docdave, you've hit the nail on the head! They want to tax, spend and regulate us back to the Stone Age so we can rediscover our lost knowledge. Brilliant!

Neither does anything you or anybody else has posted. You want to know about the causes of climate change? Look up in the sky and see that little bright globe.

That frozen tree makes me kinda homesick.

One thing about the whole "Global Warming" hysteria that I can't quite figure out... What exactly is the monster under the bed?

1. More malaria due to an expanded tropical zone? That's bogus because one of the biggest outbreaks ever was in Siberia. And, as anyone who has been to MN would know, mosquitoes are the State Bird. How much worse could it actually get?

2. Major loss of polar bears? So... more ice is good for polar bears and less ice is bad? Hmmmm... not buying that one.

3. Major coastal flooding? If that happened it would be a big deal. In order for this to happen it would require a massive increase in ocean temperature for a very long period of time. Long as in centuries.

Number 3 would be the worst of all. Especially for Babs. Doesn't she have some sort of ocean front palace here in SoCal? No wonder she's so worried about it.

But, seriously, let's look at that last one a little closer. Those along the coast would be negatively affected, but those who live further inland might one day find that they are the proud owners of freshly made beach front property. Not to mention, increased temperatures on that scale would open up vast new territories of land currently under ice.

New areas for living, farming, mining, etc. One of the problems with the Canadian tar sands is that they are so inhospitable and remote that it's hard for people to work there. A bunch of global warming would have so many people wanting to move there they could squeeze oil out of the sand for a hobby and still do well.

Conversely, what would happen if it gets colder rather than warmer? Far more people die each year from cold than from heat. What would all those veggie eaters do when they have to ration out the lettuce? Our farmable land area would converge on the tropical zones. Wouldn't we then have to cut down all the rain forests in order to plant corn so we can keep making ethanol? Oh, and for food too.

Will the windmills work when they are covered in ice? What about all the power we get from hydroelectric dams? I guess we could celebrate the return of the glaciers. At least until they grind our homes into kindling. But at least the polar bears will be happy.

I guess I could just sum up by saying that if I actually had the ability to choose between a world warmer or colder than we currently have, I'd go with warmer every time.

But, since we have nothing to do with the climate, it's all academic anyway.

Here on a hilltop in central New Hampshire I have measured over 13 and a half feet of global warming since December 1, 2007. Luckily I have a former Corps of Engineers guy living across the road with a payloader, who has been graciously "shoveling" my driveway. I now have a 12 foot tall mountain of snow next to said driveway.

About a week ago I planted a Hawaii state flag at the summit in hopes it would provide some kahuna to melt the snow. It blew away today in a 50 mph wind gust, so I replaced it with one from the country of Nepal. That one seems to be staying put.

The oceans are cooling and the scientists find that puzzling. Why? What scientists? Getting the Jr Chemistry set when eight years old doesn't count on your degree. (Al)

freevillage on March 21, 2008 at 2:13 PM

So you are one of the few now that believe warming trends are caused by us humans? We are the ones that cause climate change?
You do realize that most of the scientists (climatologists) are now backing away from that idea (of man made global warming). Liberal die hards won't give it up, but the scientists have began to abandon the sinking global warming ship...
And now that we have found out the water is actually colder then reported, you are convinced of what? and on what evidence? Check the March 19, 5:43 Hot Air archives, rad and learn...

Some 3,000 scientific robots that are plying the ocean have sent home a puzzling message. These diving instruments suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years...

OMFG! Dude, you’ve like totally disproved teh global warming! Holy crap, if it hadn’t been for you, nobody would have thunk of the Ice Age. Liberals, you know, they are brain dead. Personally I expect thousands quitting their tenure-track positions beginning next Monday once they have heard this 100% bullet-proof argument!

Al Gore must die! Newton, I hope you’re a Tory. Or are you? Gravity, right? Wrong! How about balloons?!!!! Eat this!

Oh hey, heh, I see what you did there. Brilliant!

