A Republican President ordered the overthrow of their decades-long dictator. A Republican President stood his ground and insisted on them being free. The Republican Party lost too much political capital to count in order to make sure they don’t end up dead in ethnic cleansing. The only Presidential candidate willing to stand by and make sure they become secure, stabilized, and stay free is a Republican. A significant chunk of the U.S. Armed Forces are Republican.

Their response? Let’s vote Democrat in ‘08!

Does anyone else see the problem here? I'm not sure they truly know what it takes to be free. Of course, it could be worse. The Iraqi politicians could take a month long recess right when political progress must be made.

mccain needs to very clearly and audibly make a direct statement to the iraqi people telling them that he will not abandon them to chaos and showing that both hillary and obama will. he needs to do this soon and keep doing it, hammering on it until people are sick of hearing it.

he must make clear the consequences of the democrats' intentions.

he should start with a speech and also make sure to drive the point home repeatedly, especially during the debates later this year.

Hey Allah/Ed see if Mermri will translate what they said for you. Compare, contrast, uncover scandal.

I second this request. If it seems that they "mis-translated" one, then they may have mis-translated more.

Y'know, it's funny how they complain about the Republicans, claiming democrats would be better in power (for them, and, I guess, by extension, the world), when democratic candidates have made it clear that Iraq doesn't mean crap to them. Both Hillary and Obama have repeated the mantra of 'get America out of Iraq' and 'move the forces to Afghanistan'. That's going to help prevent destabilization in that messed-up country? And just how much did the democrats do for Iraq, when Sodomy Insane was in power? I think Clinton1 bombed them, once, or twice. Yeah, that really beefed-up the bulwark between Iran and Iraq. At Hot Air, we've seen schools built for these asinine ingrates, clinics and hospitals built, the training of their forces, etc. Obama would eliminate all that, pretty quickly, and gladly leave them to the mercy of Iran.

They lost me on the "Obama has the experience" and "a woman in America should have her chance to be president" coming from a muslim man.

They like those two candidates because they view them as weak. The only people in that part of the world looking to do the U.S. any favors is Kuwait and Isreal.

This is as staged as an Obama fainting rally!

Come on, people!! A 20-year-old guy saying he remembers the time of Bush Sr.? A 50-year-old thug...er, student sitting in the back making sure all the ladies wear veils and all the students mouth the proper talking points?

Kyra: They all (giggle) want change (giggle)!

This seems to be a growing phenomonen. Don’t take responsibility for your own citizens and country, just blame the U.S. for your miserable existence and pump the U.S. funded U.N. for more dollars so you can sit on your arse doing nothing for yourselves and keep on complaining.

Indeed.

Eleanor Roosevelt said, "Nobody can make you feel inadequate without your permission."

It's a sign of idiocy, and of yet strength, that the U.S. ignore this...

So let me get this straight... Even 5 years after Saddam was ousted from power and the Iraqi government is far from unified? Is that the measure for success?

We're 230 odd years on from declaring independence from the Brits, and as far as I can tell, our government is also far from unified. That must make us a failure as well.

Of course, I'm sure the Libs would agree...

The last part was interesting to me too, but for another reason. I found it interesting that the young lady at the end says she doesn't believe Iraq is ready for democracy, yet says that Iraqis are unified. She doesn't understand where the divisions in her society are coming from and conveys that there is no animosity between religious sects. I think she needs to take more than political science and it's sad if this is what Iraq will produce as political leaders. They only repeat the International Press' take on things: everything wrong in that country is because of the U.S. not Iraqis themselves or their religious intolerances, that a Democrat is better than a Republican, the U.S. needs to get the hell out of dodge, but even if they do it'll STILL be the U.S.'s fault if things go to hell in a hand basket; and best yet, EVERYTHING is the U.S.'s fault.

And yet on the same day, when the Olympic flame was lighted, we are reminded by the same wire services that a boycott of the games would be “meddling with China’s domestic affairs.”

Indeed. How sad that the entire free world isn't standing up against China. What a perfect opportunity the year of the olympics provides. Yes...ping pong balls...Regards Niko,

Funny how the MSM seems to lose so much of this stuff in translation.

Teddy on March 24, 2008 at 4:44 PM

About a yeah ago a local channel here was translating a spanish speaker about illegal immigration/day laborers, etc. The guy clearly said "Gringos" but somehow that didn't make it through.

Yup. Plain as day.

I don't speak the language, but it's kinda hard to miss a mention of Bush or Clinton in the middle of all that.

CNN evidently 'no likey' what their translator told em' though, so they told us what they wanted the man say to keep their DNC buds happy.

God the MSM makes me sick! Pravda had nothing on them in its
heyday!

I think it's interesting that the media, and so many of the Iraqis they interview, speak of "unity" as prerequisite for democracy. It's not; we don't have unity here on many issues, and will likely not ever have it, but only the lunatic fringe would claim that we do not live in a democratic society. The only unity that is really required in a democracy is a common respect for the process, whatever the outcome of an election may be, and a commitment to refrain from violence when one's wishes are not realized via the electoral process. Since the last national elections in Iraq, we have had little hard evidence to go on when trying to determine whether or not democracy has taken hold there. The current Iraqi government is still largely mired in the conflicts of 2005, and we will have to wait until the next national elections to find out how people have responded to the past few years of governance.
