Poll: 35% having doubts about Obama over Wright
posted at 3:28 pm on March 20, 2008 by Allahpundit
The news ain’t all bad for Team Barry. Clear majorities say the scandal’s had no effect and they don’t believe he shares Wright’s views (nor do I or most Republicans, for that matter).
Think that’ll help him with superdelegates expecting a close race with McCain this fall?

You should scroll through the crosstabs on this one, as there’s bombshells a-burstin’ on every page. This, in particular, threw me for a loop. I’ve been assuming that the base would revolt if the superdelegates dared to stiff the guy who won the most states and the most delegates. Maybe not. Exhibit A in Her Majesty’s case for why the rank and file would be more tolerant of a “selected, not elected” nominee than one might think:

That 17% is going to give them pause, but is that figure a response to the party taking anti-democratic measures or just a reflection of opposition to Hillary on the merits? Via PA WaterCooler, anecdotal evidence comes from the F&M poll of Pennsylvania. They’re screwed to the tune of a 20% “sore loser” flip no matter who wins:

Not encouraging enough? Back to Fox, then. Check out the numbers for independents in these two questions — and for Democrats in the second one. Either the “100 years in Iraq” scare tactic hasn’t taken effect yet or it’s a bust, because his national security numbers are solid:

Finally, for exit question purposes: What on earth do we make of this? 14% of Republicans, too?

Why? Because Wright uses the church bulletin to
shill for Hamas?

That 14% could be Ron Paul nuts mixed with conservatives that refuse to vote for Maverick.
Hening on March 20, 2008 at 3:39 PM
I don’t think the problem is so much whether or not he actually shares Wright’s views, it’s that, if his words and actions are any indication, he finds those views quite tolerable, even excuasable.
Having a wife who arguable does share those views doesn’t help much either. Nor does throwing Granny under the bus.

I always assumed Bryan was the screencap wizard, just because he was the designated video guy.
Apologies to Allahpundit. Your screencaps are indeed the best on the net.
As to the poll results: heh heh heh.

Yeah, I gotta admit I’ve got my doubts. Being a whitey and all.

I hope we see these numbers or better in October. Until then, this is merely entertainment.
HawaiiLwyr on March 20, 2008 at 3:47 PM
Unless there is data to support this, I’ll disagree on the Republican part. Obama’s main problem isn’t racism, it is socialism, and I suspect most fiscal conservatives are a bit queasy about now. Wright is selling it disguised as honest criticism of government policies, and uses the race angle to juice it up for the listener. Look back at Obama’s education and mentors. He’s Marxist through and through. So was his mother. The racial soft shoe is the hook to make the sale for class warfare/realignment, in major terms. I am taking a bit of liberty in assuming all Republicans oppose Marxism.

Is there a bunker somewhere that just stores thousands of those identical yellow pantsuits?
Chuck Schick on March 20, 2008 at 3:54 PM
Yeah. You know, the question to me isn’t so much if Obama share’s Wright’s views, but does he share his goals, which are available on the church website for all to see.
How can there be any doubt about that?
Typhoon on March 20, 2008 at 3:55 PM
If Obama has shown us anything it is that he is a craven political opportunist who would associate with an ignorance spewing hate monger to garner street cred in Southside Chicago. Other than that we have no idea what he believes. He supposedly converted to Christianity in Wright’s church adopting his Afrocentric version. Was that all part of his political calculation? Is he really a Christian? He is a political reptile with cold blood and instinctual calculation.
I think its time to dust off the Islamic Manchurian Candidate meme.
tommylotto on March 20, 2008 at 3:57 PM
I don’t. And don’t dust it off here.

How do you define share?
What are Wright’s views, and what are the views of the Trinity United Church of Christ? How is one different from the other? Does Otis Moss III not “share” Wright’s views?
Does Barack “share” a belief in Black Liberation Theology or not? If not, why does he belong to that particular church?
Barack has made a pretty speech, but he has not told us what he does and does not “share” with Wright. He needs to be asked about everything that defined that church, over and above Wright’s despicable sermons.