Nobody is disputing 'climate change'. The world has been going through climate changes since its beginning. The problem is that most people don't even realize that Earth has gone through no less than 7 ice ages, including one that froze the entire planet solid. But that's ok, keep believing Al Gore that we are to blame for rising temperatures. It's not like he has anything to gain for it. Why, he even buys carbon offsets to atone for his sins... from his OWN COMPANY. We should listen to him from those years of learning to be a climatologist! How about those melting polar caps on Mars? The Untied States of Amerikkka and George Bush are to blame!!! Blindly following do-gooders makes me feel good inside!

The program hopes to set benchmarks for determining the effects of global warming on Antarctica, researchers said.

Large sea spiders, jellyfish with 12-foot tentacles, huge sea snails and starfish the size of big food platters were found during a 50-day voyage, marine scientist Don Robertson said.

Cold temperatures, a small number of predators, high levels of oxygen in the sea water and even longevity could explain the size of some specimens, said Robertson, a scientist with NIWA.

Looking for global warming and end up with new species, and larger then normal because of cold temperatures and high level of oxygen.
Interesting, but not surprising...every time they look for warming, they find cooling.

I’ve been pointing out facts like this to everyone I hear talking about global warming. Record snow fall, a drop in ocean temperatures, etc. It’s just too bad that people who believe in the doomsday philosophy will only find a reason to justify it and continue destroying the economy. Here’s my big question: if radical changes in weather aren’t the norm on Earth, including massive warming periods, what caused the decline of a 2 mile thick sheet of ice covering North America and Northern Europe 12,000 years ago? Those hunter-gatherers and their damned CO2 emissions!

OMFG! Dude, you've like totally disproved teh global warming! Holy crap, if it hadn't been for you, nobody would have thunk of the Ice Age. Liberals, you know, they are brain dead. Personally I expect thousands quitting their tenure-track positions beginning next Monday once they have heard this 100% bullet-proof argument!

Al Gore must die! Newton, I hope you're a Tory. Or are you? Gravity, right? Wrong! How about balloons?!!!! Eat this!

That’s exactly what my 12 year old daughter asked her science teacher recently. He just gave her a cold stare.

My wife told me I need to tone it down a bit; says I’m turning our kid into a smartass.

Heh.

Now, her, I would vote for President someday. What an intelligent kid. Every time I come across some arrogant tree-hugging bleeding heart wussbag preaching about "Catastrophic Global Climate Change," I ask what the cavemen did to cause it to end the ice age. Answer? 99% of the time: (crickets. . .) or at best: uh??

Dood, are you simple? Throughout the hundreds of billions of years the Earth has existed, you don't think that the climate changed until man discovered industrialization a hundred years ago? Was the ecosystem stagnant all those years until we, with our super polluting habits, came along and destroyed it? And furthermore, do you really believe that if we caused that much damage in a hundred years to significantly alter the planets ecosystem that we're going to get rid of the problem by driving hybrids and buying CFL's? And is it likely in any way that we'll get the collective support of 300 some odd billion people on the planet (many of which don't even know what the idea of "Global Climate Change" means) to counter these apocalyptic transgressions of our recently deceased ancestors?

Bottom line: if you honestly believe in MANMADE global climate change - you are a MORON. Simple enough to understand? This hoax was created to prey on the naivety and paranoia of the average lemming; a group which you, coincidentally, are a card-carrying member of.

Congratulations - you've been had!

It's all cyclical. One thing is certain though, in the next coming months and years, it will get warm and then hot, very hot. The it will get warm again and then cold, very cold. Then it will get warm again, very warm and then hot. Then it will get warm, and then cold, very cold, and then....

Sorry Ed, I'll think about you poor scmucks this weekend while I am down here by Houston bar-b-queing and drinking a cold one in 75 degree weather. (Hey I have to brag now, in a month it will be hotter than hell itself down here and you guys will be bragging about your 75 degree weather)

Nice picture Ed. You have posted a few like these lately. But what does it prove? I have pictures of the fall colors in the mid Atlantic states coming 1 month later then usual this past fall. In Delaware some trees still had leaves on them a week before Christmas when they are usually gone by Thanksgiving. There is this item about NY city, Lack of January Snow Is a First in 75 Years. Philadelphia received less then 1 inch of snow this year while the average is 21. Your pictures and my facts don’t prove anything about climate change. This thread is just “red meat” for the base.
