, and plenty of salt.
MadisonConservative on March 25, 2008 at 8:11 PM
Romney should be the one prosecuted not Rush….ok go ahead and prosecute Rush too.
SaintOlaf on March 25, 2008 at 8:12 PM
You forgot the best part:
I think it is hard to tell if this is a hint towards the classic line of “Republicans stealing the 2000 and 2004 elections”, or justification of actions they would “normally” (i.e. never) consider beneath them.
Then again, “voting for who you want” equates to voter fraud and stealing the election if you vote Republican. Revotes in red states only!
MaelstromX on March 25, 2008 at 8:15 PM
Sounds kinky.

Does it make me a bad person if I was able to watch half the video before I fell on the flooring laughing?
Yea Dim’s, go after voter’s who voted for one of your candidates. Great plan. What’s next, going to the pound and kicking puppies with the video camera rolling?
Hog Wild on March 25, 2008 at 8:26 PM
Don’t politicians take an oath to uphold the Constitution? I don’t see many of them doing that, and I don’t see anyone offering to prosecute them for not following said oath!

I admire your principled behavior…
As for me, I’m sick and tired of my guys bringing a baseball bat to a gun fight. Liberals are very good at fighting dirty, while going to any lengths to push this county towards socialism. For anyone that studies history, they know that Liberalism-Socialism fails it’s people every time. Eventually, Liberals will have shrunk the middle class to the point where we simply don’t have the tax base to pay for the government handouts; the majority of our people will be addicted to government rather than being self reliant citizens. The American dream “be all you can be, reach for the stars, advance yourself and make the best life possible” will be reduced to a life of dependency on dynamics that include far to many things coming from government rather than a result of one’s own hard work and quest for personal achievement. There will be the elite, and the rest of us. We had better learn how to fight fire with fire, or our principled behavior will be lost in the ashes of history in 100 years or less.
Much to say about family values and spiritual principles (taking the higher road). A topic for another thread.
Keemo on March 25, 2008 at 8:29 PM
You know, while I love this, chaos I mean, and I did cross over to vote for the Hildabeast here in Texas. I can’t help but wonder how much more fuel this throws on the “Freedom Doctrine” fire.
conservnut on March 25, 2008 at 8:30 PM
If you listen for it in this clip, you can hear the echo in the studio…it’s like they’re just about to turn off the lights forever but they wanted to get one last ineffectual rant in.
James on March 25, 2008 at 8:45 PM
Doesn’t matter conservnut… If our government tries to take down talk radio, Americans will take to the streets by the millions. Ugly will not describe what will happen if politicians attempt to kill “freedom of speech” no matter what window dressing they put on it.
Americans have just about had it with this crop of politicians (both sides); the level of corruption in DC is beyond description; the lack of progress being made by our law makers. Recently, politicians from both sides of the political spectrum had a chance to make a bold statement to the people regarding out of control pork spending; the message they sent to us is “f*** you people”… Rush Limbaugh stands with us, all of us; he has been and continues to educate us on the realities of DC and how these dynamics relate to our countries history and creation. Many others in talk radio stand with us. The time may come when it will be necessary for us to stand with them!

I hate the open primaries because they got us John McCain. Having said that, in Indiana they simply ask you which ballot you want.
I registered as an independent back in 1973. In the last two elections I’ve tried to change my party affiliation and was told it was meaningless, so nobody was going o help me do it.
I took a poll yesterday and it was funny. I told them I was a “Strong conservative” and a republican, but I told them I was definitely going to vote for Hillary in the primary.

Oh man, I could only watch a few minutes of that whiner. What a silly alleged reporter. Where did they recruit him from? KATV Little Rock?
I know this site now has about 6 million visitors a month these days but it has gotten a little course around here lately.

If you get arrested for voting Democrat just plead temporary insanity.

I propose that Senate Democrats get together and draft a letter of condemnation of Rush’s actions and send it to him. Oh, and they all need to be sure and sign it.
labrat on March 25, 2008 at 10:46 PM
I’ll say it again….nitwit surrendercrats, bring it on.
At the same time, be prepared to answer why voting for any candidate in an open election is somehow more egregious and worthy of prosecution than teams of hack lawyers running around Floriduh disqualifying absentee ballots from deployed military members during the 2000 election.
91Veteran on March 25, 2008 at 10:58 PM
Dan Abrams damn near spit into the camera he was plssed…
You have an open primary, you get crossover.
I think the Dems are going to have to work triple time for the voterfraud thanks to Operation: Chaos..
DaveC on March 26, 2008 at 12:46 AM
Another thought..
What if.. some young DA went through and tried to prosecute someone regarding the ‘loyalty oath’..
couldn’t the person have ‘changed’ their mind between times?
anyway.. it’s all BS.. liberals with their panties in a wad trying to rattle their sabers instead are shaking car keys..