On a Fox poll 57% say they don’t think Obama shares Wright’s views. I wonder why so many are ready to believe this. Michelle Obama saying that the occasion of her husband’s primary victories were the first she was proud to be an American show that she may agree with Wright’s racist rants. Obama let his children sit under the hate whitey sermons as he did himself for 20 years. So who is Obama deceiving. Was he a phony to his fellow members at Trinity and did he nod his head and say “Amen” to fool Wright as he was bashing rich white people? Or is the Obama we see a carefully crafted persona designed to fool whitey into voting for him because in his heart he believes in and shares the racist diatribes and hate filled politics practiced by Wright?
Only God knows Obama’s heart and soul and the rest of us can only guess but the evidence indictes that you all would be naive to think He surely does not share Wright’s views.
bindare on March 20, 2008 at 4:04 PM
Obama’s supporters seem to be more supportive of Hillary than vice versa (it’s 19/20% for McCain either way, but the stay at home number is 13% for Hillary supporters vs. 3% for Obama supporters). Being such team players might end up biting them in the ass, as the Supers may be less worried about pissing them off. Especially since the stay at home people kill you down the ticket.
BuzzCrutcher on March 20, 2008 at 4:05 PM
He chose Wright as his spiritual advisor and attended his church and sermons for some 20 years. It wasn’t exactly the only church in town- why frequent that one if he disagreed with those views? Why the close association with Wright?
Even if Obama doesn’t believe that the US created the AIDS virus to kill blacks and other extreme nonsense, I can’t see someone who doesn’t share some of the same ethnocentric views sticking around Wright for so long and so closely.
Hollowpoint on March 20, 2008 at 4:08 PM
Well-said, except that Marxism does not make me queasy merely because of its anti-capitalist tenets. It’s also political-correctness, the worship of multiculturalism over assimilation, identity politics, the Orwellian use of words, the hatred of our cultural and religious roots, Anti-Americanism, liberal fascism, Stalinism, and so forth.
Buy Danish on March 20, 2008 at 4:09 PM
Can we now say that Obama will just about say and do anything to get elected?
stillaneocon on March 20, 2008 at 4:09 PM
He’s a liberal Democrat. That’s pretty much a given.
Hollowpoint on March 20, 2008 at 4:12 PM
AP,
Obama’s approach (wait around for government intervention and continued white guilt) will only perpetuate old style racial politics.
He may have done a good job describing various points of view but does nothing to move us forward… only backwards or standing still…
…his suggestions about the way forward only validate Wright’s views that somebody owes us, America owes us, and the US government has to fix it…
…I think in many ways, therefore, he really does share some core views of Wright and his church (apart from AIDS conspiracies).
stillaneocon on March 20, 2008 at 4:14 PM
Allah,
Take a closer look at the PA Watercooler numbers:
23% of BO supporters would vote for McCain or sit on their hands;
32% of Hillary! Supporters – almost a full third – would do the same.
Granted, small sample sizes – likely accurate +/- 5% – but, Dude.
Rush’s internicene warfare strategy has worked.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm……… trying to keep an open mind, or wondering who will be left standing after the Summer conventions?
Seven Percent Solution on March 20, 2008 at 4:30 PM
Only 35%?!?
What the hell is wrong with the other 65%? Wright is a racist, America bashing, anti-Semite, hate monger and Obama is in bed with him.
Mojave Mark on March 20, 2008 at 4:44 PM
I’ll take a guess – those 14% are conservatives who have become libertarian and are so disenchanted with the GOP that they can’t support it any longer. However, they still feel compelled to waste their time waiting in line to cast a ballot for symbolic significance, and if you’re going to vote for someone who can’t win, might as well be Nader.
Personally, I won’t be voting in November. According to many of my peers, that means I have no legitimate right to criticize the outcome of the election. Fair enough, just try and stop me. :)
Enrique on March 20, 2008 at 4:47 PM
It is such a long way off to the elections…but one thing is certain, the Dems are snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
right2bright on March 20, 2008 at 4:58 PM
Exit question, question: 14 + 79 + 8 = 101?
I mean, I know it’s not much, but still, when did the GOP manage to get to 101%?
Voidseeker on March 20, 2008 at 5:05 PM
My question: Is any mainstream politician ever going into a “black church” again?
When this rhetoric was kept inside select liberal circles, it could be managed. The big loser politically is “the black community.” Nobody wants to hear, or deal with, this stuff at a national level in this day and age.
For the past 25 years, millions of white Americans have had to undergo millions of hours of diversity training to help them understand how inherently racist they are and how inherently virtuous every non-white person is.
I can thank Pastor Wright for at least bringing some much-needed clarity to things.

