Hosting company pulls the plug on Geert Wilders’s anti-Islam movie?

posted at 5:57 pm on March 22, 2008 by Allahpundit

Tomorrow’s the big day — or rather, today is, if plans proceed to post the movie online at midnight (European time, I’m assuming). I’ve been monitoring the official website since this morning and until the past hour it looked like this. Click to enlarge:

fitna002.jpg

That’s from the British website, which is still up and running as I write this. The American page looked exactly the same except for “Coming Soon” in place of the date. Now it looks like this. Click again to enlarge:

fitna.jpg

Here’s Network Solutions’s terms of use. Is paragraph 7 the operative one, do you think — or is it paragraph 10? If the latter, why on earth did they agree to host the site in the first place? Have they missed the global uproar over the movie during the past two months?

And why are they bouncing it before the film’s even gone online? As I say, the only thing on the site right now is that Koran image and the title information. Where’s the terms of use violation? Or are they being DOS’d already?

I’m stepping out for a bit but keep your eye on the site. Exit question: Where does it end?

Update: Please do read that Wash Times article and reflect on the fact that a movie of such immense public interest as to have drawn comments from heads of state and NATO officials before it’s even been released is struggling at this moment to find a single western media outlet, of any sort, to distribute it. Wilders’s point has already been proved, hasn’t it?

Happy Easter to all.

Look at the muslim ads bracketing the ‘hoax revealing’. Also, look at the writing style. It doesn’t appear to me to be the way a legislative leader would write. It looks to me more like a lot of the comments I see from muslim supporters on youtube and other sites. Maybe this is just a hoax, but it still smells fishy to me.

Geert, you are one magnificent bastid!!! Point made in spades.. Not only is it prohibitive to display any manner of speech of an anti-Islamic nature, truthful or not, it is now prohibitive to have thoughts of doing so…It is truly disheartening to see such a large segment of the word’s population so cowed by a 6th century camel dung society.

I tried to post a Whois report on the phony website earlier, but it was rejected. Don’t know why. Maybe AP uses a robot that misinterpreted something in the report. Anyway, here’s what it says about the registrant.

Sooner or later, the enemy goes too far, the liberal so-called “leaders” are overruled, and we have Western “uncivilization”.

He’s said this all along. It would appear he was right.

fourstringfuror on March 23, 2008 at 4:40 PM

Re Fitna UK site – a practical joke? The big question is is Wilders behind it? Is there no Fitna movie at all? If Wilders is behind it it is a masterstroke. The US provider suspended a site for a film that never existed and so the point is proven. The fear of Islam is now beyond reason.

Yes, but only to those who are not afraid to open their eyes and face reality.

Note the content of one of the Network Solutions ads in the sidebar: “Now that I know my web site is going to stay up….” Heh.

This surpasses belief. According to EuropeNews, Network Solutions is the host for Hezbollah, in testimony of which, EuropeNews links to the whois output for hizbollah.org. That’s public information, so I’m reproducing it here.

I don’t fully understand how to interpret whois output, but plainly Network Solutions’ name is all over it, and the “Tech” information does seem to show that Network Solutions is the host of Hezbollah’s site, not merely the registrar of the URL. In that case, if Geert Wilders wanted to be treated well by Network Solutions, he should have founded a terrorist organization, not just a political party.

Remember kids: When you want fawning media attention for being a nuanced and edgy intellectual champion of free speech and dissent, you must only slander the Catholics as the root of all evil. In so doing, you’ll be showered with money, get your own TV show on Viacom’s Comedy Central, a book deal through Simon & Schuster, and promotional considerations on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Marketplace.

However, do not extend your mass media religious slanders to Islam. This is because the followers of the prophet Mohammed are part of a protected minority–there’s only 1 billion of them in a world of 6 billion–who are a thoughful, educated people that have improved the world by introducing the concept of the number zero and rhyming poetry.

Oh, and claiming Islam is the root of all evil in a mass media setting will get your fat ass killed…

Good thing Lewis Black went after the Catholic soft target rather than doing something intellectually barren like criticize Islam.

Soon, the short film Fitna on the Internet to see, at least for April 1 and no, it’s not April 1st hoax.”

Kralizec,

I don’t fully understand how to interpret whois output, but plainly Network Solutions’ name is all over it, and the “Tech” information does seem to show that Network Solutions is the host of Hezbollah’s site, not merely the registrar of the URL. In that case, if Geert Wilders wanted to be treated well by Network Solutions, he should have founded a terrorist organization, not just a political party.

The domain was registered privately, which means that the registrar or another company registers their domain and forwards access to the original party. It’s not unusual, and it’s actually a good practice nowadays, as whois data is public. But you’re right, network solutions is the current host, the DNS record confirms that.

This is very troubling news that a registrar as big as NS would pull a site over this matter. It’s begun folks, so buckle up!

Here’s an idea: why doesn’t Hotair host Fitna? You’ve served other videos in the past.

uptight on March 24, 2008 at 12:45 AM

So a paradox is created; Do we keep the Republicans in power so these enemies know not to F… with us

Haha.

1. Define “enemies.” Who/what in your mind is the enemy?

2. What should be done about it?

I work at the company that hosts HotAir/Michelle Malkin. Given the potential traffic the Fitna movie site could generate (both wanted and maliciuous) the Fitna site would need its own dedicated hardware separate from HA/MM as well as DDoS mitigation protection. We have hosted many significant traffic events, so while it is possible, it’s not cheap. INHO, I do NOT recommend putting the Fitna site on the HotAir/MM config, unless you want all of them to crash if the Fitna gets really busy. We don’t want to break HA/MM’s budget hosting budget!

ok im confused its no where near april 1st , I havent had my morning coffee yet so i will just ask is this a joke or not a joke a hack or no a hack wtf and why don’t they just bypass the whole web server and torrent it and let the people pass the movie around .

Mojack420 on March 24, 2008 at 12:30 PM

From Stop The ACLU: “And even faced with evidence of the actions by extremists, YouTube is folding anyway.”
Yep. This is part of the tactic that will win the war against the US and the West, without firing a shot. Some people would rather live in fear than risk dying, with honor.

Christine on March 24, 2008 at 4:23 PM

So there’s no other web host on the planet that’ll host this film?

I don’t think enough emphasis can be put on the circumstance that General Atlantic owns Network Solutions. If General Atlantic put pressure on Network Solutions to provide services to the terrorist muslims at Hezbollah or to take down Geert Wilder’s site, then we’ll be foolish to let Network Solutions become corpus vile for General Atlantic.