Sometimes, screwing up the other side is the most ethical thing one can do. This is one of those times. The greater good and all….
Pablo on March 26, 2008 at 1:21 AM
Oh, and here in RI, I went from unaffiliated to Democrat (simply by asking for a Democrat ballot), and then immediately disaffiliated again after turning the ballot in. Except that the disaffiliation doesn’t go into effect for 90 days. So, I’m a Democrat until June.
You see the sacrifices I make for the greater good?
Pablo on March 26, 2008 at 1:24 AM
msnbc…what a joke of a network. they get crazier and more pathetic every single day.
therightwinger on March 26, 2008 at 2:14 AM
BTW, I love the washed out picture of Rush in the screen cap. They even try to make him look like a terrorist. They fear him.
labrat on March 26, 2008 at 2:31 AM
Abrams is such a buffoon. “Two wrongs don’t make a right.” Oh, so I’m sure that means he reported on the Democratic crossover as well right? Laugh.
Livefreeordie on March 26, 2008 at 2:48 AM
There is a move afoot in Cleveland, Ohio to prosecute Republicans who voted in the Democrat’s primary in Ohio. The Cuyahoga County Board of Electons split 2 to 2 on whether to investigate/prosecute. The tie breaking vote is with Democrat Secretary of State Brunner.
Here is a link to the story:

hugh59 on March 26, 2008 at 6:31 AM
Funny, they are offended that people are voting for Hillary…reminds me of the Hollywood crowd that is so pro-gay, fights for their rights, but if you call one of them gay…they take you to court and sue you for defamation. I guess it isn’t okay to be gay afterall.
So what is it, are they proud of Hillary or not? I guess it’s not okay to have Hillary as the candidate.
right2bright on March 26, 2008 at 7:53 AM
and what if you, as a voter, decide that if your party ends up on the losing end that you would rather have one or the other dems in the Whitehouse? Can they prosecute you for voting for the lesser of two evils?
yakwill83 on March 26, 2008 at 7:55 AM
Dan Abrams for Douche bag of the year..btw
Dunno how they can prosecute for a person voting..
In an open primary.. or even if someone signs up as a democrat ‘for the day’ it’s a risk the DNC takes for being in a free society..
If the DNC can only change the freedom to vote..
I don’t think it’s illegal, some might say it’s shrewd or tactical…
DaveC on March 26, 2008 at 8:02 AM
in the worst case scenario, if a voter ended up in court for ‘voter fraud’, my defense would be that my side had their candidate already (McCain), I wanted my vote to still make a difference. To take part of the democratic process.
DaveC on March 26, 2008 at 8:10 AM

See how Rush once again comes to the rescue for MSNBC. Without him, I would not have watched that clip.
geckomon on March 26, 2008 at 9:51 AM
Operation Chaos is wonderful on so many levels.
1. It shows that what the left has been doing via the MSM-brainwashing.
2. The MSM cannot handle, nor do they understand, the concept of competition.
3. The truth hurts.
4. Hate is the only way the left can get their message/image of salvation into the ‘Real World’.
5. Votes at the DNC (Do Not Count) and the DNC (Does Not like Change).
MSGTAS on March 26, 2008 at 9:59 AM
every candident ask for crossover votes. dan abrams is a talking head. he can say what ever he wants to say. but to the point what did rush do.
he “rush” wants to keep both dem candidents in the race to explain the stances that they have taken.
the dems talk about “CHANGE”. CHANGE WHAT!
taxes?
clinton and obama want to raise our taxes.
national security?
obama and clinton so weak that it actually means a threat to the u.s. the list is too long.
what rush is trying to do is expose the left the same as ever.
dan abrams talks but does not think.

Wasn’t there a news story a little while ago about how operation chaos by Rush and others really has no effect on the cross-party primaries? I guess the liberal media really is split.
dssniagara on March 26, 2008 at 6:16 PM
dssniagara on March 26, 2008 at 6:16 PM
There was dozens of stories put out by the MSM, reporting on how talk radio (specifically calling out Rush Limbaugh) had lost it’s influence over the listening audience. This had much to do with the nomination of John McCain.
Now we have dozens of stories put out by the MSM, reporting on how Rush Limbaugh has influenced millions of Republicans to cross-over and vote for Hillary as part of a campaign called “operation chaos”. Other stories are surfacing reporting on how Sean Hannity has overplayed the Rev. Wright story, and has influenced millions of his listeners.
They are so confused… Talk radio is dead; wait a minute, talk radio is alive and as evil as ever…. It must be really hard to wake up every day a member of the MSM (which has one foot in the coffin) and also be Liberal. OUCH….
Keemo on March 26, 2008 at 7:13 PM
The Democrats have being doing this since I can remember and I’m 63. I don’t like this small abuse of our system by members of either party but changing party affiliation is a freedom. So as with most freedoms we enjoy, we have to be tolerant and take the good with the bad if we are to remain free. Loyalty oaths were struck down in the past as unconstitutional, so I am amazed that they still exist in this context.
amr on March 27, 2008 at 1:40 PM
Hey Dan, why don’t we just throw out the Constitution with it’s guarantee of the individual’s right to not have to reveal how they voted. Remember, the “secret” ballot.
Dan, you should instead direct your indignation at states that permit open primaries or even don’t require people to be residents of the state when voting in primary elections. I believe New Hampshire allows people to come to the state and vote based on the possibility that you might be moving there in the near future. Where was your indignation then, Dan?