Seriously. I kept thinking there was something wrong with me since I didn’t have the urge to put on a ghost costume or burn crosses on lawns.

Congratulations, “most Republicans!!”
In a perfect world, that is if Hussein wasn’t running for president, we probably would’ve ignored his wife’s hateful comments about America, Hussein’s hateful attitude towards America and his 20-year friend/like uncle/pastor’s hateful sermons about America.
But we are not in a perfect world and Hussein is running for President. So, let’s just talk about him, his wife and his pastor, and let’s pretend everything is hunky dory.
Let’s just say that he’s as innocent as a child. He has no connections and was not influenced at all with his pastor/uncle/friend of 20 years, that he doesn’t share his wife’s views about America.
Yeah, let’s say everything is good and calm on the Hussein front.
It feels good, doesn’t it?

Rasmussen (Zoby on Hannity said his number so the same)
National Poll:
McCain 51%
Clinton 41%
McCain 49%
Obama 42%
Impact of Pastor Wright and THE SPEECH on Election 2008

And Hillary had her poll numbers up in the roof not long ago, just before the preliminaries.

Do not believe polls.

re: Republicans for Nader
Maybe people are giving funny info to the pollsters?
Maybe they thought crossover voting for Hillary worked so well, and Ralph Nader is a big threat to the Democrats, so…
daryl_herbert on March 20, 2008 at 7:37 PM
My mind was made up a year ago when this story came, and his recent behavior, defensive posture of a racist “reverend”, and denunciation of his “typical white” grammy serve only to strengthen my stance.
madmonkphotog on March 20, 2008 at 9:03 PM
I guess you didn’t get my hyperbole. The point was that we really do not know Obama’s true core philosophy, because he is a political opportunist. He might very well be a radical black power type, like his co-religionists. He says he is not, but he was a member of that church and actions speak loader than words. It would not be the first time that a politician hid his true feelings. That is why they call it “political correctness.”
tommylotto on March 20, 2008 at 9:44 PM
The internals of this Fox poll also show a highly skewed sample: 43% Democrat, 30% Republican, 27% Independent.
The Fox poll shows that McCain holds the Republican base (82%) better than Clinton (75%) or Obama (70%) holds the Democrat base, and McCain wins Independent voters 47-31 against Clinton and 45-37 against Obama.
Most of the Rasmussen polls show that the electorate is about 37% Democrat and 31% Republican. If the internals of the Fox poll (fractions of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents voting for each candidate) are applied to a more balanced sample of 37%D, 31% R, and 32% I, McCain would lead Clinton by 46-42, and Obama by 46-41.
Once we sift through internals and correct for the skewed sample, this poll looks good for McCain, regardless of his opponent. It also looks good for Mark Twain: lies, d@mned lies, and statistics.

I swear is that a sh!t eating Cheshire cat grin on the face of Hitlery?
Hitlery should be indebted to the person or persons who uncovered or exposed the connection between Obama and Wrong Rev Wright. OH !!!that’s right, that would be Hot Air, Rush and others who saw the lies that Obama claimed he was not a radical race baiter but claims the wrong Rev. Wright was his mentor
I guess, Obama did not attend that class, like ‘Wild Bill’ who “did not have sex with that lady” or “did not inhale”. Let’s just call a spade a spade as Obama has demanded.
